Gaza is STILL the issue – pro-Israel far-right’s terrorism must not hide it

Fascists must be defeated, but Israel-supporting – and funded – extremist right is knocking Israel’s continuing mass murder of Palestinian civilians off the screens and out of the headlines. Is the timing coincidental?

Gaza is still the issue – and must remain so until Israel’s genocide against Palestinians is ended and Palestinians have full freedom and human rights.

The UK is facing a wave of violence by right-wing extremists well known to be close to, and sometimes funded by, hardline pro-Israel groups. Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, who styles himself ‘Tommy Robinson’, has been funded by the Israel lobby and, as Jewish anti-fascist campaigner Tony Greenstein has demonstrated at length, the far right and pro-Israel fanatics have often been so close as to be almost indistinguishable:

Robinson, an anti-Muslim hardliner who has been funded by US pro-Israel groups, said he would fight for Israel and once posed proudly with a machine gun atop an occupation force tank, is hiding abroad while the thugs rampage through our towns and cities. As his supporters were setting fire to hotels housing refugees, he unironically complained at his holiday hotel being publicised.

But he found time to do an interview for Israeli TV station Channel 13 in which he claimed that British people ‘stand with Israel’, that anti-genocide marchers are spreading hate and that Palestinians would be ‘coming straight for Europe’ if Israel fails to kill them in Gaza:

The far right is instinctively antisemitic – but also admires Israel’s apartheid as a model for the kind of discrimination they would like to apply in the UK – and the current campaign of terrorism across the UK is serving to push Israel’s ongoing slaughter of Palestinian civilians, predominantly women and children, out of the headlines and off UK screens and even social media.

Given the close links between the British far right and Israel and its lobbyists, it may not be coincidence that the timing of the rioting as Israel, which has murdered almost 200,000 Palestinians since 7 October, continues to bomb refugees in tents and to destroy aid intended to alleviate the famine imposed by its blockade of Gaza.

But whether the distraction is by design or coincidence, Gaza and the lives of the people of Palestine are still the issue and while left-wing activists and media must defeat the fascists, we must not let our attention and our voices be sidetracked.

Yes, “the wrong type of Jew” is not just a hierarchy-of-racism-centrist-Labour idea, it’s at the core of current (opportunistic) far-right thinking. Jews are bad unless they’re racist apartheid practitioners – then they’re (not quite, but as good as) one of us.

Starmer, the CAA, Tommy Robinson and Benjamin Netanyahu have more in common than what divides them. It’s called zionism and an authoritarian bent.

  2. Birds of a feather flock together, Yaxley-Lennon knows alies when he sees them.

I dare say there are some coincidence theorists out there who will tell us there is no connection.

(The term ‘coincidence theorist’ was coined by the late John Judge:

  4. Yaxley Lennon was on prime time Israeli TV telling them if they don’t stop them, it’ll be Europe next.

Apparently someone was paying him £10k a month. By whom and for what I wonder? Self defence? Settlement advice? Hmm

  5. Don’t take the bait
Let Israel and the Far Right in this country destroy themselves live on the Tellybox, there for the World to witness and document
Then pursue the fuckers from here to Kingdom come for their crimes against Humanity
The hard truth is you don’t want Criminal elements taking advantage like in 2011, guess which communities will be demonised on the 6 o’clock news
