Petition for new GE because of Labour dishonesty passes 1m signatures – and accelerating

Tens of thousands added every few minutes

A new petition for the Starmer government to call a new general election because of Labour’s dishonesty has passed a million signatures – and is growing by tens of thousands every few minutes as awareness of its existence spreads.

The petition, which calls for a new election because “the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election”, was started four days ago and took three days to pass 100,000 signatures – the level at which the government must ‘consider’ it ‘for debate’. But since yesterday it has taken off, quickly passed a million signatures and continues to accelerate – and is now adding tens of thousands every few minutes as the screenshots below, taken ten minutes apart, demonstrate:

No one should be surprised, of course, that Starmer’s government has started so dishonestly and with such pointless cruelty – he broke every promise he made to Labour members to con them into voting him in as Labour leader and has hounded dissenters, particularly left-wing Jews, out of the membership as he tries to make Labour a party of pliant drones. But clearly a lot of people who hadn’t paid attention before the last general election are doing so now.

Starmer’s and Labour’s approval among the public has seen the sharpest and most rapid collapse of any UK governing party in decades and Labour now sits behind the neo-fascist Reform ‘party’ in some polls.

Keir Starmer may decide to ignore the petition, but with well over a million signatures and climbing so quickly, it may be just as embarrassing for him to ignore it as to schedule it for a parliamentary debate, even if he does so with no intention of acceding to the wishes of so many people despite his clear lack of vision for a better country.

But if it reaches ten million – well over the number of people who voted for Labour in July when Starmer promised vague ‘change’ before going on to perpetuate and even deepen Tory austerity – or more, the cowardly non-leader may just recognise the imperative to at least ‘consider his own future’.

Update: as of 11.25pm 25 Nov, the petition had passed 2.5 million votes.

    1. That was a snapshot at just after midnight on Sunday. Which claims it has gone past the 200k target in six hours.

      This….

      https://petitionmap.unboxedconsulting.com/?petition=700143

…..shows the distribution a few minutes age as the number of signatures now approaches the 2 million mark.

The highest percentage of the spread has increased from 0.518% to 4.76% in the space of about 33 hours.

Just in the time it has taken to write this the number has increased from 1,913,220 to 1,919,212 – just under 6,000 in about ten minutes.

    2. Dead popular, is keef, isn’t he, blert?

Peoplereally quite like him don’t they?

Heard anyone on your local high street extolling the greasy, slimy twunt, recently?

I’ve NEVER had that experience. And with each passing day, I NEVER will.

But hey!! What’s not to like?

  1. So what’s the alternative? Wouldn’t it be better to change the labour leader and it’s cabinet?. Both parties are outgoing each other on awfulness.

      1. This can be seent reflected in the distribution map, where it’s very easy to pick out the major conurbations as the colder spots whereas the hotter spots are outside of the main cities.

  2. WOW. Signatories number has more than doubled in 26 hours!

Pretty soon as many people will have signed the “call a general election petition’ as voted faux-Labour at GE2024. (1-in-5 of the total electorate)
