Video: Lammy says unhelpful to say Israel committing genocide because not enough people killed

Shameful moment even by the standards of the Starmer government – and a blatant falsehood

Foreign Secretary David Lammy plumbed new depths – even by the standards of the appallingly complicit Starmer government – on Monday when he said in the Commons chamber that it undermined the seriousness of the term to call Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza a genocide, because not enough people have died:

Three genocides formally designated as such by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague since the Genocide Convention was passed in 1951. The Srebrenica massacre, with eight thousand victims, is one – and the ICJ has already found that Israel is ‘plausibly’ committing genocide in Gaza, putting Israel formally on trial for that unspeakable crime. There is no set number to qualify as genocide in the Genocide Convention.

Israel has murdered as many as 200,000 civilians in Gaza, mostly women and children, and is actively imposing starvation on two million who still survive there.

Lammy is a lawyer by profession. He knows better, because he is a lawyer – and because as Shadow Foreign Secretary he spoke to commemorate the Srebrenica genocide:

By providing cover for Israel – as well as through the UK’s active support and supply of weapons – he and his boss are participants and enablers in Israel’s genocide and other war crimes in Gaza and elsewhere.

  1. It beggars belief that a UK Foreign Secretary doesn’t know he’s talking bullshit when he calls the definition of Genocide a numbers game. It’s all about the intent, of which there is abundance. What a grovelling little shit he is to try to sanctify it as an exclusively Jewish experience.

Like the rest of this cabinet, he’s an imposter, manifestly out of his depth, hoping to “fake it till you make it” and everyone can see it. A busted flush inside 6 months. I’d sooner have Liz fucking Truss running the country!

Mate, it’s lammy. Not that the rest of them’d be any better. But just how the effing eff lammy got to where he is today, defies logic.

      1. I assume he’s been taking lessons from the whiny one…….

  2. The scenes from the Gaza hospital from “Sky” were heartbreaking –
with the place effectively trashed and the Dr crying over his dead Son.

Talking about Terrorists – when they have Kahanists in the Israeli
Government designated as such by Israel disgusted with the late
Kahane’s racism. When he spoke in Parliament during his short
period there in the 1990s everyone walked out.

  3. Utterly useless elephantine oaf. (C)lammy’s thicker than f***ing mince; the black Piers Fletcher-Dervish.

    1. The UN Emergency Meeting from We Love Africa:

Iran Confronts USA & Israel at UNSC emergency meeting following Israeli strikes on Iran!

This is how you tell it like it is, Starmer & co.

  4. This man is despicable as is his Zionist leader. Lammy should know better as a human rights lawyer. Genocide is not a numbers game.

    1. Intent/intention. I’ve watched enough crime dramas to realise that ‘intent’ is a (the?) key difference between charges of murder and manslaughter. Surely, the same (intention-ality) applies to ‘geno-cide’ (race-killing)?

Yes, David Lammy, bigger numbers increase witness’ disgust and the perpetrators’ criminality, but only a fool would argue that under a particular threshold (20, 200,000, 2m?) plausible genocide is actually non-existent.

  5. He and his zionist boss are a complete disgrace, but Starmer is so weak, if the tide turn against his position, as it is, slowly throughout the world, you can guarantee, that snake along with his lacky will be quick to jump on the bandwagon. Our only hope now is Trump not getting into power. Kamala current stance blindly follows Bidens, but I am hoping her words that she is not Biden and her presidency will be different, she will begin to open her eyes more towards what is going on in Palestine and Lebanon.

    1. On the contrary, I hope Trump does win. I can think of no better punishment, no outcome sweeter than Starmer having to touch his cap and follow the wishes of President Trump for the next 4 years! Don’t get your hopes up about Kamala. Everybody knows she’s weak and won’t do anything for Palestinians. She’ll make positive noises to keep people guessing right up till polling day, but when the citizens of Wisconsin, with the largest Arab/Muslim population in America, say they’re gonna vote for Trump, you know the game’s up.

