Netanyahu, Biden claim Hezbollah ceasefire deal and continues bombing – but ‘deal’ not confirmed

Hezbollah has not announced its agreement – and claimed ceasefire terms are the same it has previously rejected

Israel continues to bomb civilians in Lebanon even as it claims it has reached a ceasefire deal.

Israel continues to bomb Beirut even as its PM Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed to have reached a ceasefire deal with Lebanese militia group Hezbollah. US president Joe Biden has also announced the deal, saying he hopes it will mean ‘normalisation’ between Israel and rich Arab states such as Saudi Arabia, but Israel conducted heavy bombing even as he was speaking and has targeted further buildings in West Beirut, triggering hurried evacuations:

But serious questions remain whether any deal is even close or this is another manoeuvre by wanted war criminal Netanyahu. As well as the bombing continuing and Netanyahu admitting that the Israeli cabinet has not yet approved the ceasefire, the Lebanese government will not be meeting to discuss the proposal until well after the supposed start of the ceasefire at 4am tomorrow Lebanese time and Hezbollah has not yet announced its agreement – and the supposed deal contains the same provisions that it has continually said it will not accept, a refusal echoed by Lebanese government ministers.

The claimed agreement would involve Hezbollah withdrawing north of the Litani river and allowing the Lebanese army to take over the territory between the Litani and northern Israel – and it is not linked to any end, or even pause, of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. The deal pushed by the US, accompanied by threats from an Israeli-American enforcer and a fanatically pro-Israel German minister, involved Lebanon surrendering its sovereignty to Israel and allowing Israeli planes freedom to fly anywhere over Lebanese territory.

The reality of any deal is also undermined by Netanyahu – no stranger to arrogant statements – saying openly that he wants the deal with Lebanon so Israel can ‘focus on Iran’. With Iran gearing up to go to war to defend itself and its strong links with Lebanese groups, its Lebanese allies seem unlikely to stand aside to clear the way for more Israeli aggression against the strongest obstacle to its domination.

It is still possible that this ‘deal’ is a charade by Netanyahu in an attempt to allow him to claim – his usual modus operandi – that he and his far-right government agreed a ceasefire but ‘the other side’ rejected it. Netanyahu has claimed this repeatedly about Gaza, even though he and his aides have now been accused of spying on their own country and leaking information to foreign media in order to sabotage previous Gaza ceasefires:

And even if Netanyahu were capable of sincerity on the issue, other Arab nations take a dim view of the idea that an ‘Pax Americana’ should lead to genocidal Israel being rewarded with the ‘normalisation’ Biden wants:

Peace in Lebanon is anything but assured – until the ceasefire actually begins, events so far can just as easily be Netanyahu manoeuvring again for political advantage and at best it means a breathing space for hard-pressed Lebanese civilians forced to watch Israel being rewarded for its crimes against them and their Palestinian neighbours.

  1. Oh for Gods sake. A ceasefire happening is as likely as me becoming the next PM.

    1. Cindy – Here’s some breaking news for you. 😏

      BREAKING NEWS

The ceasefire agreed between Hezbollah and Israel is due to commence at GMT 02:00 on 27/11/24.

How long it will last remains to be seen.

      1. Skwawkie’s incisive article points out “Peace in Lebanon is anything but assured – until the ceasefire actually begins, events so far can just as easily be Netanyahu manoeuvring again for political advantage and at best it means a breathing space for hard-pressed Lebanese civilians forced to watch Israel being rewarded for its crimes..”

Point is, if it really exists, it’s a “FRAGILE” ceasefire. Israel has to agree to withdraw its forces from Gaza, from Lebanon and to pay compensation to the Lebanon communities it effectively invaded.

I wouldn’t bank on it lasting very long – mind you, even just 12 hours would save around 20 Lebanese lives.

      2. qwertboi – It may be a fragile peace but to date it has been operation for 12 hours.

  2. “Don’t shoot till you hear the word ceasefire” from Spitting Image early 1990s on Yugoslavia war.

