Russian media claim UK behind downed plane carrying Ukrainian POWs

Ria Novosti and others say ‘informed source’ close to events insists Britain pressured Ukrainian military to fire missile without checking identity of aircraft

Russian news agencies have claimed that an ‘informed source familiar with the situation’ has told it that pressure from UK military advisers in Kiev was responsible for the 24 January Ukrainian missile that brought down a Russian IL-76 aircraft carrying sixty-five Ukrainian prisoners to a prisoner exchange, along with three Russian officers and six crew members. All were killed.

Ria says that its source – it does not state whether it is a Russian, Ukrainian or British whistleblower – told it that:

The attack on the Il-76 was carried out under pressure from British advisers without the consent of the air defense headquarters in Kyiv and additional verification of information about the movement of aircraft over the Belgorod region.

Russia has claimed that US MIM-104A ‘Patriot’ missiles caused the crash.

US magazine Newsweek has carried the story, but the UK ‘mainstream’ media have ignored it, as they did Seymour Hersh’s investigation last year that concluded that the US was behind the destruction of the Nord Stream gas pipelines that triggered an energy crisis in the UK and Europe.

Calls have been made for an international investigation, but so far nothing has been announced, at least publicly.

  1. just like the downing of MH17, the West did it! retards who blame Putin… why? cos our murderous agencies wouldn’t do that sort of thing? it just isn’t cricket! ffs wake up and go for your booster jab!

    1. Dave – Given that you are one of Putin’s useless idiots how much credibility do you have.
How do you square being a socialist with your support for the corrupt wannabe imperialist Putin who maintains his hold on power through intimidation, fear, imprisonment, torture and murder so that he and his cronies can continue to enrich themselves by stealing from the Russian people.

      1. The SteveH method

        StOp lIkiNg wHaT i DoN’t LiKe!!1

P.S. When are you off to fight Putin then?

      2. NVLA – Welcome back, it’s a while since we heard from you.

It is disappointing that you couldn’t find something more sensible to say. 😞

      3. Billy, you sound like some wannabe WSWS , SWP or AWL student Trot with this post-modernist evidence free diatribe.

Plenty of evidence has been provided for you in recent times which demonstrate the shallowness of The Official Narrative you are pushing. Evidence you make very clear you choose to ignore because it does not suit that narrative you have committed to.

Those like yourself who live in and by such glass house narratives should be very wary of throwing the stones you do.

        Caitlin Johnson, among others……

……succinctly skewers hypocrites such as yourself with their double standards, exceptionalism, and projection and deflection of their own behaviour and approach onto others.

You are sounding more and more like Malcolm Bradbury’s History Man.

      4. Dave – Are we to take it that you are unable to defend Putin, hence the silly rant.

ps, Unlike you I have drawn attention on these pages to Julian Assange’s plight and the campaign to free him on numerous occasions.

      5. Where’s the meat Billy? What exactly are the allegations and evidence you are requiring a response to?

When you can provide some specific allegations and objective evidence to substantiate those allegationms – whatever they might be – rather than generalised scattergun evidence free smears then maybe a grown up conversation can occur.

On the basis of your past record that is likely to be the twelfth of never because so far you have provided less than nothing with which any kind of response can take place.

      6. Dave – Perhaps you should educate yourself. 🤔
You could make a start here.
This is how Alexander Motyl- Professor of Political Science, Rutgers University – Newark defines fascism.

Yes, Putin and Russia are fascist – a political scientist shows how they meet the textbook definition
Contemporary scholars usually classify states as being democratic, authoritarian or totalitarian, with each category having a variety of subtypes. Democracies have parliaments, judiciaries, parties, political contestation, civil societies, freedom of speech and assembly, and elections.
Authoritarian states rest on the state bureaucracy, military and secret police; they usually circumscribe most of the features of democracies; and they typically are led by juntas, generals or politicians who avoid the limelight.
Totalitarian states abolish all the features of democracy, empower their bureaucracies, militaries and secret police to control all of public and private space, promote all-encompassing ideologies and always have a supreme leader.
Fascist states share all the features of authoritarianism, and they may also share the features of totalitarianism, but with two key differences. Fascist leaders have genuine charisma – that ephemeral quality that produces popular adulation – and they promote that charisma and the image that goes with it in personality cults. The people genuinely love fascist leaders, and the leaders in turn present themselves as embodiments of the state, the nation, the people.
The bare-bones definition of a fascist state is thus this: It is an authoritarian state ruled by a charismatic leader enjoying a personality cult.
Seen in this light, Franco’s Spain, Pinochet’s Chile and the Greece of the colonels were really just your average authoritarian states. In contrast, Mussolini’s Italy and Xi Jinping’s China are clearly fascist, as were Hitler’s Germany and Stalin’s USSR. Fascist states can thus be on the right and on the left.
        ‘Dismantled’ democratic institutions
Putin’s Russia also fits the bill. The political system is unquestionably authoritarian – some might say totalitarian.
Putin has completely dismantled all of Russia’s nascent democratic institutions. Elections are neither free nor fair. Putin’s party, United Russia, always wins, and oppositionists are routinely harassed or killed.
The media have been curbed; freedom of speech and assembly no longer exists; and draconian punishments are meted out for the slightest of criticisms of the regime.
A hypernationalist, imperialist and supremacist ideology that glorifies all things Russian and legitimates expansion as Russia’s right and duty has been both imposed on and willingly accepted by the population.
War is worshipped and justified by the state’s mendacious propaganda machine. As the brutal invasion of Ukraine shows, war is also practiced, especially if it is directed against a people whose very existence Putin regards as a threat to himself and to Russia.

