Irish peacekeeping troops face down IDF in Lebanon

Invasion force withdraws from Unifil outpost

The Israeli army has withdrawn from its position surrounding Irish peacekeeping troops manning the Unifil (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) outpost at Maroun al-Ras, which it had ‘swarmed’ following an attempt to order the Irish garrison to leave their position, where they are stationed to monitor the actions of Israeli and Lebanese forces. Video from the base had shown missiles landing just outside the perimeter while the Israeli force effectively tried to use the Irish soldiers as human shields.

A US ‘peace adviser’ had called on Israel to carpet-bomb and napalm the garrison and the whole surrounding area.

Praising the soldiers’ courage, Sinn Fein MP Chris Hazzard said:

Israel’s coercion of Irish UN Peacekeepers to vacate their position at Marun ar Ras in southern Lebanon has failed Facing down the aggressive Israeli provocation has ensured the invading forces could not establish a strategic base, and have now fallen back.

Free Lebanon

Irish left-wing political commentator @ToryFibs said that the troops deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for their refusal to abandon the Lebanese civilians in the nearby village of Haroun al-Ras:

The Irish army stared down the turrets of Israeli tanks for 7 long days. They refused to abandon their posts. They refused to abandon the villagers. They refused to abandon Lebanon. They faced down the most brutal army in the world. Fearlessly. They deserve a Nobel Peace Prize

Israel has killed approaching three thousand Lebanese civilians in its renewed assault and has been exposed dropping radioactive munitions on Beirut, as it seeks to extend its Gaza genocide into Lebanon.

    1. Yes, agreed!

Still, haven’t heard anything, about this incident, from the UK MSM. Perhaps I missed it, among the other bollocks they try to feed us.

  1. The Nobels are being awarded right now. I expect the Peace prize is to come, hence Toryfibs’ timely recommendation. Heroes indeed.

  2. I hope the Irish troops get the next Nobel for Peace. They truly deserve it. Well done Ireland!!

Gaza update: UN commission finds war crimes in Israeli attacks

Israel has perpetrated a concerted policy to destroy Gaza’s healthcare system as part of a broader assault on Gaza, committing war crimes and the crime against humanity of extermination with relentless and deliberate attacks on medical personnel and facilities, the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel said in a new report today.

The commission also investigated the treatment of Palestinian detainees in Israel and of Israeli and foreign hostages in Gaza since 7 October 2023 and concluded that Israel and Palestinian armed groups are responsible for torture and sexual and gender-based violence.

“Israel must immediately stop its unprecedented wanton destruction of healthcare facilities in Gaza,” said Navi Pillay, Chair of the Commission. “By targeting healthcare facilities, Israel is targeting the right to health itself with significant long-term detrimental effects on the civilian population. Children in particular have borne the brunt of these attacks, suffering both directly and indirectly from the collapse of the health system.”
