In pictures: Liverpool turns out in force for Gaza

Large gathering dominates famous station frontage as crowd chants for an end to Israel’s genocide

Hundreds turned out on Easter Saturday to demonstrate at Liverpool’s famous Lime Street Station today to demand an end to Israel’s genocide and war crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The first real spring day did justice to the banners and flags and the large crowd was supplemented by passers-by as shoppers paused to find out more and then join in:

The protest came in a week where a growing number of countries reinstated their support for the UN’s Gaza relief agency UNRWA – and as Ireland, the ancestral home of so many scousers, announced that it would formally join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel.

According to human rights agency Euro Med Monitor, Israel has already killed well over 40,000 civilians in Gaza, mostly women and children, and has wounded and maimed at least twice that number, with the death toll now accelerating even further as the famine imposed by Israel on Gaza’s two million plus inhabitants bites. Israel continues to flout international law and is now ignoring the International Court of Justice’s orders to allow immediate, unfettered, mass access of humanitarian aid and has blocked UNRWA’s access to distribute and deliver, while allowing far-right Israeli groups to block shipments and using starvation as a weapon.

  1. Solidarity! Yes we had a great March in my city too, the diverse working class & progressive middle class United to stop a Genocide in Gaza & to Free Palestine. Icing on the cake, a young Palestinian was getting us men & women to post short video messages of solidarity to Palestinians in Gaza which he was sending there & listening to others contributions was wonderful.
    CEASEFIRE NOW!
    FEED GAZA NOW!

  2. Even Israeli government officials don’t believe the lies that Netanyahu has used as justification for committing war-crimes
    https://www.palestinechronicle.com/inaccurate-research-israeli-officials-slam-lawyer-who-led-oct-7-sexual-assault-claims/
An Israeli lawyer who was at the forefront of sexual assault claims attributed to Hamas on October 7 not only earned millions of dollars for the spread of “untrue” stories but Israeli officials have now “disassociated themselves” from her, according to Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.

  3. Foreign Secretary David Cameron is now aiding and abetting Israels War crimes since he is breaching International Humanitarian Law

Alicia Kearns said: “The Foreign Office has received official legal advice that Israel has broken international humanitarian law but the government has not announced it.
The British government has received advice from its own lawyers stating that Israel has breached international humanitarian law in Gaza but has failed to make it public, according to a leaked recording obtained by the Observer.

The comments, made by the Conservative chair of the House of Commons select committee on foreign affairs, Alicia Kearns, at a Tory fundraising event on 13 March are at odds with repeated ministerial denials and evasion on the issue.
The revelation will place Lord Cameron and prime minister Rishi Sunak under intense pressure because any such legal advice would mean the UK had to cease all arms sales to Israel without delay.

Legal experts said that not to do so would risk putting the UK in breach of international law itself, as it would be seen as aiding and abetting war crimes by a country it was exporting arms to.

    1. Just did a search to ascertain which other MSM news outlets have covered this, and the following came up in the list of results: The Independent, The National (Scotland), The Mirror, The Herald and ITVx/ITV News. Also a video by Al Jazeera, and the BBC mentioned it in a What the Papers Say article. And The National also has a one sentence article (posted 54 minutes ago (at the time of writing/typing) headlined ‘Stephen Flynn calls for UK government to ‘come clean’ on legal advice’.

I can’t determine if the Times and/or the Telegraph covered it, but they didn’t come up in the list of results, as with the Mail, Express and Sun.

    2. Can’t see the Legal Advice being any different the world over, once a plausible case was made
We have moved on, now it’s all about enforcement and direct intervention

      1. And the US/Israel are just begging Iran to take the bait (the attack on Iranian Consulate in Damascus) and lob some Kinzhal missiles towards Dimona or wherever they keep their nukes.

  4. Most importantly the UK government is under pressure to toe the US line on arms sales. The UK are merely vassals, and that lickspittle Cameron is urged to accept the charges of breaching International Law as being worth it to accrue brownie points for his master the US.
Furthermore, despite the UN vote just days before, the Biden administration has made it clear to its allies that threatening to stop weapons supplies to Israel as leverage is off the table, at least for now. The president told a fundraising event on Thursday: “You can’t forget that Israel is in a position where its very existence is at stake.” https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/31/israel-alone-allies-fears-grow-over-conduct-and-legality-of-war-in-gaza

  5. Came across the following article in the DM a few days ago by Andrew Neil from March 2nd in which he says the following:

During a coffee break on Tuesday morning I pondered on the state of the nation (as you do) and let loose this verdict on X… where I have 1.2million followers:

‘The UK is drifting, unhappy, losing faith in previously respected institutions (like the police), buffeted by extremists (often allowed to run amok), dismayed by decline, angry at the inability of the political class to do anything about it, despairing that the Westminster politico/media bubble pursues an agenda, issues and priorities (look at the obsession with Lee Anderson) which are not most people’s — and had enough of being lectured to by a disconnected, de haut en bas chattering class.

‘Yet we have a Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition incapable of speaking up for the moderate majority, who still have pride in their country and are desperate…..

Yeah, buffeted by extremists, often allowed to run amok….. Well, he is a establishment propagandist after all, and one of the most devious of the lot!

The full article isn’t visable (because it then says Subscibe to Mail+ to continue reading), so I don’t know what he goes on to say, but no doubt it’s just more B/S.

There are of course scores of propagandists posing as journalists and columnists working in the MSM, and getting paid a small fortune for deceiving and duping and manipulating millions of people with their lies and smears and demonisation.

    1. PS And needless to say, these media outlets and their editors and so-called journalists give a platform to politicians and organisations and individuals doing the same – ie lying and fabricating and distorting and smearing and demonising.

      1. And falsely accusing…… along with mountainloads of faux anger and fury.

      2. I’ve just tried again to post after the wee gobshite’s comment….and that ones disappeared too.

Is this an April fool? Or am I being deliberately censored?

      3. Toffee – How many of these councillors are up for election on May 2nd and will they appear on the ballot paper as Labour candidates?

      4. Toffee – I have and it says
        “Left Unity @LeftUnityParty
Another 20 councillors have resigned from Labour. They will form independent groups on Pendle Borough Council, Brierfield Town Council, and Nelson Town Council. They cite the lack of democracy in Labour and its abandonment of core principles as their reasons for leaving.

None of which answers my questions
How many of these councillors are up for election on May 2nd and [if so] will they appear on the ballot paper as Labour candidates?
(what are the cut-off dates for candidate registrations and/or alterations to the ballot paper)

  6. I see that Netanyahu is due to have a hernia operation today under general anaesthetic, we can but hope.

  7. It may not be the end of Israel but it is certainly the end of the Jewish State
‘Jews could never commit Genocide ‘
Zionists and their apologists can and do, which means ?