  3. I cannot see a cease fire deal in which Hezbollah agree to move north of the Litani, still less if Israel does not include a cease fire in Gaza also, and all Israeli troops withdraw from there as well. If such a deal was accepted and some in the Lebanese government would indeed sign such a document, Hezbollah will have the last word. Any move by them north of the Litani without without a cease fire in Gaza would mean a comprehensive defeat for the ‘arc of resistance’. The Houthis closed Iilat port in southern Israel, which is approx 2000 Kilometres away.
Whereas Hezbollah (who have far more missiles than the Houthis) have not attempted to close Haifa port when it is almost visible from Southern Lebanon (approx 15 miles) The US has been trying to unsuccessfully gin up a civil war between the various factions, now they hope the Lebanese armed forces will help them do the dirty work for them.

    1. I believe Hezbollah has insisted on a ceasefire in Gaza and withdrawal of the occupier’s army from there as a prerequisite for their cooperation. Moreover, most Lebanese people seem to agree with Hezbollah’s position. The Americans are indeed perplexed by this and resort to their usual trickery and deceit in their ever-deeper and frequent confusion.

      1. qwertboi – Really, I guess we’ll see soon enough

The ceasefire agreed between Hezbollah and Israel is due to commence in 40 minutes at GMT 02:00 on 27/11/24.

How long it will last remains to be seen.

  4. At the end of September 2024 it was reported that

Lebanon ready to implement Resolution 1701; ending Israeli aggression key to solution: Mikati
    Ahram Online , Monday 30 Sep 2024

Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that Lebanon is ready to fully implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the Israeli war against it in 2006, and that ending the Israeli aggression on the country is the key to the solution.

“We in Lebanon are ready to implement 1701, and immediately upon the implementation of the ceasefire, Lebanon is ready to send the Lebanese army to the area south of the Litani River and to carry out its full duties,” in coordination with UN peacemakers, Mikati said in a press conference after a meeting with parliament speaker Nabih Berri.

He also stressed that Lebanon accepts everything mentioned in the statement issued by the United States and several European and Arab countries calling for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.

    1. And here, from about a month ago, is why that never went anywhere, Billy:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72HRwToTKFk&ab_channel=TheGrayzone

Bottom line; The US/Zionist position on that Resolution redefined it to their own ends, which effectively turned it into a surrender scenario which Lebanon rejected.

Do try and keep up rather than misleading people with old, outdated, and discredited information, Billy Boy.

      1. ……and yet here we are just 4 weeks after the Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that Lebanon is ready to fully implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and a ceasefire deal based on SCR1701 has been in operation since 2am (GMT) this morning.

      2. Ooops – …and yet here we are just 4 weeks 2 months after the Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that Lebanon is ready to fully implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and a ceasefire deal based on SCR1701 has been in operation since 2am (GMT) this morning.

      3. Knock, Knock!

        Nerve to brain cell?

        Is anyone there?

Tell us, Billy, which bits of the US/Israeli interpretation from the October document presented to the Lebanese Government by the former Israeli tank driver Amos Hochstein…..

        https://thecradle.co/articles-id/27375

which ” change[ed] the language of the introduction to the UN Resolution, making it an agreement “aimed at establishing peace on the borders between Lebanon and Israel and preventing any armed presence in the Lebanese areas near these borders,”

        ie:

“It is requested that the geographical scope of the international decision-making authority be expanded to a distance of several kilometers north of the Litani River, at least two kilometers,” the report adds, citing details from the proposal, which also calls for “a significant increase in the number of international forces operating within the peacekeeping forces, and an increase in the number of Lebanese army forces that are supposed to be deployed in that region [as part of Resolution 1701].”

Hochstein’s proposal, according to the sources, includes expanding the mandate of international forces who would be present in Lebanon with the right to carry out “surprise patrols” and inspections of any homes, vehicles, or sites suspected of holding weapons.

The amendments proposed by Hochstein also call for deploying inspection teams to Lebanon’s airports and setting up watchtowers in the north and south of the country.

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri was reportedly “very clear” with Hochstein that he rejects any amendment to UN Resolution 1701, and there “is a Lebanese consensus to implement it, and that any attempt to amend it will destroy the opportunity to implement it.”

