Labour starts term with massive war boost

Starmer shows his priorities – and they are those of the ‘forever war’ Establishment, not ordinary people

The Starmer government has begun its term with a huge programme of spending on war.

Labour, in less than a week in office, has spent billions on war and committed to at least £87bn of government spending on weapons – and has greenlit Ukraine’s use of UK weapons in direct assaults within Russian territory, a massive gamble bringing the UK directly into risk of war:

Starmer still refuses to end the cruel and utterly pointless ‘two-child cap’ on benefits, which costs the UK around £38bn a year to continue, yet is prepared to spend tens of billions on weapons and to put the UK on the precipice of war while brown-nosing to the US, supporting genocidal Israel and declaring support for the US economic war on China. Meanwhile, his main health spokesman is planning to throw open the NHS to even greater privatisation and his chancellor has grinningly said there is ‘very little money’ to do anything worthwhile.

Starmer’s priorities are clear – and they are clearly the priorities of the warmongering Establishment, not those of the tens of millions in the UK who need real change.

  1. The alternative is capitulating to the corrupt wannabe imperialist ‘war criminal’ Putin who is spending a massive proportion of Russia’s GDP on the illegal war that he started.

    1. We won’t be capitulating to anything because it’s not our war and the only danger comes from needling Russia , you sad cliché. The corrupt wannabe imperialist ‘war criminal’ in this scenario is Keir Starmer. NATO is the biggest threat to world peace, but the next few months will decide it’s/our fate. Provided we’re all still here when Trump takes office, their game will be up. That will be the only silver lining to the Trump cloud.

We just have to survive till then…

    2. …The alternative is capitulating to the corrupt…

      1) We’re not at war.
      2) We’ve just been told we’re broke.
      3) The corrupt are already in Britain and they ain’t Russian.

That GDP increase by the largest country in the world means they’re spending 50% more a year than Saudi Arabia, or just 20% of what the yanks blow each year (how does it feel being told to get off your island by the ally yanks?)

P.S. You’ve already lost. And badly too.

P.P.S. Apart from Falklands skirmish, when has Britain fought anything defensive since WW2?

    3. The actual facts are diametrically opposite to that of the discredited propaganda you are spouting Billy.

As attested by Western/NATO politicians, Western oligarch controlled organisations such as the OSCE, and even the available record from within the Western mainstream as has been previously spelled out for you on numerous occasions.

What’s it like being a puppet for the parasitic oligarchy? Does it pay well or are you just a willing useless idiot?

      1. Dave Hansell, did you know the US is about to dump numerous Nuclear Missiles at Molesworth?

The US is fine, they have quite a few minutes before they all get vapourised. As for us, it’s literally all over very quickly. We are first on the target list.

We are being used as a proxy target by the US and Starmer is loving it. Maybe that’s why our friendly Goat Lover is in the Caribbean, away from it all.

  2. Is there a genuine threat? Because if there was arming the military on its own only serves the armaments industry and career militarists. It certainly does not do much for the ordinary citizen.
Since the corruptions of Blatcherism our food production and manufacturing has been outsourced to foreign sweatshop economies. Obviously there is a social cost to exporting those well paid jobs, there is an environmental cost to moving good around the world that could be made locally, there is also a national strategic cost. WW2 demonstrated that to fight a war you need to be as close to self-sufficient for food as possible – something that was nearly achieved by the 1970s, before Blair went globalised captialist bonkers.
Anyone want to go back to powered egg and tinned sardines for tea?
You also need manufacturing. Starmer seems very relaxed about Tata Steel Works shutting its furnaces, and that’s even before you worry about not having a car industry that could be turned to military production.
So how serious is the threat? Is it just Iraq WMDs and western aggression again?

    1. We ain’t seen nothing yet. Worse is to come…MUCH worse. No surprise from bad, Bad, BAD news Starmer. Don’t be fooled by the empty promises to calm those who should be doing everything to stop him. The Blair creature did exactly the same. Eg to get the likes of Prescott to give in re Bliar’s craving to invade Iraq to maim and kill thousands and make many more, orphans and widows. The Bliar creature threw little nones and crumbs to gullible MPs. Eg promise of funding for a bridge in their constituency.

The same bribery is used in backroom deals amongst countries. Eg the Baltic states were bribed b dangling EU accession in return for expressing supporting for Blair & Bush’s Iraq invasion and slaughter.

      1. Quite. The quicker morons like Gordon, Blair, Starmer et el and their sycophantic lying scribes and cheerleaders are in the dock for war crimes and the inevitable consequence that follow the quicker we can achieve some sanity:

        https://steelcityscribblings.uk/wp/2024/07/11/gordon-is-a-moron-gaslighter/

“’ll start with the hypocrisy. Gordon Brown, in Tuesday’s Guardian, wants Vladimir Putin in the dock for war crimes. This from a senior member of a government whose lies led Britain into an illegal war which turned Iraq into a charnel house and unleashed decades of sectarian terror – after it had backed years of illegal sanctions that killed, says the UN, half a million infants.

