Lebanon rejects US-Israel demand to surrender sovereignty

US-Israeli envoy Hochstein and fanatically pro-Israel German foreign minister try to ‘intimidate’ Lebanese into giving Israel free reign and dropping Gaza ceasefire demand

US envoy Amos Hochstein against a backdrop of Israel’s bombing of Lebanese homes

Lebanon has rejected a ‘ceasefire proposal’ put forward by US-Israeli envoy Amos Hochstein that amounts to a demand to surrender sovereignty to Israel.

The US sent Israel-born Hochstein, a national and energy security adviser to US president Joe Biden and a former IDF soldier, to Beirut with what Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar described as an ‘offer of surrender’ demanding that Lebanon sign up to a revised version of UN resolution 1701 that would involve Lebanon giving up control of several kilometres of territory north of the Litani river, which the Israeli right has long coveted – withdrawing its forces to allow Israel to operate militarily in southern Lebanon and to allow its air forces to operate freely over all Lebanese territory at will, as well as requiring Lebanon to abandon its demand for an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza as a condition of any ceasefire and to accept the placement of foreign troops along its border with Syria.

Hochstein reportedly sent messages to Lebanese government officials telling them that Lebanon is:

not in a position to discuss much, and that its failure to accept the proposal means that the war will continue and will be more severe.

Hochstein was accompanied by German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock, a fanatically pro-Israel politician who said, as Israel burned injured civilians to death in Gaza, that Israel would not ‘shy away’ from its support of Israel and that civilians were not protected by international law if ‘Hamas’ was near them. Baerbock repeated the same chilling threat to Lebanese civilians, even though Israeli forces are the ones that have been shown to actually use innocents as ‘human shields’, telling the Lebanese government that:

The deal would have given Israel control of territory it has so far been unable to take militarily, incurring heavy losses and being repeatedly repulsed. A Lebanese official told Al-Akhbar that Hochstein ‘came to intimidate and spread terror’:

Hochstein came to intimidate and to spread terror, and he was clear in everything he said that his country and Israel refuse to return to Resolution 1701 in its current form. He said explicitly that this formula is a thing of the past.

Nabih Berri, the Amal-based speaker of the Lebanese parliament, told Hochstein that Lebanon rejects any amendments to 1701 and that the US needed to find ways to make Israel respect it. Later the same day, Israel dropped heavy bombs on residential areas in Amal, a move described by Jewish Grayzone journalist Max Blumenthal as the IDF ‘mafia enforcers’ punishing those who refuse to bow to its demands. Israel has violated resolution 1701 more than 30,000 times since it was put in place in 2006.

Journalist Steve Sweeney reports on the continued bombing of homes and newspaper offices

Israel continues to bomb civilians in Beirut and other residential areas, as it suffers heavy losses for little gain on the ground in southern Lebanon.

    1. How did Lebanese newspapers deal with Hochstein’s visit and the conditions it entails?

      https://dearborn.org/preview/how-did-lebanese-newspapers-deal-with-hochsteins-visit-and-the-conditions-it-entails-62066

“According to the information available to the newspaper, Resolution 1701, which Lebanon adheres to as it is, will be disputed with Hochstein, as his administration insists on introducing additional amendments, most notably, regarding the mission of UNIFIL, and giving it additional powers that allow it to monitor and raid any suspicious site without coordination with the Lebanese army. ….

…..In practice, as expressed by MP Jamil El-Sayed, the American envoy is coming to see whether the Israeli aggression has led to Lebanon’s acquiescence to the American and Israeli conditions for amending Resolution 1701 to place Lebanon, by land, sea and air, under military, security and political guardianship. The enemy’s visit to Hochstein was paved by a night of heavy shelling on the southern suburb.President Berri provided Lebanon’s answer to what the American envoy will carry, specifically on two points: amending the resolution ١٧٠١ which is unacceptable, and electing a president under fire, which is also unacceptable.”

    2. Annalena Baerbock had been a co-leader of The Greens in Germany until 2022, but, since 2021 when she became Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs shown herself to be an intensely pro-establishment right-wing neo-con. Memory/identity problems??

