Liverpool anti-fascist counter-protest WILL go ahead at Asylum Link centre tomorrow

Merseyside Asylum Link issues updated statement

Earlier today, Skwawkbox reported that Asylum Link Merseyside (ALM) had asked local supporters not to come to the centre to oppose a planned neo-nazi anti-refugee riot tomorrow evening. But the group has now put out a an update clarifying its position – and the anti-fascist rally will go ahead.

The updated position is that ALM is not opposing a counter protest against the fascists. The intention of the fascists to mobilise against asylum centres and immigration lawyers around the UK and opposing such racist hate is vital.

Those attending from unions and community groups should bring their banners. Racist rioters are not welcome in Liverpool.

  1. 1. Will the unions stump up any legal fees for the defence of anyone arrested from the counter protest?

    2. Have the unions any plans to withdraw funding from labour MPs, the likes of that one from Tamworth, or the defence secretary, both of whom have made inflammatory comments (about asylum seekers being in hotels) which have essentially been the assumed green light for attacks against asylum seeker hostelries?

  2. I see the fascists are targeting immigration lawyers next….

And you’ll get the same reaction (a letter expressing outrage with NO apology or any referral to any previous comments) from patel & braverman (both the progeny of immigrants themselves, no less) as you did from that Tamworth MP.

    ‘Hotel accommodations**’ according to labour.

    ‘Lefty lawyers’ say the toerags.

‘Everyone who doesn’t buy our bogroll’ say the heil and the murdochs

**Who the absolute fuck goes to Tamworth for a holiday/b> for complete fucks sake? Blind, deaf, anosmic masochists?

The local MP said people do. And they elected it? Dafuqs the matter with people?

  3. Yes we have to counter protest but good discussion today with socialist friend as we gave out Palestine Solidarity Campaign leaflets in my city as we do weekly (we have given out 4,200 over the last 6 months) but we were concerned that we are not in control of the agenda re the Far Right in the UK and that this is impacting on our work for Palestine.
For example a Peace for Palestine March was cancelled in my city on Saturday because of them being nearby.
Some argue Mossad has its fingers all over the Far Right actions funding (alongside USA Far Right billionaires) the Far Right influencers who are egging on the lumpen Far Right shock troops here (including the gullible fellow travellers).
Someone once said that the Zionists are notorious at tying individuals and groups down (having to defend themselves or in this case having to defend Black & Asian people+refugees & asylum seekers) “And every day we are not talking about Palestine is a victory for them.”
So we on the Left and all those who are on the side of Palestinians have to multi-task, yes have counter protests against the Far Right but still have Saturday marches for Palestine even if these are smaller. And as well as counter protests try to do other things for the cause of Palestine weekly so we’re in control.
We need to talk about Palestine every day, and I believe we are winning the propaganda war, whilst also standing alongside diverse citizens. And at the counter protests the police need to police the Far Right in greater numbers (funny how they found enough police during the miners strike & now do at large Left demos).
We need to step back brothers and sisters and think critically what’s going on here in the UK and in Palestine and how we address both and try to regain the agenda.
    Solidarity.

  4. TwoTierKier is really showing his position with these events.

Compare his response on George Floyd to what’s happened over the last week.

  5. The slack-jawed haven’t shown up, according to the beeb.

    Reporting from Liverpool

Hundreds of people are outside an Asylum Link office in Liverpool to support refugees and immigrants.

The windows of the centre had been boarded up ahead of an anticipated protest tonight by far-right groups in the wake of the Southport stabbings.

But so far there’s no sign of right-wing demonstrators nor of any violence.

People have been chanting that refugees are welcome here and holding up banners opposing fascism.

Police have blocked off the road at both ends to keep people safe on the road
