Bangladeshi anti-corruption authorities have reportedly issued a warrant today for the arrest of Hampstead and Highgate MP Tulip Siddiq. Siddiq was Keir Starmer’s anti-corruption minister until she quit the position after news of the Bangladeshi police investigation into her ties to luxury properties in Bangladesh, including one names ‘Tulip’s Territory’.
The Bangladeshi Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) requested the warrant in connection with allegations that she illegally received a 7,200 square feet plot of land in Dhaka. She is also under a separate investigation as part of a probe into her aunt, former PM of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, over a nuclear power plant deal. This is not linked to the current arrest warrant.
According to the ACC, several other properties under investigation, worth some £17m, are also linked to Siddiq and her family. The ACC has said that it is on site at all the properties as part of its investigation.

In 2018, Siddiq was revealed to be named on the list of supporters of the right-wing ‘Labour Friends of Israel’ that was sabotaging Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour party, but claimed that her name had been added without her consent.
New Bangladeshi leader Muhammad Yunus has said that London properties used by Ms Siddiq should be investigated and handed back to his government if they were acquired through “plain robbery”.

Siddiq does not appear to have commented publicly and most UK media have so far not reported on the issuance of the warrant.

According to the Extradition Act 2003, Bangladesh is a category 2 territory, type B country. So, a extradition request from Bangladesh would need decisions from both the Secretary of State and a court.
Tulip’s probably as safe as a right-wing serial sex offender in Sir Keir’s eyes.
