Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson let down his city and the entire Labour movement on Saturday by his friendly welcome to Theresa May when she imposed herself on the city for Armed Forces Day.
Anderson was photographed laughing and joking with a Prime Minister who gives lame ducks a bad name – while Liverpool’s residents made their feelings clear by booing the Tory ‘leader’ and shouting ‘shame on you’:
Anderson’s friendliness was a legitimisation of a PM who has no legitimacy, is ready to be toppled – and is far from certain to survive the next week, with crucial votes on her ridiculously sparse Queen’s Speech due on Wednesday and Thursday.
He would have been far better advised to have bounced her straight out of the hugely pro-Corbyn city – or at the very least to have distanced himself from her and ignored her attempts to ingratiate herself for the cameras, as his party leader did during last week’s ceremony for the opening of Parliament:

Anderson let down everyone – in his city and nationwide – who is eager to see the end of malignant Tory government. Every other Labour figure needs to learn the lesson and ostracise the zombie-PM until she is removed to make room for a leader and a party with an actual vision for the good of the country.
This is not the time to offer any kind straw to grasp to a drowning and humiliated PM who bears personal responsibility for many of this country’s ills, while her party carries the rest of the blame.
Anderson himself needs to ‘consider his position’ and make room for a city mayor who is more attuned to the vast numbers of people who are solidly behind Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership and vision.

As a Merseyside veteran I feel deeply insulted by both Anderson and May’s cynical and offensive opportunism. Anderson is a Tory in everything but name and like Cilla Black before him, a stain upon the proud history of this working class city.

After this meeting between two right wing traitors, I’ll be expecting Anderson’s impending fall from public life to be cushioned by a knighthood or – who knows – a peerage?

TM seems behaving like Queen like M. Thatcher had started behaving like Queen then she had gone. Conscious of style of dressing not like Angela Merkel who always the same top but different colours that shows that Merkel is more interested in Politics than dress(Image), down to the earth woman. May is other way round. She lost sense of being PM but acts like Queen. She really has to go sooner better for the Country although this morning (Sunday) David Davis said that TM is a good PM and should stay and he supports her. Is it joke? If he thinks so he has not ability for judgement hence no good for Brexit Secretary for sure. Everything is too sad.
I’m not sure what the premise is here.
Is it that if Mrs May (or any Conservative Prime Minister?) visits a town, city or region where the mayor is Labour, that mayor should either not extend a friendly welcome, or indeed extend an unfriendly welcome, just because they represent different political parties?
Whoever is PM, of whatever political colour, they are the PM, and should courtesy toward the position not be the default?
The same would apply if, for example, Mr Corbyn if he were PM, were to visit the West Midlands where Mr Street (C) is the mayor..
Fat joe hardly looks unabashed about it, does he? For all his bleating about central Govt causing all his mayoral headaches, he seems a bit too enthusiastic to be seen next to her, in my opinion.

Whether Mr Anderson is a “good guy” or a “bad guy” I was commenting on the tone of the article exemplified by this:

The question remains – is the premise of the article that a mayor should not extend a friendly welcome to a PM just because they belong to different parties, and that the majority of his town / city / region preferred the runner up in the election?

Let’s not forget that the people of the city weren’t even given a choice of if they even wanted a mayor or not. It was imposed on them.
Then there’s fatty’s association with Ged Fitzgerald…And guess what Fitzgerald was? None other than chief exec. of Rotherham during the child abuse scandal…That’s the type of person fatty surrounds himself with.
£130m plus, on a commonwealth games, with no guarantee of recouping even half of that, in an already impoverished city?

I think you may be confused. Mrs May is the PM; Mr Corbyn is the leader of the opposition. 13.7m / 12.9m votes. 318 / 262 seats.
