Jewish actress posts no-holds-barred video supporting Jewish Council of Australia, attacked by Zionists for ceasefire call
Jewish actress and national treasure Miriam Margolyes, a joint UK and Australian citizen, has posted a video supporting the Jewish Council of Australia (JCA) call for an immediate and permanent halt to Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza – along with the imposition of sanctions and an immediate end to Australia’s military ties with Israel.
The JCA has been heavily attacked by pro-Israel groups for the call, with the attacks following similar lines to the dismissal in the UK of left-wing Jewish groups by right-wing nationalist organisations and politicians.
In her video, Margolyes says she has never been more ashamed of Israel – which she described as a ‘vicious, genocidal, nationalist nation’:
Despite the antisemitic representation by western governments and media as if all Jews support Israel, very many do not – and even many who have supported it are disgusted by Israel’s mass murder of, so far, more than forty thousand Palestinian civilians, overwhelmingly women and children, and the blockade and assaults it is using to starve two million more. The UK and Australian establishments continue their complicity in Israel’s war crimes.

After 6 months of marches etc one wonders what can be done & the ideas of Palestinian intellectual (H.Eid) are focussed on in the latest New Left Review Sidecar Blog on ‘Oslo.’
Eid calls for one secular multi-ethnic Democratic State of Palestine and in place of current leaderships argues for Palestinians to “Follow a more grassroots approach.”
Some argue the US & Israel want to get hold of Gaza’s land, gas, oil and to build a new canal in The Levant (all of which would benefit Europe too) as well as promoting arms sales profits (who donate to Biden & Trump etc) so Palestinians are perhaps being wiped out and displaced for profit.
But why must capitalism and its apologists use violence to achieve its ends?
Eid’s one secular democratic state could equally exploit its natural resources and build a new canal (which would benefit world trade) & it would then be independent & wealthy enough to care for its diverse citizens and with peace class politics should then become the norm.
Booting out the lightweight Western politicians who have turned a blind eye whilst arming Israel would certainly help and replacing them with heavyweights (ideally left wing Democratic Socialists) could also help to enable this.
So Eid’s ideas offer a perfectly rational and peaceful solution which Palestinians and the masses of the world could support.
