Hastings District Palestine Solidarity Campaign [HDPSC], Hastings Friends of Al Mawasi and Hastings Jews for Justice have released a joint statement calling on local leaders to condemn Israel’s massacre in Al Mawasi last night, where it again bombed refugees in tents and killed at least nineteen people, and to act immediately to stop ‘the ongoing genocide’.

An emergency demonstration has been called at 6pm this evening outside the council;s offices at Muriel Matters House and every Hastings Borough Councillor has been invited, as well as the new Labour MP for Hastings & Rye, Helena Dollimore.

The statement reads:

We call on all our local leaders to condemn Israel’s horrifying massacre in Al Mawasi last night and to act immediately to stop the ongoing genocide.

There is no justification for dropping 2,000 bombs on displaced families sheltering in tents in a ‘safe zone’ after 11 months of terror and starvation.

Bombs so powerful they obliterated whole families in an instant and left 7 metre craters in the sand.

Bombs dropped from F-35 fighter jets for which the UK supplies parts.

For the last three years the people of Hastings have developed close cultural, educational and friendship links with the people of Al Mawasi.

We cannot stand by while our friends are massacred in cold blood.

We demand action. We demand accountability.

We demand an end to British complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Apartheid Israel’s reign of terror on the Palestinian people must end NOW.

MP Helena Dollimore and Hastings Borough Council must condemn these atrocities and make representations to the Foreign Office to end arms sales to Israel and impose sanctions now. They must also demand divestment from Israeli companies and those complicit in the illegal occupation and genocide in Palestine.

People of conscience in Hastings and around the world have had enough of this slaughter.

We are sickened, enraged and determined to do everything in our power to stop any more innocent lives being taken. We demand our leaders do the same.’

  1. Geneva convention does not apply to Israel USA /UK and rest of the west what we are seeing now is sickening beyond belief

  2. The “most moral army in the world; going out of their way to prevent civilian deaths”

    Part (insert four-figure number here).

And STILL they’re given carte-blanche. *scratches head*

  3. We must support the cry from Hastings PSC to end this atrocious mass murder.
    Israel is a pariah state.
Our country’s inaction places us in the dock beside them.

  4. Perhaps Gramsci was right “The Age of Monsters” and the US/Israel & most of the West seem to be comfortable in supporting military options for profits so hope the ICJ takes note, & arms companies orders are booming-BAE orders up by £15b in last 6 months, Rhinemetal, Germany £48.6b (FT).
Instead of feeding the Merchants of Death a peaceful approach could have seen a Free Multi-Ethnic Democratic State of Palestine from the rivers to the sea exploiting its own resources to support its diverse citizens & if it chose to build a new canal this would also benefit world trade.
    Yours in Peace.
