Video: Israeli troops crushed surgeon’s fingers, threatened wife with gang-rape and murder

Jewish-American volunteer surgeon relates colleague’s torture and abuse by occupation forces

Fresh from surviving an Israeli bombing attack on his surgical department in Gaza’s Nasser Hospital, Jewish-American surgeon Dr Mark Perlmutter has again exposed Israel’s crimes and targeting of medical staff during its genocide of Palestinians.

Sitting alongside fellow US volunteer Dr Feroze Sidhwa, Perlmutter has spoken of the torture of a Palestinian surgeon by Israeli troops who, during eleven months of wrongful detention:

• crushed his fingers to try to prevent him operating again and to try to coerce him into confessing falsely that he is a member of Hamas
• showed him a new picture of his wife taken by a spy and said they would gang-rape her if he did not confess to being part of Hamas
• when he still wouldn’t make the false confession, threatened to drone-bomb his wife and children
• inserted objects into his anus that they said were soaked in pig blood, which is unclean to Muslims and Jews

Perlmutter, a disaster surgery specialist, has previously spoken out about Israel’s targeted murder of children and has said that all the other disasters he has attended in his thirty-year career do not compare with what he has seen in his months in Gaza. Israel has said its bombing of the Nasser surgical department was to kill a wounded Hamas political director – in itself a war crime regardless of who the target was – but many believe it was targeting Perlmutter and other outspoken American volunteer doctors in the department.

Israel has now reportedly ordered foreign medical workers to leave Gaza or face the use of ‘new bombs’ supplied by the US regime of Donald Trump.