Berri told Hochstein that the US should look for ways to implement the resolution in a way that guarantees Israel will respect it, and that nobody in Lebanon would accept what the White House envoy is offering. ”

….is in the current reported agreement?

In simple terms: Whose definition of UN Resolution 1701 has prevailed? Are the original US amendments rejected by Lebanon last month part of this deal or not?

We await your answer with bated breath, Billy.

      4. Dave – Who cares, the fact remains that the ceasefire based on UN SCR1701 has been in force for nearly 24hrs now.

      5. “Who cares”

Well, you certainly cared enough to post this misleading drivel at 11:33pm, 26/11/24, Billy:

“He also stressed that Lebanon accepts everything mentioned in the statement issued by the United States and several European and Arab countries calling for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.”

Now, when you have been given chapter and verse on the reality that the Lebanese
Government actually rejected the American redefinition of the UN Resolution, you’ve gone all coy and are trying to pretend it’s irrelevant.

The Lebanese Government certainly did not take the “who cares” position. Otherwise, there could have been a ceasefire weeks ago. Albeit one which would have meant a surrender of the Lebanese and the imposition of Western troops into Lebanon with the power to search houses, villages, and vehicles at a moment’s notice along with airport inspection teams and watchtowers throughout southern Lebanon.

In short the occupation of the country by foreign powers acting as enforcers for the Zionist supremacists and the loss of sovereignty.

And, of course, the American’s cared enough to try it on. Again.

      6. Dave – “Well, you certainly cared enough to post this misleading drivel at 11:33pm, 26/11/24, Billy:
“He also stressed that Lebanon accepts everything mentioned in the statement issued by the United States and several European and Arab countries calling for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel.”

        Did I really?
        Have you read this yet?
        https://english.ahram.org.eg/News/532714.aspx

      7. ……As reported elsewhere on this site in regard to the Zionist State sabotaging ceasefire deals – which could have saved hundreds of thousands of Palestinian lives – the original attempt by the US on behalf of it’s client proxy in that region to bulldoze Lebanon into surrender terms by redefining the UN Resolution scuppered a ceasefire that could have been achieved earlier.

Which means a lot of innocent Lebanese civilians were slaughtered and lost their lives for the vanity and hubris which is the US/UK Empire’s vain attempts in the face of reality to maintain their fascistic hegemony over the planet.

Those who lost their lives during this period lost them for nothing other than the racist greed of Oligarchic Western exceptionalists. Their surviving families and communities certainly care, Billy.

The fact that you don’t care tells us all everything we need to know about you.

    2. Yes Billy, you did.

      As explained to you here.

      https://skwawkbox.org/2024/11/26/netanyahu-biden-claim-hezbollah-ceasefire-deal-and-continues-bombing-but-deal-not-confirmed/#comment-261953

That September article you are hanging your hat on was based on proposed text where the American’s and Israeli’s were redefining the UN Resolution. The links to the Grayzone and the Cradle explain why the Lebanese Government were not signing that deal, contrary to the September article you posted which you now imply was correct,

It is therefore misleading drivel. You might not have written that article but you have certainly pinned your name to the inaccurate information it contains.

      Own it. It’s yours, Billy.

  5. We only have to see the difference between Israel’s settlers still refusing to return to their settlements in the North and Lebanese rushing to go back to their settlements in South Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s operatives are the husbands, fathers, sons of the families living in southern Lebanon. Thus, officially Hezbollah will withdraw to north of the Letani river, but in practice Hezbollah will be keeping a very close eye on Israel’s operations in the area and as soon as Israel breaches the terms of resolution 1701 Hezbollah will respond.
The condition that the Lebanese Army takes control of the area doesn’t mean very much at all. Shias amount for over 25% of Lebanon’s population. Thus, it isn’t that difficult to envisage that Shias would be also officers in the Lebanese Army and that Shias will be enlisted to the Lebanese Army.
Israel can spin this deal which ever way he likes but, this is a clear defeat for Israel and the sooner it concludes a cease fire in Gaza, the better it would be for Israel.

