53 year old white male arrested over Liverpool ramming attack

An unnamed 53-year-old white British male has been arrested by Merseyside Police in connection with the ramming attack that injured an unknown number of people on Water Street in Liverpool at around 6pm this evening. The man was pulled from the car by bystanders as he paused after driving into several groups of people celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League win. Far-right trolls had already begun to claim the driver was a Muslim, in order to incite racism and hate.

Police have not released details of his name or any motivation yet. A clip from the scene appears to show people remonstrating with the man as he tried to barge his vehicle through before he then drives off into the crowd:

A local restaurant is being used as an emergency medical hub amid reports of significant casualty numbers and emergency status declared at local hospitals.

  1. Very clever, the gobshite that chases the car and launches something at it.

The driver now has the ‘excuse’ of fleeing for his safety.

    1. Exactly toffee. They smashed his back window and were banging on the sides etc. Police removed the road cordons after the bus parade passed allowing cars through. Big fucking stupid mistake. There were thousands still there.

      1. Yep. Old bill getting praised for being right on the scene within seconds….wouldn’t have needed to be if they’d kept the cordons in place.

They (plod) now need to get onto that wee shite dressed head-to-toe in black (as they all are these days) who punches the car, the beaut what tried to open the driver door, and the gobshite I mentioned (with the backpack, who chases the car and launches something at it).

In my opinion they’ve turned an inconvenient/minor situation into a nightmare one.

And also the fat blert in the shorts & t-shirt what tries to butt the rear passenger window open after the car has stopped….just WHAT was that gobshite playing at?

If his head had gone through that glass he could’ve severed his jugular, the elephantine imbecile.

But anyway, none of that absolves the driver; why he went all over the bleedin road I have no idea. He’s got his own explaining to do regarding that.

One thing’s for sure, he won’t be from the Merseyside region in future.

  2. 53 yr old white male was arrested in connection with attacking the can containing the suspect ed driver.

Incitement or distraction? A small leaf is growing into a mighty acorn. More sheepdog than skwawkbox

  3. Police removed the road cordons but there were still thousands of people blocking the streets. When he drove through there were people literally smashing his windows. He looked like he panicked at the violent crowd and floored it. Police had snipers on top of buildings. I have videos of them. Had it been a terrorist Attack they did nothing. Police are wholly to blame for this.

  4. I don’t no if this was done on purpose i hope not but i think he panicked to try and get away from the crowd and why on earth would the police let him drive through a crowd before he started running people over it seems a bit strange

  5. It’s being claimed the car tailgated an ambulance that had been let through to attend an emergency call.

Which leaves the question: “Was the car blown through to ops/control as breaking the cordon, or was it waved through as routine?

I appreciate it’s very early on in the investigation, but something just doesn’t sit right.

It also appears that the driver is the only person from Liverpool in the area at that time. I’m yet to hear a true scouse voice on the vox pops on the news. Even the city council leader isn’t scouse. 😕

    1. Just my thoughts on the issue of ‘(Suspicion of) being unfit to drive through drugs’.

A charge which carries a MASSIVE caveat – one that the papers this morning seem to have disregard for, for the purposes of sensationalism…

      https://www.drinkdriving.org/drink_driving_laws_drivingwhileunfit.php#:~:text=Driving%20%2F%20attempting%20to%20drive%20while%20unfit&text=It%20is%20an%20offence%20under,so%20through%20drink%20or%20drugs.

      Evidence is required to show:

unfitness to drive: evidence of unfitness to drive can be established by witness observations of the defendants driving and condition

Which is no doubt supported by the video evidence of the erratic (to put it kindly) driving of the defendant

      HOWEVER….

The absence of scientific evidence of drink or drugs in the defendants system is not fatal to a prosecution for this offence.

Essentially, we’re informed that a conviction for driving while unfit through drugs, is possible on witness testimony alone??

      Not good enough, I’m afraid.

And I’m NOT mitigating for the defendant in any way.

I’m of the reasoning that evidence is mandatory in ensuring the scales of justice are tipped towards securing conviction; and unless there’s a positive test for drugs then there should be no charge under that offence. That goes for everyone.

OS: I’ve not heard or seen owt about drink driving, which would be rather easier to determine by witness statement, and would be evidenced almost immediately by breath test, followed by urine and/or blood samples.

  6. The media aren’t letting up on stirring the shit. They’re still at it.

It’s the latest instance of them using a story to whip the public into an emotional state – witness the 3 posts Skwawk had to take down in the immediate aftermath as the story became clearer. That’s what they want. A knee-jerk reaction. You can imagine for yourself how that serves the powers that be. Plod being praised for nipping trouble in the bud by taking the “unprecedented” step of giving out the nationality of the driver in double-quick time (supposedly) all looks a bit suspect in light of comments above.

    It’s worth repeating: Nobody died.