A man who said Jeremy Corbyn must apologise for ‘antisemitism’, to facilitate his replacement as leader by a lawyer who defends the illegal collective punishment of Gaza. 1 2

Then there’s the personalisation. Of all the wars fought on this sorry planet, the one in Ukraine is by his reckoning not of the West’s doing:…

…..Top tactics for top tacticians of critical thinking – [saying] “we have evidence” is not evidence …”

  3. Great, so Sir Kid Starver is taking us into WW3 because Kyiv decided to ethnically cleanse the Russian community living in Donbas for centuries, and their Nazi tattoos made Putin go “Oh no, not *again*…”

  4. What is NATO? Is it a defensive military organisation? Why is it expanding into the Pacific? That’s nowhere near the North Atlantic Ocean.

Some answers here, in this short video :

  5. Meanwhile, water bills are set to rise (again) and a refusal to state if criminal charges will be brought against polluters.(They won’t).

Yep, keef’s on the side of the consumer, alright.

But you’ll feel/I> better off under smarmerite labour. Those Aussie and Canadian pensioners will definitely be better off.

And despite your thinking on corporates being encouraged allowed to rip you off, then remember that those bombs and missiles that’ll be off to Ukraine should make you feel that at least your tax money’s being spent well.

    1. Not just water Bills.

The EU bureaucracy – which takes its orders from Washington – that created high energy prices from the blowback of sanctions which had the opposite effect to that intended of finishing the job of destroying its own industrial base has recently imposed more sanctions in the form of tariffs on grain from Eurasia (Belarus and Russia).

Which means, given the UK’s proximity to Europe, food prices will rise. There is every possibility that the extreme centerists are quite prepared to starve and impoverish their own populations to achieve the policies set out in the Rand Report.

      As Michael Hudson observes…..

      https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2024/07/michael-hudson-russia-and-china-crush-natos-plan-as-ukraine-falls-apart.html

…..”NIMA: Europe is just having a lot of problems considering their economy. How can they increase their defense budget in order to feed this military-industrial complex in the United States?

MICHAEL HUDSON: They can do just what the International Monetary Fund tells countries to do in a case like this. Number one, they can cut back social spending and reduce living standards. Number two, they can begin selling off their infrastructure, their industry, their agriculture to American buyers. That’s the only way that they can cope for it. There’s no other way.

And, of course, that’s what the centrist parties, the Social Democrats and the labor parties, want to do. That’s why every European leader has lost in the last elections. The voters have just said, no, there must be an alternative to this. Unfortunately, the alternative is more neoliberalism. So, you get rid of one neoliberal party and you get another neoliberal party in. I don’t see much hope for Europe.”

Welcome to the New Third World.

      1. Don’t want to pick holes in your post Dave, but energy prices were soaring a year before the SMO started.

Scandinavian fertiliser CEO was screaming as loud as he could that we were doomed due to rising prices (sadly his name escapes me). The price increases were because the EU moved to a spot pricing market from long term contracts.

Have you seen Starmers promise to give £3 billion a year to Ukraine for as long as it takes? But we’re broke…

If you paid £1 a second, every second, it takes 32 years to gather £1 billion…

      2. Thanks NVLA. Was aware of the spot price decision at the time. A move which it seems reasonable to surmise was part of the approach to weaning the dependency of what passes for the European economies off reasonable cost gas and oil energy from Eurasia towards dependency on high cost fracked LNG energy from the US.

As Hudson alludes to in the article the biggest loser in this proxy conflict is Europe (including UK) and its populations who are about to be owned lock, stock, and barrel in every sense by the neo-con crazy’s and their oligarch backers in Washington courtesy of our sock puppet comprador political and media classes.

Because the only way to afford this tribute of purchasing overpriced shoddy armaments from the likes of Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and other US arms dealers is to sell the entire continent, its contents and people to US Corporate interests to be picked clean and then discarded as an empty shell for a minority of sociopathic shareholder elites.

Starmer, to be able to afford this commitment, is going to have to hold a fire sale which will dwarf in scale that of Thatcher.

As Hudson also noted in the above naked capitalism article:

“The socialist parties, when they moved to the right wing of the spectrum, became internationalist. A lot of this was the result of World War II, and it’s been happening for 75 years. Many of the liberals thought that what caused World War II was nationalism. What’s the alternative to nationalism? Internationalism. So, they all thought that joining Europe together would end European war. And if you could have an international world economy, that would end war.

What they didn’t realize is that the international world economy has become unipolar, dominated by the United States, and the United States is nationalist. So, what you have is an internationalist economy that is dominated by the United States and its own national interests against other countries. And its national interests believe that it can only consolidate its power by preventing any other country from acting independently of the United States. And even if they don’t act actively against American trade policy or financial policy, the very potential of them for being independent is looked at as a deadly risk for them. And so, the United States is engaged in regime change. It’s put 800 military bases across the world to prevent all this.”

This is why Starmer has been placed where he is and given the support of a controlled Corporate Media. He is a Minder for the globalist oligarchy – like Macron, Rutte, Stoltenburg, Borrell, Baerbock and others.

