Video: Home Secretary Cooper visits far-right youth organisation for anti-refugee talks

Starmeroid cosying to neo-fascists continues

Cooper at the far-right youth event in Italy

Keir Starmer’s Home Secretary Yvette Cooper accepted an invitation to attend a far-right youth event in Italy yesterday to discuss anti-refugee measures with Italian interior minister Matteo Piandetosi, appointed by neo-fascist Italian PM Giorgia Meloni.

Atreju was originally founded by Meloni as the far-right youth organisation Youth Action, the youth section of the National Alliance, and since 2014 has been part of the far-right Fratelli d’Italia (Italian Brothers) group also founded by Meloni in 2012.

Cooper’s appearance at the Atreju rally was mentioned in press reports before it took place and footage was briefly shown by Sky News early on Sunday morning:

However, the footage disappeared from Sky’s broadcast soon afterward and has not been reported further today anywhere in the UK media, according to search results, although images of it are being sold by photographic agencies:

Cooper used her appearance at the rally to discuss anti-refugee measures, shortly afterward announcing a raft of new policies framed as ‘cracking down on smuggler gangs’ – but UK law under both blue and red Tories already treats even a refugee who so much as steers a boat – a job routinely forced by smugglers on refugees who can’t pay the highest prices – as criminal smugglers and prosecutes them accordingly.

The Atreju appearance is not the Starmer party’s first instance of cosying up with the far right. Just before the general election and shortly after smearing Bangladeshi Britons as illegal immigrants, Starmer himself announced he would work with Marine le Pen to stop refugee boats – at the time it looked like le Pen would form the next French government but cooperation among the left prevented it, despite French president Macron’s constitutional betrayal.

Starmer’s police-state instincts are, in fact, difficult to distinguish from the fascist outlook and he happily colluded, in supposed ‘opposition’, with Tory measures designed to take the UK down the road toward fascism. Now Cooper, on his behalf, is courting Italian fascists to appeal to allow her boss to blow his anti-immigrant dogwhistle.

  1. It’s all that rotter Jeremy Corbyn’s fault: if he hadn’t been such a loony lefty, poor Yvette Cooper wouldn’t need to do her impression of a born-again blackshirt at a Mussolini Youth Group to prove that Sir Keir has fixed Labour…
    Well-and-truly fixed.

  2. Always struck me as an irma grese type. I mean, has mizz balls EVER taken a flattering photo?

Forever looking like a bulldog that’s licking piss off a nettle.

It must be all the bile balls is trying to suppress.