The thing is, as a toddler, a young girl, she lived in Nuremberg (Nürnberg) the place where the Nazis staged their propaganda, their Nürnberg Rallies and where- when the war crimes, genocide and lebensraum killing were all done – where the Allies, the Russians, Brits and Americans, mounted their International Tribunal into Nazi war crimes and genocide .

Annalena Baerbock – along with Churchill and Roosevelt’s successors – seem not to remember it clearly. Some do, of course, but they’re practically terrorists.

  1. The sociopaths running the Collective Worst appear to have moved on from the concept of “collateral damage” and are now openly practicing a more extreme version of “assisted dying” than that practiced in the West.*

*As seen in this example from a letter in the Irish Times:

    https://gettr.com/post/p3cqyf3828c

“This Irish Times letter had quite an impact on me.

“As a partner of a person living with motor neurone disease, I would like to share with you some of the paradoxes

in how our health system deals with it. According to the recently accepted assisted dying report, my husband would be eligible for fast-tracked assisted dying. However, according to the HSE, he is not sick enough for a medical card; we had to fight for one. He is not ill enough for a primary medical certificate. He does not qualify for a disabled parking disc even though he can only walk a few metres. We don’t qualify for grants to adapt the house. Can someone please explain how we cannot qualify for assisted living but we automatically qualify for assisted death?””

Everyone in the 99% are a target in one way or another for the 1%.

  2. 27 years ago my mums death could not have been more humane, civilised and peaceful, we were all there and we were all told when it would happen
2 years ago my dad’s death was an utter relief from the suffering inflicted by the NHS insisting on keeping him alive at all costs, it was grotesque and lasted over 18 months
At one stage he stopped taking all his meds in a bid to end his suffering and briefly for a couple of weeks he felt better, turns out there had been no review of what he was taking for donkies years
They make a fortune out of making you sick and they make a lot more by keeping you alive when all quality of life has long since gone
Every human bean is now a profit centre, a cash cow, for the Kleptocracy

    1. Precisely Doug. Whatever method is applied, the objective is always the same. The 99%, wherever they are in the world, are merely a means to an end for the Western based neo-feudal Oligarchy.

And, as can be seen here, there are always what Malcolm X referred to as “the house slave” trying to excuse them and doing their damnedest to shout down any opposing narrative which applies context and joins the dots.

  3. https://steelcityscribblings.uk/wp/2024/10/27/3-sunday-shorts-on-the-middle-east/

“What would you think of a nominal – however risibly so – third party broker offering your country a way out of its suffering, at the hands of a neighbouring state, by way of unconditional surrender?

When this “broker” is supplying the bombs, planes and missiles to inflict that suffering, and has done so on no fewer than six previous occasions?

When the neighbouring state backed unconditionally by this “broker” makes rabidly clear its plan to swallow your country in its entirety, on the basis of a God’s promise written 2500 years ago?

And when the envoy this “broker” sends to deliver its “peace deal” was born in said neighbouring state, and served in its armed forces?”

  4. US/srael et al are digging ever deeper holes to disappear in due to their, in my opinion, delusional functioning. They are simply not a full shilling in my view.

      1. Interesting points by the retired General & refreshing to hear a US critical thinker.
And the first casualty of a conflict is always the truth.
Yes too instead of Lightweight Israeli & Western politicians we need heavyweight statesman & women who would dial things down & secure a Peace.
Oh & perhaps the Lumpen Green Minister, as parts of the German economy are really struggling, is driven by the fact that arms companies like Rhinemetal’s orders are up by £46b (FT). 200,000 Palestinians and others now slaughtered by Israel for profits as the West wants a share so turns a blind eye as it is complicit in Genocide and should face the ICJ’s Justice.
        Ceasefire Now & Peace.
A political solution – One Democratic Multi-Ethnic State of Palestine from the rivers to the sea & The Right of Palestinian Refugees To Return.
Then a Free Palestine could exploit is own resources, and hopefully join BRICs then benefit world trade.

  5. Bärbock should go home and stay out of it. Her cosying up to srael and the us is an embarrassment to all peace-loving people in Germany and also unacceptable. To threaten the lebanese people to get them to surrender sovereignty to Israel is totally out of order.

