As Starmer kowtows to Trump, France promises Denmark military support over Greenland

UK ‘poodle’ PM silent over far-right US president’s belligerence and threats – but France says it ‘will be there’ militarily if Denmark asks

France has offered full military support to Denmark if Greenland is threatened by far-right US president Donald Trump, after Trump tried to bully and bluster Danish PM Mette Frederiksen into handing over the huge arctic island.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said in an interview on French radio that France had “started discussing [the deployment of French troops to Greenland] with Denmark”, as Frederiksen toured European capitals to rally support against Trump’s belligerence. Barrot continued that:

If Denmark calls for help, France will be there. The European borders are sovereign whether it’s north, south, east and west…nobody can be allowed to mess around with our borders.

Frederiksen has reported said ‘not yet’ to the offer of a French defensive garrison on Greenland, but Barrot said that countries across the EU are “ready to consider [military deployments] if necessary”.

UK PM Keir Starmer, who has frequently been accused of acting as a US ‘poodle’, has been silent on the issue of Trump’s attempted land grab even though the UK has first option to buy Greenland under old treaties, instead gushing about how much he is looking forward to meeting the far-right president. Starmer is, of course, perfectly prepared to continue UK military support to Israel in its genocidal land-theft against Palestinian civilians, but in that he risks no telling-off from his functional boss.

Nothing from Starmer on either Greenland or Denmark.

Greenland, whose proper name is Namminersulivinneq, has a strong independence movement among its predominantly Inuit population and rightly belongs to them, but it should certainly not be handed over to the small-handed orange posturer, who has already tried and so far failed to bully Colombia and Honduras in South and Central America into submission.

  1. Nice photoshopping! Had a good chortle at that 😄😄😄.

Sums up that snivelling, simpering shithouse smarmer to a tee.

  2. ALL the big European countries should make the same offer. A shot across Trump’s bows now saves a lot of trouble later on

    1. Just as keef should be telling trump to GTF with his expansionist plans, so should those 7 suspended MPs be telling keef the same.

Those 7 will then be free to vote Amesbury to face the recall.

Result = keef loses 7 , potentially 8 seats. And the MSM aren’t gonna ignore that.

      1. Two hours since the above video was posted and still no reply pointing us to a video statement from Herr Starmer on any of these issues.

Has there been a hurricane in the Caribbean or something.

      2. The MSM ignored the Rosie Duffield resignation. With the exception of Sky (?)

      3. These MPs should just leave anyway.

Starmer will probably drop them at the next election anyway and they will be unprepared to fight as independents. If they go now, they can plan to stand as independents and speak their minds.

But I do think we also need to target for defeat anybody who puts his/her name forward to take over from a sacked candidate. And we should start with those councillors who sought to replace Corbyn and Faiza Shaheen. This way, Labour may struggle to get replacement candidates in future. Starmer’s power will thus be reduced.

Yep. Best get out now and make their mark on their own constituencies as indies, rather than kowtow to that slimy shower o’ shite and watch their constituencies decline while being complicit in it.

  3. He has to attend an an interview and receive his next instructions, like “you will allow American health companies take over your NHS” and we need more troops to invade another land that doesn’t belong to America.

  4. I didn’t do an exhaustive search (some newspapers – those behind paywalls mainly – don’t list their articles in/on search engines, and you have to do a search on their respective websites), but the only MSM outlet that came up when I did a general search re this, was the Evening Standard.

And this EuroNews article was posted three days ago:

Denmark to inject almost €2bn into Arctic security amid Trump’s Greenland threats

Copenhagen is boosting its military spending and holding talks with European allies as Trump ramps up his expansionist rhetoric.

Denmark will inject 14.6 billion kroner (€1.95 billion) into boosting its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic region, the country’s Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on Monday, as US President Donald Trump has repeatedly demanded to buy or otherwise take control of Greenland.

