Israel bans Al Jazeera as attack on journalism goes domestic

Seizure of broadcasting equipment and blocking of Israeli citizens’ access to website as Israel adds assault on dissenting voices in Gaza to its slaughter of journalists in Gaza

Israel has banned Arab broadcaster Al Jazeera from its territory – and blocked Israeli citizens from accessing the station’s channel and website – as it continues its assault on dissenting voices examining its mass murder of Palestinian civilians. The move comes as global support for Palestinians, and condemnation of Israel’s slaughter and maiming of more than 100,000 Palestinians in Gaza, continues to grow and Israel’s usual deceits and tactics to discredit opposition collapses. The ban will last for forty-five days initially, but is likely to keep being renewed.

The station showed a pre-recorded announcement from the head of its Israeli bureau confirming the government censorship – and its final live broadcast from Israeli territory was an interview with a journalist from Israeli paper Haaretz, speaking from his car, who condemned the ban and said it was quite possible he would be arrested when he got home because of the interview.

Israel has murdered well over a hundred journalists in Gaza since 7 October and prevents international journalists from entering the territory, apart from a handful who have been shepherded in and out for propaganda purposes. Now its war on journalism, free speech and truth has gone domestic.

  1. Let us not be surprised at any vile act from the pariah state of Israel.
I wonder how many Labour Friends of Israel and Conservative Friends of Israel will raise their voices in protest.
    I’m not holding my breath.

  2. Surely not? Isn’t Israel supposed to be the only democracy in the Middle East if not the whole world? This must be another fake news story. After all Netanyahu only last week described Israel’s army as the most moral in the world. What could they possibly want to hide?

    1. “Isn’t Israel supposed to be the only democracy in the Middle East if not the whole world?”

Now where would one get such a perception other than the Western Media and political class?

Wonder what other manufactured perceptions they are pushing and just which gullible saps are falling for those them?

  3. Who’s next, the BBC?

The Other War – the IDF in the West Bank
Isobel Yeung and a team of BBC Investigative journalists navigate gun battles, combat raids and secretive meetings as they conduct an investigation deep inside the occupied West Bank. What they find raises serious questions about the conduct of the Israeli Military and uncovers a dangerous situation that is on the brink of exploding.

    1. Happily, SteveH, the BBC is not alone in publicising Israel’s escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank (and E Jerusalem).
HMG Foreign Office named two settler groups, Hilltop Youth and Lehava, as promoting and escalating violence against WB Palestinian communities. They name individuals. Foreign Sec. David Cameron said “The Israeli authorities must clamp down on those responsible. The UK will not hesitate to take further action if needed…”

Sir Kier Starmer should listen to his fellow-conservatives on this. They’re not antisemitic.

      1. Qwertboi, talk is cheap. I am not holding my breath waiting to see what further action is taken. What should happen but, it would not happen is for the UK to stop exporting arms to Israel, and them to order Local Authorities, Universities and Government pension´s funds to divest from Israel and impose sanctions on Israel.

      2. I agree Maria. Cameron and the foreign office also sanctioned named Israeli terrorist settlers back in Feb. and no actions have been able to be taken – but the intention looks good. Whod’a thought that David Cameron would out-do a Leader of Labour on a matter like this??

      3. The footage of armed police attacking student protesters with rubber bullets and tear gas at UCLA shows the lengths the Biden administration and wider US government will go to in order to deter any criticism of its complicity in the genocide in Gaza.

This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.

  4. They have been exposed for what they reily are BABY KILLING SCUM who have been exposed as a week state wasn’t they SUPPOSED to be one of the biggest and best armies in the world It’s been over 6months and still they can not beat HAMAS thats why they want to get rid of A/J so they can carry out more genocide against women and children without being exposed so they believe

  5. According to the FT there were always 45,000 Hamas fighters in Gaza out of 4m so they killed & injured 4% (100,000+so far) of the population (and continue to) to try to eliminate 0.00088%.
My maths might not be perfect but in right direction but points to “Plausible Genocide” (ICJ).
Palestinians are being slaughtered & dispersed for PROFIT (arms sales, land, gas, oil, & new canal Levant) as USA, Israel & European Lightweight leaders all want their share.
Kick them out & get those with real humanity (Left Wing Democratic Socialists/Other Progressives) in!
    ‘TO THE RICH AND POWERFUL.
Last throes ‘Great’ Men and Women.
As arms sales, Gaza’s land, gas, oil plus a new canal cause this capitalist crime.
But a light is shining in the oppressed of the world.
    And it’s name is Palestine!’

  6. And yet, the Iron Dome has been compromised, Israels security is no longer guaranteed, they are a sitting duck
Lets see if their Nuclear Arms are a deterrent when the Genocidal mainiacs launch a full scale attack on Rafah, that will lead to a response and large scale casualties in Israel
Genius is knowing when to stop

    1. Doug, If the fighting stops Bibi’s going to jail at the very least. So he’ll carry on as long as he can. Thanks to him and his mad Zionists Israel is going to be destroyed. They will not be allowed to get away with it any longer. The Israeli economy is being gradually strangled, and now Turkey has supposedly turned off the tap too.

      1. Removing eyes on the ground denies the possibility of credible testimony that not only documents the atrocities that Israel are committing but at some not too distant point might affirm their disengagement. Repeated disinformation from Israel’s side has rendered their reporting wholly fictional whilst, much to their dismay, ever-mounting tallies of dead and injured supplied from Hamas continue to be accepted. As a previous poster noted, the continuance of war is bound to the ongoing maintenance of BN in office . There is a part to be played by Israelis, many of whom despaired at BN’s politics prior to the current conflict, to ensure his removal from office.

      2. Historically, Israelis are not averse to assassinating their leaders. How long before a relative of one of the still-unreleased or dead hostages, unhinged by grief, takes matters into their own hands?
