Labour councillor accused of inciting violence against far-right acquitted

Jury takes only half an hour to decide Ricky Jones not guilty – fears of neo-nazi riots

Cllr Ricky Jones at the anti-fascist counter-demo.

Labour councillor Ricky Jones, accused of calling for the killing of “Nazi fascists” has been found not guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court of encouraging violent disorder. Jones called far-right demonstrators “disgusting Nazi fascists” and said “we need to get rid of them all” during a speech at an anti-fascist rally in Walthamstow on 7 August last year. The rally had been called in opposition to a racist anti-refugee demo outside Waltham Forest Immigration Bureau. Jones told the court he had spoken “in the heat of the moment”.

The jury deliberated for only half an hour before deciding to acquit. Messages among far-right activists have called for riots in response.

    1. Let’s just hope this does not involve terrorising people with “illegal” placards and signs.
