Spain, Ireland ask EU to halt trade deal with Israel over human rights abuses

At least some prime ministers know how to stand up to genocidal regime

Irish PM Simon Harris and Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez

The Spanish and Irish governments have asked the European Union to suspend the ‘EU-Israel Association Agreement’ (EUIAA) trade deal because Israel’s genocide in Gaza and attacks on Lebanon are in breach of the agreement’s human rights clause.

Spanish PM Pedro Sanchez has called on other EU nations to respond urgently to the two countries’ application for the suspension over Israel’s murderous attacks on Gaza and Lebanon after months of talks with other EU member states about a review of the EUIAA, which has been in place since 2000 despite Israel’s constant and flagrant disregard for human rights of occupied Palestinians and their Lebanese neighbours.

Meanwhile France and Spain, like Ireland, continue to reject Israel’s demand for the UN peacekeeping troops they have stationed in Lebanon to be withdrawn. Israel has wounded a number of the UN soldiers and has fired repeatedly on its bases in an attempt to intimidate them into withdrawing or remaining in their outposts rather than monitor its actions.

The UK government has finally joined several other nations in calling on Israel to stop attacking UN peacekeepers, but has taken no practical action and neither Keir Starmer nor his Foreign Secretary David Lammy have so far even mentioned Israel’s latest atrocities in Gaza, burning families to death in their tents last night and murdering people queuing today for desperately-needed food aid.

  1. Stuffed gerbil thornberry was on ch4 news earlier about israels shithousery.

No idea just what corbyn must’ve been thinking when he appointed the rodent as shadow foreign sec, because it may as well have been lammy in that interview.

    1. When I see the junta, albeit unintentionally, I regret vomiting in the past. It could have been stored and expelled whenever and wherever I see or hear them squak.

  2. Great some countries leaders are thinking critically for themselves and pursuing an independent foreign policy unlike most of the Western Lightweight Lumpen drones who jump to the USA tune.
And they shouldn’t be exploring a trade deal with an Occupation Force.

  3. I cannot understand this slavish agreement with US Policy!

It is obvious that Biden, whatever his initial intentions is
a spent force, no doubt exhausted after his time in high office.

Netanyahu is well aware of this, which is why he continues to
defy the UN and pursue his insane violence and gallop into
Bloody War and Horror like the One Horseman of the Apocalypse.

Margaret Thatcher had no compunction in an embargo on Arms
for Israel and warned the US about unconditional support for that
    Country.