    1. Before the supposed-ceasefire was even twelve hours old, Aljazeera reported
“Israeli soldiers have fired at journalists, wounding two people in Khiam, southern Lebanon, marking the first violation of the ceasefire.”

Yes, Maria, agree, the sooner the terrorist state “concedes” a ceasefire in Gaza, the more secure its very continuation will be. Tipping point….

FWIW, I’m no Muslim but I’m told the shia/sunni issue is not relevant here. Peace-loving Muslims of both traditions are as one in their disgust at Israel’s genocide against its occypied people and that tipping point thing is mostly about ME states’ resolve to defend themselves America’s lack of leadership (of the supposed. ‘free’ world) is allowing a reprobate tenant of the Kremlin to offer more Hope than the self-serving US of A. (I’ll try to post a Times of India/ Press Association video, but in a different post – Sometimes WordPress doesn’t let them through.

      1. qwertboi – Why was the Israeli Envoy surprised. As I understand it Putin and Netanyahu were best friends before the US told Netanyahu that unless he told Putin to do one then he could forget any prospect of the US supplying Israel with F35s. It was inevitable that the petulant Putin would throw his toys out of his pram.

      2. “F-35”. They certainly saw Bibi coming when they sold him that single historically most expensive not fit for purpose pile of aero junk toy.

Surpassed only in systemic terms by the now obsolete naval carrier group.

Living as you are – like the numpties you shill for, Billy, in an unreality bubble – you are seriously deluded as to who it is has got the toys and who it is has the real thing: As detailed here*

      3. Dave – “*One again we have a URL link which is censored by this site which has the gall to complain about Facebook censorship whilst engaging in the same practice. Necessitating – now for the fifth attempt – splitting the entire URL into small discrete chunks.”

This is self evidently a load of nonsense.

      4. “This is self evidently a load of nonsense.”

Which begs the question as to why it is five previous posts over the space of an hour or so containing that URL failed to appear?

You would not, perchance, be calling me a liar on that particular point, Billy?

      5. Dave – “Which begs the question as to why it is five previous posts over the space of an hour or so containing that URL failed to appear?”
Do you have a credible explanation?

“You would not, perchance, be calling me a liar on that particular point, Billy?”
Why do you ask, does Putin have a legal fund for his useless idiots?
On the contrary I am quite happy for other readers to examine the evidence above and reach their own conclusions about the veracity of your assertions.

      6. “Do you have a credible explanation.”

Given it is not the first time this has occurred, only on this site and no other with certain URL links – across different devices – it is reasonable, in the absence of contrary evidence, that the problem resides at the other end – ie this site – rather than at my end.

What’s your explanation – if you have one, Billy – along with some substantive evidence for whatever numptyland theory you come up with?

Talking of which, whilst you are at it, perhaps you could enlighten the readers of this site precisely what Putin has got to do with this specific problem?

Is your Putin Derangement Syndrome (PDS) so acute that you are now claiming Putin did it?

And to save time, Billy, you could perhaps point out anywhere on this site in which I have brought up the subject of Putin other than in direct response to a post in which you have inaccurately and incorrectly redefined support for a general principle to suit your own rhetorical lies arising from your PDS condition.

  6. One theory is Netanyahu was aware of a possible military coup if he didn’t agree to a Ceasefire in Lebanon
The IDF doesn’t fight conventional wars for this long, they are close to collapse
Then there’s the wild card that is Trumpton, if he has any military advisor with more than half a brain, they will tell him Israel cannot defend itself against the axis of resistance, they have the capacity to wipe them out many times over
Only direct commitment of US forces could possibly make a difference but it would be a huge gamble
A regional war would bring down the already bankrupt financial system
Trumpton needs to get on the phone and throw a Rake of fucks into Netanyahu and Zelensky and Biden and the Fuhrer and Macron and Scholz

      1. To paraphrase Josey Wales, I guess Doug “didn’t pay him no mind, you were there.”

      2. Herr Flick
When Trumpton calls Putin he will be told in no uncertain terms what Peace looks like for Russia in Ukraine and what will happen to Israel and US interests in the Middle East if they attack Iran
There is precisely zero trust in anything the Yanks say, they will get what their given, no room for negotiations, all Trumpton can do is damage limitation

      3. Do try and keep up at the back there.

It’s called wit, Billy. Something you can’t buy.

