Video: Six Palestinian babies freeze to death in Gaza in 12 hours as Israel blocks tents, shelters, fuel

Israel is refusing to let essentials for life into Gaza, in breach of ceasefire obligations

At least four Palestinian babies have died of the cold in Gaza as freezing weather – the coldest day for twenty years – creates appalling conditions for people trying to survive among the rubble of their former homes. Israel has blocked the entrance of tents, shelters, fuel and other essentials, in a blatant breach of its obligations under the supposed Gaza ‘ceasefire’ in which it continues to bomb and shoot civilians. At least three further babies are in critical condition because of cold and malnutrition, according to Dr Saeed Salah, Medical Director of the Patient’s Friends Hospital in G*za.

Local journalist Nahed Hajjaj last night described the day as ‘the coldest I’ve ever felt’ and author Mosab Abu Toha said it was the coldest day recorded in two decades:

Update: the infant death toll in Gaza is rising fast. In the hour since this article was first published two more babies have died and three more are in critical condition. This article has been amended to reflect that:

The deaths have received no UK ‘mainstream’ media coverage, nor any comment from Keir Starmer and his government, although he has found time to post on social media this morning about anti-social behaviour ‘ruining lives’ and about his commitment to war in Ukraine.
