Video: thousands gather for Gaza at Columbia as professor condemns uni’s ‘day of shame’

History professor Christopher Brown describes scandal of university president setting riot police on peaceful anti-genocide demo and condemns craven congressional testimony

Thousands have again gathered on the lawns of Columbia University in New York, despite the attempted repression of the university’s management and the New York police – where they heard speeches from faculty members as well as students against Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the authorities’ attempts to silence them:

Despite the state’s aggression, which has included the use of riot police and state troops in various locations – and the shameful demonisation of peace protesters by politicians and pro-Israel lobby groups willing to collude in Israel’s war crimes, mirroring the tactics used in the UK – the protest movement is growing and the US public is increasingly aware and condemning of Israel’s mass murder of Palestinian civilians, mostly women and children.

  1. The truth is that the State of Israel is committing mass murder in Gaza using its military might against women and children.
    That is State Terrorism.
That’s why we call Israel a Terrorist State

  2. Yes the rich & powerful revert to state violence against peaceful protesters in a so called democratic society.
We are lucky we did not have “Four dead in Ohio.”
    Ceasefire Now!
Release hostages all sides including 10,000 Palestinians held in Israeli jails on often no/flimsy charges including women & 160 children!
Get aid in & allow convoy from Turkey in!
    Talks! Peace!
Palestinian intellectual H.Eid is very good in a feature on him in the March New Left Review Sidecar blog, he calls for 1 Secular Multi-Ethnic Democratic State of Palestine with the Right of Palestinian Refugees To Return and “A new Palestinian grassroots approach.” Solidarity.

  3. Israel’s mass murder of Palestinian civilians is the most overt anti-Semitism in the world. One set of Semites, which mostly speaks Hebrew, targets a different set of Semites which does not.

The perpetrators of this anti-Semitism do not even contest the racist and sectarian basis of their hatred – in fact they boast about it and call those in their number who do not “the wrong type of Jew”.

Long Live the “wrong type of Jew”.

  4. Branko Martecic writes in Tribune:

With the war now deeply unpopular, and only losing more hearts and minds every day as Americans watch the list of Israeli atrocities pile up and up, its supporters have decided their only recourse is to simply gin up a controversy to draw the media and politicians’ attention away from what has been widely declared a genocide in Gaza, while simultaneously making themselves, the supporters of this crime, out to be the real victims.

This is why we’ve now seen several unseemly, often embarrassing attempts by the war’s supporters to manufacture victimhood at the hands of the nonviolent protesters. [some details with links highlighted in the piece]…

As tends to happen when authorities respond heavy-handedly to protests, Columbia and others’ arrests of students is already backfiring, bringing them negative publicity and inspiring similar, larger, and more militant protests to spring up in solidarity and outrage. But as the campus standoffs take up more headlines, don’t forget what this is all really about: trying to get us to talk about something, anything, other than the ongoing mass murder in Gaza that the US government could stop at any moment.

Why They’re Calling Student Protesters Antisemites

    1. Tribune? I assume you meant Jacobin (as in the article you linked to). Whatever the case, it’s a MUST read. And to save anyone having to look it up, sicced (which the author uses a couple of times), means set upon.

Now I don’t know how many people around the country are regularly getting out and marching and protesting against the mass slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza and the destruction of their homes and civilian infrastructure, but it’s definitely in the hundreds of thousands, but what we need is for millions to be on the streets, and I can’t understand why they’re NOT given that around two-thirds or more condemn what Israel is doing. And ditto in the US, where it should be TENS of millions given the much larger population. And ESPECIALLY in the US, precisely because Biden could bring the genocide to an end tomorrow, and could have done so months ago of course. But one thing it WOULD do immediately is shut the cnuts up who are smearing and demonising and attacking the marchers/protesters.

In other words, the people have the power to shut these malevolent malignent evil scum up AND, potentially bring the carnage in Gaza (and the West Bank) to an end. If there were ten million, fifteen million or more of us demonstrating in the UK, and thirty, fourty, fifty million or more demonstrating in the US, it would DEFINITELY stop these nasty, vicious, demented shit up once and for all, and quite possibly bring the war on Gaza to an end.

It really is way past time to change and transform the totally fucked-up world and reality these mass-murdering planet-destroying demented fucking psychopaths have created!

PS And as Tony says in his post (below) in effect, there is no threat to the UK, except from the insane fascist war-mongering so-called elite and their rabid mouthpiece, the MSM.

      1. Thanks for pointing that out, Allan. My mistake. At least the links correct!
