Patel tried to get UK govt funding for Israeli military’s ‘humanitarian’ work on Golan Heights
New Tory leader Kemi Badenoch has appointed former Home Secretary Priti Patel as Shadow Foreign Secretary. Patel’s attacking of the England football team for taking a knee against racism and her expenses to eyebrow companies are par for the Tory course, but Patel was also forced to resign as International Development Secretary for arranging ‘off-book’ meetings in Israel during her holiday that included a visit to an Israeli ‘humanitarian’ hospital on the illegally occupied Golan Heights.
Patel then tried to obtain UK government funds for the ‘humanitarian’ work – which was exposed as an Israeli military hospital treating wounded Syrian fighters – including ISIS fighters and members of an al-Qaeda affiliate – before sending them back to fight against Syrian president Bashar al-Assad. Both ISIS and al-Qaeda are proscribed terror groups in the UK and aiding them is a criminal offence under terror legislation. This will not backfire on Badenoch or Patel, of course, but Keir Starmer’s regime is abusing the same legislation to target journalists and anti-genocide activists who expose Israel’s war crimes in Gaza.
None of the meetings in question were official. Then-Tory minister Alan Duncan – a target of attempts by the Israel lobby to bring him down – later described Patel, in her dealings with Israel, as ‘corrupt’, ‘deceitful’, ‘compromised’ and ‘quite despicable’.
When Patel’s off-book meetings were exposed, Patel at first tried to claim she had informed the Foreign Office – then under Boris Johnson – about them, but was later forced to admit this was untrue. Now she is shadowing the department she should have informed about her unofficial meetings with a foreign power she then tried to get funding for – while it conducts a genocide of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza, is terror-bombing and attempting to invade Lebanon and trying to provoke all-out international war with Iran – and could end up running it if the Tories get back into government.
