Israel lobby setting scene for ‘Iranian’ attacks, raising fears of ‘false flag’ even higher

After former Israeli negotiator warned false flag attacks are likely, US media touting ‘Iranian sleeper cells’ and US sending decrepit aircraft carrier toward Iran

Last week, former Israeli negotiator Daniel Levi told Al Jazeera that the world needs to be “on the lookout for false flag operations” in which Israel attacks US interests and pretends Iran was the perpetrator. At that time, Levi expected the false flag incident to take place as an excuse for the US to attack Iran directly – an attack that has already started, but failed to achieve its objective.

But the matter is not yet closed. Trump is now claiming to have agreed a (12-hour!) ceasefire between Iran and Israel – a claim that looks tactical rather than real – but even if it is not more hot air and misdirection from Trump like the supposed ceasefire in Gaza, the Israeli regime will certainly not settle for a truce that obstructs its ‘Greater Israel’ territorial ambitions.

And, right on cue, US pro-Israel media have begun warning of supposed ‘Iran sleeper cells’ in the US poised to commit come atrocity:

At the same time, US media and pro-Israel so-called ‘think tanks’ have begun pushing a harmonised line that Iran may attack a US ship – and the US is sailing the USS Nimitz, an out of date aircraft carrier that is scheduled to be decommissioned and demolished next year, toward Iran.

Israel has a long history of such false-flags to try to achieve political and strategic aims, from the ‘Lavon affair‘ of the 1950 in which it bombed Jewish buildings in Egypt and tried to blame it on Muslim groups, to its air attack on the USS Liberty in 1967 to try to provoke the US into attacking Egypt, to the 1994 bombings in London blamed on Palestinian activists. The US military-industrial complex is also just as likely to perpetrate a false flag to achieve its war aims and profit goals, perhaps even more so if Trump actually did make peace with Iran.

If and when it happens, the US and UK establishment media will push the pro-war narrative even more eagerly than they are doing now, particularly with Starmer now pushing to declare anti-genocide activism to be terrorism and still waging war on protest and journalism that expose Israel’s crimes and support Palestinian human rights and liberation.