    1. Yup Sebine. Until 2 years ago she was (a co) leader of the Greens, today she warmongering for Harris/Trump/Israel. Hardly anyone under 35 in Germany intends to vote for her ever again.

She’s as *ucked-up in Green terms as Skier Starmer is in Labour.

      1. She has either lost her green principles or is completely powermad or both. But she is seen as an ardent srael supporter and many of those who voted her in, feel betrayed. The entire Ampel- coalition is hanging in there by their nails. Too many egos, too little politics.

  6. An interesting development, time will tell if this is more than PR spin

Gallant Calls for ‘Painful Concessions’ – Israel Faces Mounting Losses in Gaza, Lebanon
    October 27, 2024 News
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant called on Sunday for “painful concessions” to secure the release of captives held in the Gaza Strip.
“Not every objective can be achieved through military means alone; force is not the answer to everything,” Gallant said at a memorial day for those killed in a Hamas attack last year.
“When it comes to fulfilling our ethical duty of bringing hostages home, painful concessions will be required,” he added.
The defense minister acknowledged that the ongoing Gaza war was “complex and unprecedented in its challenges.”
Gallant claimed that Israel has achieved “unprecedented victories” on all fronts, “struck our enemy, and created a new security reality around us”.
However, Gallant’s remarks came amid Israeli army announcements that 88 soldiers were injured in the last 48 hours in Lebanon and 22 soldiers were killed over the past week.

    1. You should listen to Scott Ritter in DH’s 6.44pm post above. Ritter’s describing Israel’s inability to see their wars (Gaza and Lebanon/West Bank) as anything other than ‘Greater-Israel-or-die fights. Hostages. they’re just proverbial sausages, ‘easy come, easy go’.
Gallant suddenly admitting Israel manpower losses doesn’t feel right, does it? Thing is, nobody knows what’s bluff and what’s blunder. On-the-ground journalism isn’t a part of this war. Al-Jazeera and the likes of Palestine Chronicle com is, wishful thinking aside, tall we’ve got.

      1. Exactly, qwertboi:

        https://strategic-culture.su/news/2024/10/27/a-stunning-de-capitation-the-netanyahu-madness/

As former UK diplomat Alistair Crooke observes, quoting James Kroeger [whose provided link in the piece seems to be ‘unavailable’ on Twitter/X]…..

“Gallant has promised that Israel’s strike on Iran will be “lethal, precise and especially surprising”, adding that Iran “won’t understand what happened to it, or how”.

        – Alistair Crooke

“what if cunning Israel, after accepting America’s assistance in an operation to deliver a conventional ‘bunker buster’ bomb attack on the Supreme Leader, decides on its own, to also deliver a tactical or strategic nuke on Tehran that completely devastates Iran’s chain of command?”

“Understand, Israel’s intent is not to avoid an all-out war with Iran, but to ignite one & using a nuke on Tehran would do just that. 100% guaranteed. Bibi understands that after such an attack, if Iran responds by attacking Israel with everything it’s got, he’ll be able to get Congress to pass a Declaration of War vs Iran”.

“MSM and the State Dept [together with Congress] would be marshalled first, to deny that nukes were used, and then to make emotional excuses for why Israel needed to use its nukes “to defend itself”. The theme they’ll endlessly repeat: Poor Israel, threatened with annihilation by terrorists, resorted to the only weapons it had left to defeat the evil it was facing …”.

        – James Kroeger

““Madness? Yeah. Netanyahu ‘madness’” … Yet, Gallant’s enigmatic “lethal, precise and especially surprising: Iran won’t understand what happened to it, or how” – odd wording fits neatly with this Kroeger thesis.

Big unknown: Will the Pentagon be able to take a stand and refuse to comply? Indeed the Pentagon consistently has opposed all-out war between the U.S. and Iran.

Why? All the war ‘games’ played over successive years have resulted in America losing.”

        – Alistair Crooke

        ————————————————————-

And the reason the US and the Collective Worst is losing the plot is because no one is allowed to do joined up thinking anymore. Context is verboten. As we have seen above on this forum from bthe usual useless idiot suspect.

  7. The Yanks gave Israel a temporary reprieve by refusing to support their attack on Iran
Trump simply needs to say to the Lobby after the election, he is saving Israel from itself by cutting off arms supplies
