Video: ‘They all had names’ – stunning, tragic ‘grains of rice’ video shows horrific Gaza genocide death toll

Simple but horrifying depiction shows scale of Israel’s crimes in Gaza

It is fitting that Skwawkbox’s first article of 2025 is a video showing the appalling scale of Israel’s mass slaughter of Palestinian civilians – more than 200,000 – in its genocide in Gaza. UK politicians are ignoring even the most blatant atrocities and providing political and material support to the terror state, and UK and other western ‘mainstream’ media are eagerly pointing our attention elsewhere, but Palestine is still the issue and there can be no real peace until the Palestinians have justice.

Icelandic artist Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir‘s video brings home something of the scale of the horror inflicted on the people of Gaza since October 2023, by the simple but powerful device of representing each murdered person by a single grain of rice, then allowing those grains to build, and showing the names of a few before reminding us that ‘They all had names’:

Have a resolute new year against racism, imperialism and murder everywhere.
