Labour Cabinet ministers – by definition Starmer-approved right-wingers, as Starmer doesn’t tolerate any independent thought anywhere near his front bench – have written to Keir Starmer in a panic over the extent of the public spending cuts Chancellor Rachel Reeves is planning in her budget next month.
The letter – an unusual step in a normal government, let alone in Starmer’s clamped-down version – says that the cuts are not ‘politically feasible’ and will lead to Labour breaking its manifesto promises. Starmer’s chief of staff Morgan McSweeney, an author of the sabotage campaign that saw Labour lose in 2019 and toppled Jeremy Corbyn, then conned Labour members into voting for Starmer on the basis of leadership promises that were immediately binned, has told them that they will have to politically sell the (completely nonsensical in a country with a sovereign currency, as Reeves well knows) idea that the cuts are about investment.
The ‘Freeze and Starver’ cuts jamboree – an intensification of lethal Tory austerity that comes on top of completely unnecessary decisions (they’ll cost more than they save or save almost nothing) already announced that will keep 1.5 million poor children hungry, kill at least 4,000 pensioners each winter and have already tanked Starmer’s and Labour’s public approval and the confidence of financial markets to historic lows – is apparently too much even for some of Starmer’s most reliable acolytes.

We don’t need to wait for the budget in two weeks, Billy, to know that, barring a 180 degree U-turn, pensioners will not be getting Winter Fuel Allowance to cope with the self-inflicted increases (courtesy of our sociopathic elites) in gas and electric energy bills – which have just increased and will go up again in January to keep Starmer’s lobbyist paymasters rolling in the clover.
Nor do we need to wait two weeks for the budget to know how many kids are going to school hungry every morning (fully one third in the nearest school to my location).
