Delcy Rodriguez, Venezuela’s ‘interim president’ since the illegal US abduction of elected president Nicolás Maduro, is continuing her surrender of the country to Trump and US corporations. Rodriguez has appointed Oliver Blanco – a key player in restoring Venezuela’s diplomatic relations with apartheid Israel – as foreign minister. Family betrayal
Rodriguez’s father Jorge was tortured to death in 1976 by Venezuelan security forces working with the CIA against the revolutionary left. This family history led many to hope that Rodriguez would stand firm against Trump’s threats and US aggression when she took over from Maduro – but those hopes were immediately dashed. She quickly signed over Venezuela’s vast oil reserves to US corporations, handed the US effective control of Venezuela’s national budget and began the process of ‘normalising‘ relations with Israel.
Blanco’s appointment, moving up from deputy foreign minister, takes this capitulation a step further. His own social media history display a deep hatred for the Chávez legacy and politics and his alignment with US anti-socialist narratives:
His social media now appear to have been scrubbed, with no mention of Chávez or Chavismo – or of Trump, or Israel, or Gaza, or genocide.
Blanco’s first act, on his promotion, was to travel to the US to meet Trump’s far-right secretary of state Marco Rubio. The pair discussed Trump’s plan for a hand-over of power to the Venezuelan right, euphemistically termed “stabilization” and “political reconciliation” and changing Venezuela’s “unriggable“, world-class electoral processes to allow the pro-US fascist right to ‘win’ despite mass popular support in Venezuela for left-wing ‘Chavismo’. Blanco called this “build[ing] spaces of understanding”.
The Blanco appointment and Venezuela’s ongoing destruction as a socialist republic that prioritises the needs of its people underlines again why Lula da Silva’s triumph over US- and Israel-backed Flavio Bolsonaro in Brazil last week was so crucial in halting the US’s take-over of south and central America.

Maybe she is justifying herself by thinking that the CIA would kill her too if she doesn’t capitulate, believing that better her than another. Or most likely, since I don’t believe she has children, she is an opportunist ready to shit all over her father’s legacy in exchange for a large bank account.