      7. On the basis of the actual available recorded evidence this sounds more appropriate to a description of the Collective West.

Are you really sure you want to go down this route Billy?

    2. Jenny – What is it about Putin that you admire and how do you reconcile your socialist views with your support for a corrupt fascist like Putin?

      1. There you go again Billy, projecting the fascism of the Collective Western elites onto others.

What a shitty little hypocrite you are.

You should take the advice contained here…..

        https://patrickarmstrong.ca/2023/12/30/listen-to-what-hes-saying/

…..from former British Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow.

As well as the advice of Patrick Armstrong further down the article:

“If you don’t bother, if you blither on about “your values”, the “Rules-Based International Order” and your power and excellence, all you’re doing is looking in the mirror and seeing a slim muscled figure in place of your flabby overweight body. And, sooner or later, you’ll be very sorry because reality will bite you.”

      2. Dave – What have I said on these pages that is hypocritical. Are you claiming that Putin isn’t a corrupt wannabe imperialist who maintains his hold on power through intimidation, fear, imprisonment, torture and murder so that he and his cronies can continue to enrich themselves by stealing from the Russian people.

      3. Dave – I really can’t be bothered I’ve got better things to do. This is what the well respected Brendan Ogle has to say about Putin.
        https://www.newstalk.com/news/war-on-ukraine-the-left-is-being-too-soft-on-putin-brendan-ogle-1388301

Brendan Ogle has said that the political Left is too soft on Russian President Vladimir Putin who has waged war on Ukraine.
A progressive activist with Unite Trade Union, Mr Ogle is concerned with leftist attitudes towards the “imperialist fascist”, saying he “should be called out much more powerfully on the left than he has been”.
“I’m very energized with the war in Ukraine and the behaviour of that imperialist fascist in Moscow”, Mr Ogle said. “He should be called out much more powerfully on the left than he has been.”
“Vladimir Putin is not a communist. Vladimir Putin is not even a leftist. Vladimir Putin is a fascist imperialist.”
He argued that the Left should always stand against fascist imperialism, “whether it comes from Washington, whether it comes from Iran”.
        Leftist ideology
“This idea that America bad, everything else good, just doesn’t sit with me”, Mr Ogle said.
He described leftists choosing Putin as a rejection of American imperialism as “childish”.
“You’re not picking a football team here.”
Mr Ogle fiercely condemned the “horrific” war crimes committed by Russia, including “the raping and pillaging of Ukrainian women and children”.

Quelle surprise. The chicken clucks again as it rapidly retreats over the horizon.

‘No I don’t want to go down that route’ would have been sufficient Billy.

If you’re around Toffee you can chalk this one as another declined discussion from the one person on the planet who runs away faster and more often than his ‘heroes’ of the Azov Battalion.

  2. US magazine Newsweek has carried the story, but the UK ‘mainstream’ media have ignored it

Quite a lot like keef, rayner, reeves and lammy, all ignoring the public and scuttling off when confronted with their shithousery.

    We see you.

If it weren’t for citizen journalism we’d be told those four were being harassed, and receiving death threats on the streets outside their (taxpayer-bought, second/third) homes.

In fact, it’s already been happening, more-or-less. Apparently the pitchforks were out for ellwood (incidentally, perhaps THE biggest shit-stirrer & instigator for a war with Russia); the only things missing from the tale were a cauldron of tar and a bag of feathers.

Of course, the British MSM WILL report on that

And on that note, I read that that that fat, bigoted, clueless gobshite gullis said he’d take the law into my own hands in the event demonstrators protested outside his house.

Oh, DO fuck RIGHT off, gullis. I’ve seen your type all too often. You make weirdo ed balls (the once so-called “hard man”[stop laughing] of British politics) look like a veteran of countless football hooligan tear-ups ffs.

    1. Don’t forget Lukey. He’s coming for all you skwaky lefties. He clenched his fist during a speech. Very Henman like. Well it’s that or the lobster pot! Goat in himmel.

    1. Nalvany, the nationalist and racist xenophobe.

Why is it not surprising that the fascist loving Billy no mates is pushing this evidence free narrative.

      For the record Billy:

Navalny was not a representative of a “democratic” faction of the Russian political system. He entered politics on the far right, joining the free market Yabloko party and its Union of Right Forces in 2000.

In 2007, he co-founded the National Russian Liberation Movement, an anti-immigrant chauvinist outfit.

In 2021, Amnesty International temporarily stripped Navalny of the designation it had given him as a “prisoner of conscience,” for advocating racial killings of people from Central Asia and the Caucasus, whom he once referred to as “cockroaches”.

Only after he entered into opposition to Putin did Navalny decide, for political reasons to find another more politically palatable basis, to choose the all-purpose banner of “anti-corruption.”

His embrace of Islamophobic, ultra-nationalist, and xenophobic views would have resulted in him being ‘cancelled’ a long time ago if he operated in the West.

Pushing him as some kind of Mandela figure merely demonstrates your naivety and ignorance Billy.

  3. No prizes for guessing why this history rarely sees the light of day in the West. I would add he seemed guilty of the original fraud case so far as I could tell. Becoming an American asset was pure opportunism. And he’s the West’s hero; Russians know bull shit when they see it.
    (NB who is Billy?)