Watch the film. You never know, if you concentrate, the penny might drop.

      4. Dave – “It’s called wit, Billy. Something you can’t buy.”

…..and given that you are the one who is having to explain your ‘wit’ it is obvious that have learnt this through bitter experience.

      5. Billy – the more pertinent question is, do you trust any of the half wit clueless marionettes of the Oligarchy nominally running the West – Biden, Trump, Sullivan, Graham, Nuland, Blinken, der-layen, Baerbock, Scoltz, Macron, Starmer, Borrell, Lammy, Reeves et al.?

That’s where you need to start worrying, as all competency and basic human values have been managed and expunged from the system from top to bottom.

      6. If you can’t keep up, Billy, that’s your problem, not mine.

      7. Trust to do what, Billy?

Blow up the planet? Not blow up the planet?

Go read up, as one mere example, former Reagan Administration member Paul Craig Roberts – who for as far back as you can go has been beating the drum berating Putin for being too patient and too soft with the morons running the West. A critique Putin also receives from within the RF.

Robert’s complaint being that by not acting decisively to the provocations of the Western elites, Putin is encouraging them to escalate further, to the point in which the escalatory position of blowing up the planet arrives a lot quicker.

What Roberts does fail to take into account in this critque is the reality is that since the announcement of the new hypersonic weapons and EW systems back in 2018 – along with being in possession of the world’s best air defence systems – the RF has had first strike capability and could take out NATO and the entire collective West anytime it wants to if it had the same warped mindset of the Collective West.

The sub-text of the dwindling band of Westerns grown-ups like Paul Craig Roberts, among a few others, being the question as to why, in the face of the constant infantile provocations – from the rapid eastward expansion of NATO to the interference of colour revolutions, sanctions, support for neo-Nazis, murder of Russian speakers, publicly published Western plans to break up the RF, cultural boycotts, broken agreements and more- why has this supposed “despot” not used that very real advantage?

Because you can bet your pension and life savings that if the boot were on the other foot the entire Eurasian Heartland all the way to the Pacific would by now be a smoking pile of lifeless empty wilderness being plucked clean of its vital resources and rare earths by the interchangeable Biden’s, Trump’s, Sunak’s, Starmers, Macrons, and other assorted non-agreement capable excuse for human beings who infest the West and the rest of the planet like parasites.

Putin isn’t really the problem here, Billy.

If he disappeared in a puff of smoke tomorrow, shills such as yourself would not miss a beat in switching to Medvedev, Lavrov, Mishustin, Manturov, or some other dishonestly manufactured hobgoblin of your fevered, infantile, imagination.

Because the real problem here is not that Putin or whoever is or is not whatever negative invective tickles your fancy at any one time.

It is that he is, unlike Yeltsin, Starmer, Macron, Scoltz, and a whole host of other past and present comprador class marionettes, not lying on his belly in subjugation and crying uncle by handing over the sovereignty and resources of the people and country he resides in to a bunch of know nothing carpetbaggers who think they have the god given exceptional right to run the planet for their sole benefit at the expense of the rest of the human populace and every other life form.

The overwhelming evidence is that the United States and the collective West have no problem tolerating and supporting expressions and regimes of a fascist, Nazi and Zionist nature if they are deemed essential for the defence of narrow Western oligarchic interests who consider themselves superior to the rest of humanity. Saddam Hussain; Pinochet; Shah of Iran; Suharto; Somoza; the Greek Colonel’s; Zionist Israel; Zelensky; Ngo Dinh Diem; Marcos; the list of example stretches into the horizon and beyond.

Whilst at the same time pursuing the liquidation of any and all alternative theories, currents and political-economic organizations that are not of the Market. The existence of which are not to be tolerated.

That’s Putins “crime”. And if he did not exist, it would be whoever else is not doing as they are told by your fellow toddlers, which you would be banging on about like an unthinking automaton with no agency other than to repeat The Official Narrative mantra because you lack the maturity to think for yourself.

