Last orthopaedic doctor in N Gaza murdered by Israel

Drone shoots Dr Said Joudah in head on his way between hospitals

Israel has murdered northern Gaza’s last orthopaedic doctor in northern Gaza in a drone attack today. Dr Said Joudah was shot in the head by a military ‘quadcopter’ drone as he made his way to the al-Awda hospital, part of the occupation’s intensive targeting of medical personnel and facilities. Orthopaedics is the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, vital when so many are suffering horrific bullet and shrapnel injuries.

Dr Joudah was killed as he was heading from the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya to Al-Awda Hospital to treat wounded patients. He had been wounded two weeks ago but refused to leave his patients and continued to serve – a similar story to that of the Kamal Adwan’s intensive care director Dr Hassam Abu Safiya, murdered two weeks ago by an Israeli drone after refusing orders to evacuate the hospital and abandon his patients.

Israel has killed well over a thousand medical personnel in Gaza since it began its genocide in October 2023, along with hundreds of thousands of civilians, overwhelmingly women and children, and many more wounded. Gaza’s Ministry of Health has made a renewed appeal to international governments, humanitarian and human rights organisations to provide protection for hospitals and their personnel.

In the last twenty-four hours, Israel has committed at least three further massacres of refugees, killing and wounding well over a hundred new known victims as well as many others buried under rubble and not yet identified, while the occupation starves the two million Palestinians surviving in Gaza.

UK PM Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy have refused to acknowledge Israel’s genocide and continue to provide political cover and military assistance to the regime of wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu.
