Another Starmer u-turn – UK WILL now try to stop ICC issuing arrest warrants for Israeli war criminals

Yet another betrayal over Gaza – and another demonstration of complicity in Israel’s war crimes

In another huge betrayal of the two million Palestinians facing genocide, torture, ethnic cleansing and forced transfer at the hands of Israel’s occupation regime – and the latest in a string of u-turns or outright lies – Keir Starmer has said that the UK will not withdraw its objection to International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan’s request to issue arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defence minister Yoav Gallant.

Israeli newspaper Maariv reports that British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who visited Israel almost as soon as Labour was elected thanks to the fascist Reform party eating Tory votes, has given assurances to the Israeli regime that the UK will maintain its objection to Khan’s application. Starmer had originally indicated that the Labour government would drop its attempt to block the issuance of the warrants and would allow international law to take its proper course.

Israel has murdered as many as 190,000 civilians in Gaza, maimed far more and its illegal blockade is imposing famine on 1.9 million Palestinians, with women and children particularly targeted, while those taken captive face rape and sexual torture. Starmer, a ‘long-time servant of the British security state’, makes much of his past as a human rights lawyer, but is showing his true colours. Lammy has rightly been called an apologist for genocide. Both men have accepted large donations from pro-Israel lobbyists.