Projecting the mindset you have been indoctrinated with onto others provides no sustainable solution to the realities, Billy.

You would be far better employed in seeking therapy for your Putin Derangement Syndrome. However, f you wish to continue festering in that unreality bubble, that’s your prerogative and also your problem. The real world, along with those who reside in it, is already passing you and your Official Narrative by as the irrelevance you are.

      8. Dave – Are you really that gullible? 😧

Along with anyone else who professes to be on the left and supports the corrupt fascist and wannabe imperialist Putin – You really do need to give your head a bit of a wobble

    1. On what evidence do you argue such ridiculous claims, Billy?

How is arguing for the generic principle of everyone’s right to security and the right to protect – applicable just as much to Russians as to Americans and Europeans; to Russian speaking Slavs with their non-existent constitutional rights in a regime dominated by neo-Nazi ideology as to Palestinians – in any way shape or form an argument in support of Fascism?

Explain your warped logic and rationale with evidence, if you can?

If the Russians or the Chinese were arming the Mexican drug cartels; attacking US citizens in the border region with the US; removing constitutional rights to US citizens in Mexico; stationing missile bases in Mexico that can reach the US capital in ten minutes; lobbing missiles into Texas, New Mexico and California,; and issuing reports that they intended to break up the US into smaller manageable Statelets to access its resources you would, along with the rest of the Collective West elites you shill for, be apoplectic.

How is the expansion of NATO against explicit promises made to the contrary; the siting of missile bases with such short flying time to Russian Cities; the published Rand Report objectives of breaking up the RF to access its resources (backed up by the recorded evidence of US politicians like Lindsey Graham); the constant interference in other peoples elections and insisting on re-runs until the Western Oligarchs get their own puppet candidate elected; the removal of the constitutional rights of Russian-speaking civilians and murderous attacks on them over eight years by fascist thugs sporting nazi tattoos; – all of which have had evidence supplied to you on this site – any different other than by reference to the application of a different set of principles in one case to that of the other?

An exceptionalism based on a double standard reeking with hypocrisy.

This so called “fascist” – for whom you have provided no evidence to substantiate the charge – spent years adhering to the Minsk agreements which public evidence from those in the West who were party to them attests were designed to buy time for the West to arm and train nazi militia in Ukraine in order to invade Russia.

At the end of which, a set of mutually beneficial win-win for everyone security proposals were put forward in December 2021 to avoid this present conflict. Proposals which were outright rejected.

If he disappeared tomorrow, the RF would be following exactly the same policy – most likely more robustly than the manufactured hobgoblin of your fevered imagination.

Where is your evidence to refute all these facts and evidence from the public domain?

These are hardly the actions of someone who wants to take over Europe. On which note, it would be useful to know what the actual position of the Western Oligarch’s is.

Is it that the Russian military is so weak and depleted and its economy collapsing, having to use washing machine chips whilst running out of missiles (for nearly three years now) that it can be easily defeated with a bit more time and effort; or is it that it is strong enough to march uncontested across Europe? Because Western politicians and media are consistently selling us this Schrödinger’s military, industrial and economic capability that both are true at the same time

Even Boris Johnson has, this week, come out publicly and admitted that the UK and US are using the Ukraine in a proxy war against Russia.

On what moral basis and grounds of International Law is your argument that the Western intervention under R2P into Kosovo is different to the eventual Russian intervention into the Donbass Republics after all other avenues had been exhausted?

So far, despite being given numerous opportunities, you have offered nothing to substantiate your claims. Nor have you offered anything which challenges and refutes the evidence presented to you, Billy.

From the standpoint of anyone reading this site and BTL posts, you are all mouth and no trousers.

      Where’s the beef?

      Or should that be Chicken?

  7. Herr Flick
Compared to the Fuhrer Putin is totally trustworthy
Get used to it, the EU and Britain will be members of BRICS before long

    1. Doug – You really do need to give your head a wobble along with anyone else who professes to be on the left and supports the corrupt fascist and wannabe imperialist Putin.
