Video: writer and activist Dylan Evans goes on trial today for supporting Palestine against genocide

Academic faces up to 14 years jail after being on bail for a year as British state colludes with pro-Israel extremists

The trial of writer and anti-genocide activist Dylan Evans for supporting Palestine and opposing Israel’s genocide and occupation begins tomorrow, after a year of bail, under the Terrorism Act for allegedly ‘supporting Hamas’ over comments on social media supporting the Palestinians’ right – a right that is clear under international law – to oppose illegal occupation.

Evans was accused in 2023 by the notorious ‘Gnasher Jew’ group of pro-Israel activists, who claimed that he had made antisemitic comments on Twitter/X. The Gnasher Jew group has been described as “extreme pro-Israel hawks” using accusations of antisemitism out of “a single-minded concern to protect a hard line stance on Palestine”.

The Starmer regime, since it came to power last July thanks to the far-right so-called ‘Reform UK’, has escalated the ‘lawfare’ war begun by the Tories to suppress pro-Palestinian speech and journalism and has raided, harassed, arrested and seized the devices of journalists and activists who expose Israel’s crimes in Gaza; it has charged a number of those harassed, including Jewish activists, and is holding some of its victims on bail or even in prison for more than a year before trial as it seeks to ‘make the process the punishment’ in case those accused are acquitted at trial.

Evans has been charged with ‘support for a proscribed organisation contrary to section 12 (1) of the Terrorism Act 2000’ and also charged with two counts of ‘intending to stir up racial hatred, contrary to section 19 of the Public Order Act 1986’.

Evans, from Hove, has said that he is prepared to go to prison for his conscience and principles:

British police raided Dylan Evans’ home and took all his belongings. We will be fighting his case in Westminster Magistrates Court at 10 am, tomorrow! Dylan refuses to be silenced. Neither should we.

Israel continues its illegal invasion of Gaza and its bombing and deliberate starvation of civilians in Gaza. More than 200,000 have been murdered, many more maimed, and hundreds of thousands of children are close to death from malnutrition after months of Israel’s starvation blockade.