      1. Bugger Starmer getting some come-uppance at the hands of a grifting, narcissistic, misogynistic, racist, and demented fascist — a ‘dictator on day 1’. That’s for us to do, here in the UK. The way his lot are going it might not take too long.

Besides, do you honestly think Trump gives a rat’s arse for the Palestinians? He’s as much a pal of Bibi’s as Biden is. And just as likely to start a war with Iran.

No thanks. On balance, I’d rather have Harris than that dangerous chump and his idiotic family. Oh, and that’s not forgetting Vance, Mike Johnson, MTG & maybe even Boebert again — perish the thought! — let alone all the other cronies and hanger’s on.

      2. Michigan.

And by no means all have said they will vote for Trump.

  6. We see you David u despicable odious little man. What u gonna do when the ICJ comes back with exactly that ruling. Are u too thick to understand that numbers of dead have no bearing on the meaning of genocide.

  7. These people, along with their supporters, cheerleaders, and useless idiot excusers, live in their own made up fantasy world and are clearly intent on forcing that alternative reality down everyone’s throat under threat of whatever retribution they feel necessary and appropriate.

Simplicius the thinker succinctly sums up the position here:

    https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/sitrep-102824-russia-unleashes-lightning

So much assurance without even a shred of proof presented.

“It’s actually incredible when you step back a moment and consider how the West lives increasingly in a total fantasy construct. On every global issue or flashpoint, Western media no longer exercises even the barest scruples, instead blanketly reporting the most fantastical tales with zero corroboration. In Iran we’re expected to believe Israel “decimated” the entire Iranian air defense network, countless major labs and buildings, despite zero proof apart from a single grainy satellite photo that shows a slight discoloration somewhere—far less proof than we got from Iran’s much more massive strike on Israeli bases during True Promise 2.0.

In Georgia, Western press reports with shameless authority that the election was ‘stolen’ despite no credible evidence. The entire Western order has at this point in its lurid, terminal panic given up on not only truth, but any and all foundational values that have made Western civilization what it was. Threats, lies, and propaganda are flung with no accountability or attempt at justification; it seems we’ve entered the rapid parabolic singularity point of the ‘post-truth’ era in the West. Just like how the Federal Reserve must now exponentiate its printing cycles just to stave off collapse, Western intelligentsia and its corrupt crony political class must now likewise balloon their brazen lies to infinity just to keep from drowning in them as if the buoyancy of volume will keep them up”.

Like Humpty Dumpty, words mean whatever they want them to mean at any one time to suit convenience.

And this is the only “credible” alternative is it, Billy?

    1. Dave – Your gullibility is your problem, not mine.

      ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      1. Says the gobshite that demanded we vote keef while he’s sat off thousands of miles away.

Tell us genius, if we’re so gullible how is it everything</b[ you were told about the greasy fucker has come to pass; in spite of your: “but we must wait and see, welcome to come back and tell me about it” denialist bollocks?

You’re not even brave enough to reside in the same country you’ve imposed the slimy fucking rodent on, yet apparently we’re the ones here in blighty who are all gullible, suffering the useless twunt.

Insufferable, incompetent, incoherent imbecile fhat y’are.

        Go on, fuck off.

      2. PW – ………….but you’re the one who is supporting Iran, a brutal theocracy.🙄

      3. How very post-modernist* Billy.

        https://strategic-culture.su/news/2024/10/29/a-heroic-preference-for-self-destruction-is-taking-hold-in-israel/

Enlighten us: which bits do you have actual evidence to refute?

The alleged decimation of the Iraqi air defences by the Israel’s perhaps?

Mayhap the evidence free rantings of a fixed election in Georgia?

Or possibly the voodoo economic paradigm of parasitic rentier neo liberalism and it’s helicopter QE money printing?

At least make some token effort to cover up the nakedness of your infantile responses.

All you have offered so far is a big fat nothingburgur. All mouth and no trousers which serves o lying to demonstrate and prove my point for me.

