Video: Israel assassinates Gaza journalists Anas al-Sharif, Mohammad Qariqa and colleagues

Award-winning Sharif leaves behind last words; footage shows horrific aftermath of bombing of journalists’ tent

Israel has slaughtered well-known Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif, his colleague Mohammad Qariqa and three al-Jazeera colleagues in yet another targeted assassination of journalists as the genocidal coloniser seeks to blind the world to its crimes in Gaza. The pair were the last surviving al-Jazeera Arabic journalists surviving in the besieged enclave. The occupation military had directly threatened al-Sharif less than a week before his murder.

Video from the scene (CONTENT WARNING!) shows the immediate aftermath of the murderous strike:

In a short clip published to X just before his murder, al-Sharif showed the occupation’s bombing raid that had already gone on uninterrupted for more than two hours:

Translation: Nonstop bombing… For the past two hours, the Israeli aggression on Gaza City has intensified.

Al Jazeera English correspondent Hani Mahmoud was just one block away when the strike hit. He said reporting on Anas’s death was the hardest thing he has had to do in the 22 months of Israel’s genocide.

Al-Sharif, who won Amnesty’s ‘Human Rights Defender’ award last December and found out live on air that members of his family had been murdered in an Israeli bombing, left behind a heart-rending message with his friends to be released in the event of his murder:

This is my last will and testament, my final message.

If these words of mine reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice.

First, peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.

God knows that I have exerted all my effort and strength to be a support and voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and neighborhoods of Jabalia refugee camp. My hope was that God would prolong my life so that I could return with my family and loved ones to our original hometown of occupied Ashkelon (al-Majdal). But God’s will was supreme, and His judgment is final. I have lived the pain in all its details, and I have tasted the pain and loss repeatedly. Despite this, I have never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification. May God be a witness against those who remained silent and accepted our killing, and against those who held our breath and whose hearts were not moved by the remains of our children and women, and who failed to stop the massacre our people have been subjected to for more than a year and a half.

I entrust Palestine to you, the jewel in the crown of Muslims and the heartbeat of every free person in this world.

I entrust its people and its young, oppressed children, who were not given the time to dream and live in safety and peace.

Their pure bodies were crushed by thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn to pieces, and their remains scattered on the walls.

I advise you not to be silenced by restrictions, nor to be paralyzed by borders. Be bridges toward the liberation of the country and its people, so that the sun of dignity and freedom may shine upon our usurped homeland.

I entrust my family to you.

I entrust you with the apple of my eye, my beloved daughter Sham, whom I have not yet seen grow up as I dreamed.

I entrust you with my dear son Salah, for whom I hoped to be a support and companion until he grows strong, so that he may bear my burdens and complete his mission.

I entrust you with my beloved mother, whose prayers have blessed me and enabled me to reach this point. Her prayers have been my fortress and my light.

I pray to God to strengthen her heart and reward her abundantly on my behalf.

I also commend to you my lifelong companion, my beloved wife, Umm Salah Bayan. The war separated us for many long days and months, but she remained faithful to her covenant, steadfast like an unbending olive trunk, patient and content. She carried the trust in my absence with all strength and faith.

I commend you to rally around her and support her after God Almighty.

If I die, I will die steadfast in my principles. I call God to witness that I am content with His judgment, faithful to the meeting with Him, and certain that what is with God is better and more lasting.

O God, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light illuminating the path to freedom for my people and my family.

Forgive me if I have fallen short, and pray for mercy for me, for I have fulfilled my covenant, and I have neither changed nor altered.

Do not forget Gaza…

And do not forget me in your prayers for forgiveness and acceptance.

Israel has murdered more than three hundred Palestinian journalists in Gaza, often along with their families, in a campaign clearly intended to silence the news of its genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Keir Starmer and his government have done nothing to protect them or punish their killers. Less than nothing: the UK continues to directly assist in the terror state’s evil in Gaza.

  1. “Israel assassinates murders Gaza journalists Anas al-Sharif, Mohammad Qariqa and colleagues

    1. And your dear leaders’ reaction?

Silence…until he deigns to resort to his usual handwringing ‘rebuke’, sounding as if he was scolding a naughty toddler.

Go on…GTF with your feigned concern.

      1. Spot on, Toffee.

This faux concern over the crimes of the spear is meaningless without a critique of those holding and wielding the spear.

However, to do so would undermine the unstinting blind support Billy boy has given to this bunch of degenerates. Hence, the silence and selective application of principles inherent in this pathetic and vile virtue signalling.

  2. So there it is, Israel has a shoot to kill policy towards investigative journalists in the region who are critical of their actions.
Will Western journalists who are supposed to hold truth to power continue to hold their breath & remain silent to please their billionaire owners?
The history books on Gaza will forever find them invisible.
Shame on Israel, shame on Western journalists.

    1. I heartily agree with your comment. Whilst brave, and honest, journalists are assassinated in Gaza, our’s back the perpetrators wholeheartedly and sickeningly. They are all complicit, unless they are among the tiny number calling it out. Many of us have had the guts in our own jobs to stand up for what is right, under bad management. Many old folk knowingly took the risk of jail to object to our Israel-sycophantic government. Never forget, never forgive!