“There are serious challenges regarding security and defence in the Arctic and North Atlantic,” Denmark’s Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement, adding that the package would include three new Arctic naval vessels, two additional long-range surveillance drones and satellite capacity.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is meeting NATO allies German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and the alliance’s Secretary-General Mark Rutte in an effort to secure “unity” among European allies over Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory…

The EU has said it is “not negotiating” with the US when it comes to Denmark’s sovereignty, and that it stands behind the government’s position.

Now wouldn’t that be hilarious if we ended up with (some European) Nato countries at war with another Nato country – ie the US – and over Greenland, of all things.

Just did a search to see if I could find out what Greenland’s mineral wealth is estimated to be, and whilst no-one is actually putting a precise figure on it, it undoubtely amounts to hundered of £billions, and probably £trillions.

    1. Almost a Mexican standoff.

Could always be part of the orange one’s plan to get nato countries to increase their defence spending.

…But then again, IF Vlad the bad WAS to invade, say, Estonia; would dayglo don then invade Greenland while European nato had their eyes elsewhere?

Was only the other week he was saying the russkis and chinese had their eyes on it (The same excuse Hitler used to invade denmark – except it was the british threatening the dane’s neutrality).

And it wouldn’t be beyond the realms for him to claim he was somehow ‘owed’ it for any US involvement in a European theatre…

      1. “And it wouldn’t be beyond the realms for him to claim he was somehow ‘owed’ it for any US involvement in a European theatre…”

The US/Trump has already set that precedent by stating he/they wanted to seize Iraq and Syria’s oil (which in the case of Syria actually occurred and is still taking place) as reparations to the USA for the cost of destroying their societies.

However, the Greenland gambit could well pose a not dissimilar outcome for Europe (ie the EU and UK).

What the article Alan Howard, above, has linked to only tells us about the mineral deposit potential of Greenland’s resources. There are suggestions, however, that there could be significant gas deposits and a search engine trawl indicates that licences were stopped a few years back for various reasons.

Either way, at the present time as matters stand with Greenland being part of Denmark in whatever capacity any gas energy deposits could potentially be a benefit for Europe and European consumers.

Because at the moment, see here…….

        https://strategic-culture.su/news/2025/01/31/chihuahua-energy-policy-its-gas-gas-gas/

…..despite all the bluster about sanctions, the EU continues to buy Eurasian gas energy to heat the homes of its populace and serve the needs of what remains of its industrial base via third parties not only at record rates but also at higher prices than it was before they succumbed to PDS.

Even then those prices are not as high as US fracked LNG gas transported by tanker across the Atlantic. However, as the above article observes:

“the U.S. – via fracking – has enough gas for domestic consumption, but not enough to export en masse to the EU, because of liquification problems. That explains why even buying more American energy for exorbitant prices, the EU de facto remains largely dependent on Russian LNG – and non-U.S. sources – since the sabotage of the Nord Streams, unveiled in detail by Sy Hersh.

Even at full capacity, the Empire of Chaos simply cannot deliver all the gas the EU needs; add to it virtually no investment in both badly needed extra exploration plus the infrastructure necessary to meet increased EU demand.”

Now apart from some of the very obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse problems which the above article details – like the impact of any successful move on sanctioning out of existence other RF energy exports like the 5.8 million barrels of oil Russia exports would have on driving world oil prices through the roof – any US seizure of Greenland raises the following possibility:

At present, LNG US gas exports to Europe are limited due to liquification issues. And that would also work the other way around if Europe wanted to access the Greenland gas fields for its own energy needs.

However, if Europe, via Denmark were able to develop those potential Greenland gas fields to sell to the nearby Canadian and US markets it would bring in needed revenue to offset the current high costs of gas across the European market (EU and UK) and may even provide some revenue to offset that increase in defence spending the US is demanding of Europe to sell it the expensive not fit for purpose shite that Raytheon and other US MIC pork barrel companies produce.

If the US grabs those Greenland fields in a beggar-my-neighbour approach to Europe, than the European energy problems continue.

What is becoming clearer by the day is that the threat to Europe and its peoples is not coming from the East but from across the Atlantic