        * “Postmodern thinking has swept God, Nature, and Reason away. The individual replaces everything. Facts are only what he wants them to be … There are only fictions left—but these fictions are also all of reality. Western society thus begins to look very much like an insane asylum. Of course, this is only a collective paranoia: one bomb falls somewhere in our country, and very real realities, which mock our discourses, are destroyed and this philosophy collapses”. – Dr Henri Hude.

Which neatly sums up your limited and meagre offerings, Billy.

If you wish to go down this dead end to oblivion,be our guest. Just don’t expect the grown ups to follow you, son.

      4. “PW – ………….but you’re the one who is supporting Iran, a brutal theocracy”

And your evidence to support both these allegations* is what, Billy?

        * 1. The claim of being Iran being a “brutal theocracy”.
        2. The allegation that PW has supported such a position.

All you’ve offered so far is peurile name calling. Have you nothing to offer than this evidence free post-modernist nonsense of something is so simply because you say it is so?

  8. Belgian MP made me cry. What a passionate speaker! How long, long overdue are such words in the Commons. It is clear that Israel intends to ethnically cleanse Gaza (at least), clear that the US intends to provide the arms, clear that the UK intends to assist and to obfuscate throughout. Is Starmer, even now, working ahead to conjure the words that will be used to extricate the UK and himself at some late date? What a shameful country in which to live!

  9. Kier Calamity Starmer and Foreign Sec Lammy need to have a word with themselves.

    1. They (Starmer/Lammy) defend Israel’s right to implement a pogrom – an organised displacement and massacre of a particular ethnic group in Gaza and the Occupied West Bank.

    2. They (Starmer/Lammy) do not censure or criticise the Knesset when it passes legislation that “outlaws” a 75 year-old UN Relief Agency refusing it access to any occupied territory where Palestinians can be found.

    3. They (Starmer/Lammy) have not halted arms sales to Israel (fewer than 4% of licences were modified or suspended)/

Seriously, are these the type of people Britain wants as its ‘Executive’?

Richard Murphy’s insightful blog (tax research org blog) points out:

We could unequivocally condemn Israeli government action at the UN.

We could halt all arms sales to Israel.

We could sanction Israel, and I think we should.

We could make clear that we walk our talk of concern and take steps to protect the people of Gaza.

We could, and I think we should, suspend Israel’s membership of the UN whilst this continues.

But will Starmer do any such thing? No, of course not.

And will Harris? No, if she is elected.

There is a reason for that. They are enabling the fascist government in Israel to undertake these appalling acts and do not have the will to stop them any more than they will eventually have the will to stop fascism anywhere.

As Tim Snyder would have it, they are surrendering in advance of the onset of oppression, unwilling to do anything to stop it.

Right now, a few million are suffering.

Sometime, it will be many more.

By then, it will probably be too late.

  10. During the troubles over here in the wee 6 one N.Ireland secretary of state talked about an acceptable level of violence. It didn’t really matter that people were getting murdered or maimed just as long as it was “an acceptable level” whatever that was. So its not Genocide because Mr Lammy doesn’t think it high enough? Good lord 50 years on and our rulers still playing with statistics.

  11. I attempted to prosecute Starmer at Wirral Magistrates Court but was tricked by the staff enabling to say the complaint was out of time.

    Here is my complaint.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

As a litigant in person I wish to bring a private prosecution under section 6 of the prosecution of offenders act 1985.

I wish to make a formal complaint against Sir Keir Starmer MP for Holborn and St Pancras, who is also the leader of HM Official opposition the Labour party. He has offices at Labour Party HQ in London and at the House of Commons, London, SW1A OAA.

On the 9th October 2023, Israel’s Defence Minister, Yoav Gallant, said on behalf of the Israeli government:
“I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel. Everything is closed.”