And, as the historical record has demonstrated, attempting to turn such dire situations around from within the system which produced that situation does not work and is futile. That same historical record teaches us that a more ‘robust’ approach is required to deal with what is a very real existential threat to the majority of the populace.

  6. The last thing Russia wanted was a war with USA/NATO/UK/Western Europe.
Russia was deliberately provoked by NATO, who had been preparing for years for a war with Russia.
NATO is the military arm of American foreign policy in Europe.
UK is committed this year to pay £60 billion to NATO.
    How ludicrous is that !

How surprising that Trilateral Commissioner Starmer has now got his orders from USA and that includes more military spending for America’s “forever wars”
This is a gross betrayal of the British people.
But – The sheeple have voted – The British establishment is safe – So – Are we surprised ?

    Sayno2NATO.

  7. When Gorbachev agreed to end partition in Germany NATO said it would not go one inch further East, it has since gone 1,000 miles East.
Grey Anderson in The New Left Review quotes from the US Moscow Ambassador’s cable to the US Defence Secretary (Feb 2012) warning that NATO encroaching on Ukraine was “A red line for the Russian elite including Putin.”
So the US knew what would happen 12 years ago!
The US Neo-Cons want a Polish/Ukraine corridor to The Caucuses & the riches beyond, so tragically Ukrainians are dying for US profits.
Of course the Left are consistent, we were critical of Putin re Chechnya when soon after Blair rushed to Moscow to congratulate him on becoming President giving him a UK state visit, why there’s Cherie Blair kissing Mr P on both cheeks outside no 10 & there’s P in a gold carriage with the Queen going to a state banquet with UK MPs!
We need a Ceasefire in Ukraine Now.
Of course the US et al are now talking up ‘enemies’ to boost arms sales (The Merchants of Death) and when the US says jump lightweight Western politicians say how high?
Need heavyweights who put peace & co-operation first.

  8. Perpetual War. This is WHY he was Selected by the psychopaths who make up the Powers that Be (the PtB).

FPTP and the controlled-MSM simply make it easy for them to present their selection as a ‘democratic’ choice. However, only 20.1% of the British electorate voted for Keir Rodney Starmer or his party on 04-Jul-2024. One in five.

Across the next five years, the “20%-PM” will prosecute the PtB’s FULL anti-human agenda. They’ve got a New Normal and a New World Order to build. Covid-deception, Ukraine, Gaza: We ain’t seen nothing yet.

  9. Questions useless idiots and frauds like SteveH are too scared and dishonest to answer is why it was the Russian Government refused the pleas of ethnic Russians being ethnically cleansed in the Donbass by neo-nazis – recorded as such across the Western MSM – for assistance under the UN R2P for years?

Preferring instead to stick to the Minsk agreements which the paid stooge politicians of the Western Oligarch class have subsequently conceded they had no intention of honouring. Using those agreements as a way to arm the neo-nazi proxies as a means to the end of breaking up Makinder’s Eurasian Heartland into a Balkanised and easily controlled group of ethnic statelets in order to steal the resources – as per the Rand Report.

Hardly the actions of a State seeking to expand its borders in the way Billy no mates dishonestly portrays.

Have you an actual argument to substantiate this bullshit Billy? Other than running around the playground screeching the mantra “Putin Puppet! Putin puppet! like a demented banshee?

While you are at it – if you have any intellectual honesty in you – you could also have a crack at answering the question as to what you think the response would be among those you shill for if the Chinese or the Russians set up bases in Mexico and Carribbean; locating missiles there five minutes flying time from Washington, New York, Los Angeles and Chicago?

We would not put up with it. Why should anyone else?

    1. It’s virtually nailed on. That’s why Sunak called the election when he did. He didn’t fancy the job himself!

  10. Yes, Starmer IS the next WARMONGER PM.

He was allowed to infiltrate Labour, coup TWICE, openly undermine Labour by flag waving for a 2nd Referendum and Remain to DELIBERATELY sabotage Labour. The very night of GE19 results, Starmer’s lot repeatedly said: “the Brexit argument is now settled”.

As the results map prove, they achieved their aim; 2019 Election Labour sabotage. Hence they refused to mention this 2024 GE.

He is not only the next warmonger, he’s also the new user and abuser of “Labour’s” assets to serve the very few… 0.666% of those who gorge on 99% of the world’s resources.

He and his gang didn’t hit anyone over the head to be gifted ALL the resources of the Labours Party. The Party was handed to them on silver platters by people who:

ADMITTED “we did EVERYTHING they asked”.

ADMITTED “we told them to write anything they want on a letter, and I will take it to him, (Jeremy) and he WILL sign it.”

FAILED MILLIONS of IRAQI VICTIMS of Blair’s infliction of bloodshed on them. How? When Alex Salmond, made the chance to “IMPEACH” Blair in Parliament, someone arranged a meeting which the ENTIRE shadow shadow front bench including Jeremy Corbyn attended rather than vote to impeach Blair.
    ☢️🥀⚠️☢️🥀⚠️☢️🥀⚠️

OBVIOUS basics, MEANINGFUL basics, have been and continue to be ignored in favour of EMPTY virtuous words as useful as a bucket of warm spit.
