Lithuania’s defence minister has confirmed that Ukraine is flying its drones via NATO nations’ airspace to attack the Russian city of St Petersburg, to prevent Russia destroying them en route. This act – and NATO nations allowing it – draws NATO directly into war with Russia and into attacks targeting Russian civilians.
Robertas Kaunas’s admission comes after a Ukrainian drone crashed in Lithuania en route to Russia. Kaunas said that the drone, which had been tracked by Lithuania’s military radar as it approached:
preliminarily entered Lithuanian airspace from Poland.
The crashed drone and Ukraine’s use of NATO territory to launch the attack has been ignored by UK ‘mainstream’ media.
Reckless endangerment
Mapping of the drones’ flight path during the St Petersburg attack shows that it also crossed Latvian territory, as well as Poland and Lithuania. All three are members of NATO.
As well as targeting oil refineries and communications infrastructure, the Ukrainian drone assault hit twelve civilian apartment buildings and several houses. The manufacturing origin of the drones has not been disclosed, but Ukraine has used UK-made drones to kill civilians in Moscow in similar attacks.
These acts and permissions are a direct provocation and an act of war on Russia, despite recent admissions by UK intelligence organisations that Russia poses no imminent threat. Norwegian political scientist Glenn Diesen wondered rhetorically whether any retaliation by Russia would still be condemned as ‘unprovoked’:
Ukraine has previously bombed its own civilians and blamed the attack on Russia. It also tried to blame Russia for the two Polish farmers killed by a Ukrainian missile – an attempt so ridiculous even a top NATO diplomat couldn’t resist telling Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop lying. UK media remained silent on those incidents, too.
The reckless, dangerous collusion in attacks on a Russian city came just three days after NATO secretary general Mark Rutte admitted that Russia poses “no imminent threat against NATO territory”:
But the UK politico-media establishment continues to lie to ‘manufacture consent’ for an entirely avoidable, pointless war that is already consuming 27,000 Ukrainian troops a month.