In addition, according to Bloomberg television, 9th October 2023, he said “We are fighting human animals.”
During an interview with Nick Ferarri, of LBC News on 11th October 2023 at the Labour party conference in Albert dock Liverpool, Mr Ferarri posed questions – regarding Israel’s intention to commit grave war crimes, including collective punishment and the withholding of food, water and energy to approximately 2.3 million men, women and children of Gaza -to Mr Starmer.
Mr Ferarri asked Mr Starmer “A siege is appropriate. Cutting off power, cutting off water?” To which Mr Starmer replied “I think that Israel must have, does have, that right. It is an ongoing situation.” (Video evidence here).
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdBU3ufYGTY
I accuse Mr Keir Starmer of a flagrant breach of section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986, i.e.
    Causing harassment, Alarm or Distress
1/ A person is guilty of an offence if he…
    a) Uses threatening words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or
    b) Displays any writing or sign or other visible representation which is threatening within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.
Because his words condoned and encouraged the Israeli government’s illegal war crimes and in effect gave the Israeli government the green light to deprive the population of Gaza food, water and energy, in effect condemning them to death, Mr Starmer’s comments were directed against all the Palestinian inhabitants of the Gaza Strip, which has caused significant alarm and distress to them and has enraged and alarmed the Palestinian population of the UK, many of whom have relatives living in Gaza. The Muslim population, and millions of other UK citizens in the UK and the wider world, are enraged by Mr Starmer’s endorsement of Israel war crimes. Also there are many local councillors who have resigned because of Starmer’s statement.
The International Court of Justice has ruled that the Israeli assault on Gaza is a plausible case of Genocide, with the necessary ‘intent’. The Israeli defence minister’s threats as endorsed by Starmer were presented in evidence at the ICJ.
Because the Palestinians are defined as a national/ethnic group, his comments do have a racially aggravated dimension to them.
I visited two police stations, who said they would record the complaint, but declined to take any action.

  12. I feel that I have been tricked by the Wirral MC into filling in another complaint form on 15th April 2024, when they knew my complaint would be out of time. the WMC officer said, “Thank you for your letter requesting a private prosecution” and “This must be submitted the application to us on the correct form” sic. In my opinion, ‘must’ in this context is an imperative, which in my opinion is wrong (and an abuse of process). Here are two articles refuting WMC Officer of the courts interpretation of the requirements…

    5. A written information is ‘laid’ as soon as it is received in the clerk’s office, even if it is not considered by a clerk or a magistrate until later (R v. Manchester Stipendiary Magistrate ex p. Hill [1983] 1 AC 238). No standard form has to be used. All that matters is that the document sent to the magistrate’s court contains the essential elements of an information about an alleged offence. R v. Kennet Justices ex p Humphrey and Wyatt [1993] Crim. LR 787. https://foregatechambers.co.uk/private-prosecution/

  13. Starmer could not have argued that he did not mean those words since in section 5 Public Order Act the Prosecutor does not need to prove intent [Mens rea]. Starmer should now have had a record.

    1. Lammy just shows how limited he is. he makes up his definitions as he goes. But he falls foul of the fact that others have previously signed off a definition of genocide. and what that ther terror state in the middle east does is genocide. Lammy better accept that. If not now then hopefully before a court akin to the Nüremberg trials.

  14. Trump will win in a Landslide, his supporters will turn out in record numbers, Democrats won’t, a lot will vote Green,
Both Israel and the Yanks are outgunned in the Middle East, their supporters in the region have turned neutral and are all urging a Ceasefire and long term resolution
In return all parties offer recognition and guaranteed security for Israel, Trump would love to take the credit for getting that deal over the line
The Iranians have set the ultimate Red Line, withdraw or face the consequences, the choice is clear, Peace or WWIII
That would be bad for the Trump families business interests, if we were all incinerated

  15. PW – ………….but you’re the one who is supporting Iran

Oh aye? And where’s the evidence to back it up?

  16. The late, great Bernie Saunders must be spinning in his grave, knowing that his former protégé Lammy has the best principles money can buy….
