Questions from committee expose the complicity, enabling and contortions of Starmer’s government
Government ministers Stephen Doughty, Douglas Alexander and Vernon Coaker, along with their civil service heads, were questioned by MPs this week over the Starmer government’s support for Israel’s slaughter in Gaza – and, pressed by the Foreign Affairs Committee about their decision to keep enabling Israel despite it dropping 2,000lb bombs on densely-packed civilian areas, they squirmed.
And their answers – that something being completely wrong doesn’t mean its against international law and that it isn’t their job to decide if humanitarian law is being broken, only to assess UK exports against whether it might be – exposed the craven, twisted doublespeak that the Starmer government uses to justify its support for the terror state of Israel and its war criminal leaders.
Asked about why the UK had not come to a conclusion that dropping such huge bombs on tightly-packed civilians, Doughty appealed to ‘technicalities’, responding that:
there is a technicality here about the way the assessments are done, and the way in which those then inform.
And as the point was pressed, the circus continued:
And when asked how the UK could consider the disproportionality of Israel’s levelling of Gaza to be ‘such an unknown’ when there are “hundreds of RAF flights flying over Gaza on a daily basis, so you can see the day-by-day destruction”, Coaker claimed that this was because the RAF was:
look[ing] for the hostages and to see whether the hostages could be found by the use of the surveillance planes. That was the whole purpose of the RAF planes,
So presumably this somehow made them blind to more than two-thirds of Gaza’s buildings, including most of its housing, being destroyed by the approaching 100,000 tonnes of bombs dropped by Israel on the tiny, packed strip, murdering more than 200,000 civilians, overwhelmingly women and children, and maiming many more.
The UK government is an enabler of and active participant in genocide.

Wholesale slaughter’s been going on for 14 months in gaza, and very few hostages have been rescued rather than released – or killed – or murdered by their own side.
But it appears the MoD has money to burn on sending drones to look for these hostages day after day – several times a day…Got x-ray vision have they?
I ask because we’re repeatedly told those hostages are all in underground tunnel network.
Facial recognition? From thousands of feet up, and after fourteen months or more, those hostages are all gonna look exactly like they do on a couple of photos, aren’t they?
Hostages, schmostages. They’re there to assist the murderers murder – no more, no less.
They’re taking the piss.

In times of peace and prosperity this shower would be mediocre and cringe at best. In a time where we desperately need those in public office to have integrity, oversight and a sense of public service, they bring absolute disgrace to the UK and shame us all. How I miss Tony Benn.
The UK government is an enabler of and active participant in genocide.
And when you have said that you have said everything. Out government supports ongoing genocide. It does NOT represnt the UK population which is 80%+ against it. How can such a government claim to represnt us?
It would be funny if it weren’t so tragic.
Unfortunately the Ctee missed a point: if they are bombing the hell out of Gaza 1) they don’t care about the hostages or 2) they know where the hostages AREN’T, so that means they know where they ARE. 3) If they know where they are, why aren’t the rescuing them rather than endangering them?
Are they helping the targeting of every hospital, school, food distribution warehouse, tent, etc because they know the hostages aren’t there? In which case these are blatant war crimes, or what? Never mind international law, these politicians are likely breaking UK law on the prevention of genocide. Instead of harassing opponents of genocide the police would gain great popularity and kudos by opening an investigation into these Ministers defending the indefensible. A very funny video was posted by a guy who played journalist, Israeli spokesman and spokesman’s enforcer. He put exactly the right line of questioning to highlight the above points – in the end, the spokesman accused the journalist of Antisemitism!!
“…. for the hostages and to see whether the hostages could be found by the use of the surveillance planes. That was the whole purpose of the RAF planes”
They must think we are all ****ing stupid, but even if the above were true, why on earth should the UK government take on any responsibility for finding the remaining hostages? We have been told almost daily from July onwards, there are ‘difficult decisions’ to be made, ‘cuts and efficiencies’ here ‘cuts and efficiencies’ there, yet it seems there is plenty of taxpayers’ money available for propping up genocidal Israel.
I had the lowest expectations of a Labour government under Starmer, but day by day it continues to sink lower and lower and it totally disgusts me.

My sentiments exactly. .
Ratbastards have got more than enough drones, and they’re using them to shoot people at random.
Coaker once congratulated the then Conservative government for supplying depleted uranium weapons to the government of the Ukraine.
Poisoning the people of Ukraine with such weapons is an extremely curious way of showing support.

Instead of harassing opponents of genocide the the authorities should be taking a serious look at those participating in it.
Every single hostage could have been released on the 8th October
