Having pledged to reverse injustice to ‘WASPI’ women, red Tories now say no – would take effort to work out what to pay and better to rob everyone than risk compensating someone more

DWP Secretary Liz Kendall today confirmed that the Starmer government is betraying all the 1950s-born women deprived of pensions – that they had contracted with the state for throughout their working lives – by Tory governments’ arbitrary changes to state pension age, pushing many of them into hardship and forcing many back into work when they had legitimately expected to retire.
The 1995 Pensions Act increased womens’ age of entitlement to state pension by five years, with the transition for women born between 1950 and 1955 then accelerated by the the 2011 Pensions Act, forcing women to wait up to six years longer.
Keir Starmer, Kendall, Chancellor Rachel Reeves and deputy PM Angela Rayner had all, in opposition, supported the women’s ‘WASPI’ (Women against State Pension Inequality’) campaign and promised to ‘deliver a fair solution’:

But Kendall today announced that there will be no compensation at all for WASPI women, despite the Ombudsman finding in their favour, basically because it would take too much effort to work out for each woman what she had been robbed of, and the government doesn’t want to go with the flat-rate sum recommended by the Ombudsman because the £10bn it would cost can better be spent on weapons or royal stuff. Ok, she didn’t add that last detail but that’s what it amounts to:
In other words, the women paid their whole working lives into pensions they were promised, then governments decided not to honour the deal – and the current red Tories are rubber-stamping the robbery because it would cost some time, money and effort to put it right.
Kendall’s announcement has rightly met with outraged disgust. There is no difference between Tories, regardless what rosette colour they wear.

Contemptible. But thoroughly expected.
And they’re FAR from finished shafting ordinary folk.
Waspis
Windrush
Post masters
Infected blood victims.
It’s almost as though they’ve all been effectively involuntarily made part of some sort of tontine system.
You should add
the LAAS BMA attack – where according to JewishNews
“Wes Streeting (has) urged regulators to take a “zero-tolerance approach” to staff who posted racist views. He said they should be disciplined or struck off if they used the conflict in the Middle East “as a pretext to attack communities.”.”
Two points:
1 – It’s a Labour Right RERUN of the “JeremyCorbyn is a Jew-Hater” campaign to make sure he never became PM.
2 – The above (with 500gb supporting data collated by AlJazeera) and this ALSO serve to DISTRACT attention from Israel’s treatment and genocide of Palestinians.
The Labour Right is every bit as contemptible as Badenoch and Farage.
If you’re about 55 or younger, you won’t be getting a state pension. What you will be getting is lots of pressure about ending your life.
Tell me abar it. NVLA.
They’re doing their best to run me into an early grave as it is. I got shafted over the covid £20 payments – I’ll never see that, even though prices went up for me every bit as much as it did for UC claimants (and everyone else, including those who got furloughed).
And thats even though I’m still saving the country £000s for the unpaid care work I’m doing. So much so that I get about 3-4 hours sleep most nights, perhaps 5-6 on a good night. Never uninterrupted.
Which has led to me developing atrial fibrillation…which isn’t enough for me to claim any disability benefit, but would, no doubt, vastly increase any private health/travel/life insurance policy premium…IF I was able to afford one, that is.
From the cradle to the grave…they’ll shaft you any and every way they can.
Absolutely Disgusting!
In opposition Right Wing Labour senior women like Reeves & Kendal & some men stood with the WASPI women.
Will be a lot of extremely shocked and hurt women out there tonight.
Struggling to find the words to condemn this especially after the Ombudsman recommended compensation.
Two faced Right Wing Labour putting the rich first.
A left wing democratic socialist Govt a la Corbyn supported compensation & if we can get some leaders with the vision to form a new party with perhaps Corbyn’s brand name soon, as Right Wing Labour will be wiped out, it would compensate the remaining WASPI women.
Grotesque Right Wing Labour.
The lousy, good for nothing, Red Tory, shower of crap barstewards of the lowest order.
Someone ought to get “4%” a shaving kit for Xmas. Cutthroat, naturally!
Careful now, tim.

Welcome to the flip side of the self-proclaimed (and self-defined) so-called “progressivism” which thought that outlawing anyone they didn’t like through allegations of “hate crime” would not come back to bite them in the arse.
Welcome to the real world of reciprocity and the generic application of principles and the inevitable blowback as the manufactured hierarchy of oppression in the hands of the Man is used to outlaw and cancel anyone having the temerity to even complain about The Official Narrative or call attention to the crimes of the oligarchy and those at the top of that hierarchy of oppression.
Welcome to Hell.
I wonder if there is anyone, within the ranks of this Labour Party, plotting to ditch Starmer and his clique? Anyone – anyone, at all?
Now would be a good time to speak up, if there are such persons.
Not going to happen GP. Although Starmer is
– Hated by the right,
– despised by the left and
– distrusted by the centrists,
Starmer’s such an anti- and non–leader, as soon as he’s ‘ditched’ by the party it will collapse-in on itself. It was the same with Jo Stalin.
No one can say Stammer isn’t uniter, he’s united both the left and right, both hate him.
Reeves in an interview…
“I understand some people are disappointed
“Disappointed” F complete and total FS
As long as their arses face the ground, they’ll just NEVER get it.
£10 billion to compensate these people, a one-off payment.
Annual expenditure:
War of choice in Ukraine: £3 billion
Increased military spending: £2.9 billion
And so, this ‘unaffordable’ compensation could be achieved within about two years.
How is the restoring trust in politics thing coming along?
Monies recouped from the covid free-for-tories = many more £££bn.
Wealth & Corporate tax evasion and loopholes closed = many more £££bn.
But as skwawkie says, it’s a bit too much like work.
The diversion of our money to wars of choice and supporting genocide which represents a very real holocaust for the victims whilst people denied those resources go hungry or literally die of cold is, as pointed out here,…..

…..nothing less than social murder.
Dissecting the fundamentals of the Luigi Mangione case and the two opposing reactions to it – The Official Narrative and that of the majority – we are left with two choices:
” If you support social murder — death at a distance executed by corporate greed — you also have to be fine with retaliation. Justifying one type of murder justifies both.
If you think all murder is wrong, you should then be strongly opposed to state-sanctioned death, including by corporate bodies who turn death into profit.
You can’t support corporate killing and oppose its deadly response. I myself oppose murder of all kinds. So I want our billionaires and their deadly corporate consiglieri very well guarded. Visibly, grandly, over-ambitiously guarded.
Why? For the second reason.
I want people to see with their eyes who their rulers are, to know without anyone having to launch into speech. To know by looking and feeling. To know in their bones.
Because class consciousness, folks. Or truth in advertising.”
Delay, Deny, Dispose.
