Onlookers shout ‘Shame on you!’ as Prof Haim Bresheeth taken away by Met Police under Terrorism Act after anti-genocide speech
As Skwawkbox has reported, Professor Haim Bresheeth – an Israeli Jew – was arrested on Friday and is still under investigation, after being accused of hate speech under the Terrorism Act 2000 for a speech (video) to an anti-genocide demonstration outside the residence of far-right extremist ambassador Tzipi Hotovely.
Now Skwawkbox can exclusively reveal the arrest itself – part of a campaign of repression and intimidation of pro-Palestinian voices by the Starmer government – and the horror of onlookers, who compared it to the martial law imposed by Israel during the 1990s:
Professor Bresheeth, who is in his seventies, was released the following morning without charge but remains under investigation, according to the Metropolitan Police. Skwawkbox is trying to obtain footage of the arrest of a second man, which witnesses described as done with violence.

Perhaps the Met need a reminder of what real actual terrorism is. They’ll certainly get one if they carry on like this!
The quietly-spoken police officer said “earlier today you made a speech, so you are under arrest under the Terrorism Act 2000”.
The speech in question addressed Israel’s treatment of Palestinians and objected to the nature its “war” in Gaza on them and the many deaths of innocents it has caused.
The Met Police officer actually claims the professor’s words constitutes “hate speech” and necessitates his arrest.
Unbelievable.
I hope the entire speech was recorded and is used in court to defend freedom of opinion, free-speech, peoples right to them both and the wretched misuse of Tony Blair’s Terrorism Act 2000 by the British state.
This is not just anti-democratic. It is a Psy-Op of the worst type deployed by political representatives who are shameless, wicked, psychopaths. Thank you Skwawkbox for reporting it. Few others have or will.

Write to the Commissioner and remind him of the states responsibility under the Genocide convention
Ask him to define what allows him to opt out
Perhaps as Nick Johnson in the New Left Review (Sept/Oct 2023) argues:

And perhaps politics if we ignore the blather is actually very simple?
Some argue the Zionist Occupation Force wants a Greater Israel & to steal the land of Gaza plus more and it’s oil, gas and to build a new canal in The Levant and the Neo-Liberal Capitalist West wants a share of the profits as well as boosting their economies via arms sales, and according to the FT “50% of the USA discretionary budget is on military spending” plus “Arms companies profits are up 30%.”
Some would argue why does the West use violence to achieve its political & economic ends (?) when a Free Independent Palestine from the rivers to the sea (Palestinian intellectuals H.Eid, Edward Said), with the Right of Palestinian Refugees to return, and religious freedom for all of its diverse citizens, could exploit its own resources & build a new canal if it wished to benefit world trade, and hopefully it would be welcome in BRICs.
