Electronic Intifada (EI) director Ali Abunimah has been arrested by Swiss police ahead of a speaking engagement in Zurich on Saturday afternoon. He is being held in custody and has legal representation. Abunimah arrived in Switzerland on Friday and was questioned by police for an hour before being allowed to enter the country.
The arrest is the latest worrying escalation of western regimes’ war on journalists who expose Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people, with the UK and Germany being two of the worst. Abunimah is not the only EI journalist to be targeted – British writer Asa Winstanley’s home was raided and electronic devices seized, a ‘lawfare’ repression tactic the regime of hardline Zionist PM Keir Starmer has been using intensively against pro-Palestinian voices.
