Morales survives murder attempt after calling for ties with Israel to be severed and Bolivia joins BRICS

Bullets miss left-wing former president by inches, driver wounded. Morales accuses government of involvement in attack

Evo Morales and the shattered rear window of his vehicle

Left-wing former Bolivian president Evo Morales has narrowly survived an assassination attempt in which at least fourteen bullets hit his vehicle, wounding his driver. Morales says at least one bullet narrowly missed his head.

Last year, Morales called for Bolivia to sever all ties with Israel over its genocide in Gaza, an outcome that followed shortly afterward. The assassination attempt comes just days after Bolivia joined the BRICS political-economic grouping that is thriving as a rival to the US-centred axis. Morales has accused his former ally, current president Luis Arce, of being behind the attack.

According to Latin America news editor Camila Escalante, Bolivia’s rural regions – a strong Morales’ support base – has mobilised to Morales’s defence, paralysing major roads:

  1. Off topic:

From KernowDamo. Concentration camps being planned for Palestinians in Gaza, and to be run by CIA specialist operatives, are now to be called ‘gated communities’ — and similar UK personnel may likely join them in the future!

  2. I see the ICC prosecutor has now had allegations abut his conduct, shortly after asking for the arrest of Netanyahu. Maybe Mr Morales should look elsewhere for his near miss?

  3. Seems assassination is 2024’s go to problem solver.

Oh, and on the subject of violence. Any ideas on why Ricky Jones (slit their throats) is out in bail? Mike Amesbury has a post on his social media about prison time for violent disorder.

Some friendly advice, if you’re off to see someone from labour, be on your guard and don’t keep your hands in your pockets.

  4. No proof yet, but the likelihood of US involvement in this is immense. Thank heaven Evo Morales survived.

FWIW – note to Rachel Reeves : Morales’ first year in office ended with Bolivia having no fiscal deficit for the first time in 30 years. During financial capitalism’s 2008 haemorrhage Bolivia maintained the world’s highest recorded level of economic growth, her currency boomed and official poverty levels plummeted…

    1. Gosh, who would’ve thought! An alternative economic policy – a la Graeber & Hudson – for the many, not the few put into practice.

The UK oligarchy certainly dodged a bullet there.

      But for how long?

    1. An event which serves -at least for those who can do joined up thinking – to highlight the inconsistencies of the application of the law.

Some real breaking news would be equivalent sentences being handed out to those currently involved in aiding and abetting Israeli war crimes. Which shows a far greater degree of legal contempt than anything Yaxley-Lennon could ever dream of achieving.

Come back to us when the likes of Starmer, Lammy, and Jarvis et al have the law applied to them.
