Police claim driver took ‘wrong turn’ but protesters say several attempts made to drive further into packed demo
A white woman drove a car into a packed pro-Gaza demonstration in Edinburgh on Saturday. According to some present, police ‘facilitated’ the driver’s departure and claimed she had been ‘confused by protest signs’ and driven the wrong way:
However, one person said that police took the woman into custody and drove her car away.
Protesters said the woman made several attempts to drive further info the crowd, bruising people who tried to protect children and others by preventing her moving forward:
Others on the scene said how close the car had come to taking them out’ and spoke of their ‘horror’:
One person had captured footage of the car as it pushed further through the packed crowd after the initial impact, with one protester apparently falling under the car:
And at least one person wondered how differently the police would have reacted had the driver been less white:
However, a number of far-right supporters of Israel’s apartheid regime welcomed the assault.
Luckily, it appears no one was seriously hurt. Skwawkbox has contacted Police Scotland for comment on the incident and to find out whether anyone has been charged.

70-year-old charged after car runs into pro-Palestine demo in Edinburgh
A Police Scotland spokesperson commenting on the Edinburgh incident said: “Around 2.30pm on Saturday, 13 January 2024, we were made aware of a road crash involving a car and a small number of pedestrians in Ramsay Lane.
“Officers received reports of minor injuries from pedestrians, but no medical attention was required.
“A 70-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with a driving offence.
“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”

I had the dubious ‘honour’ of engaging in a short conversation with this sorry excuse for a human being a few years ago.
Someone I know – can’t remember who – passed me a ticket for a Radio Four ‘Any Questions’ broadcast in some local private technical academy.
JHB was one of the panel. At some point the discussion touched on the thorny issue of AI and employment. However, as with all such staged media events they only really skirted around the issue.
Following such broadcasts the production company who has the sub-contract for the broadcast puts on a buffet and drinks etc in which the public can mingle with the panel.
Most of the audience tends to leave immediately but on this occasion I stopped behind for a drink and some food before departing home and found myself near the bar asking JHB about the economic impact of AI on the ability of a societies populace to earn sufficient wages to sustain a functioning society (given the equation that one persons expenditure is another persons income) as a result of the pace of technological replacement of people in what passes for a productive process (or words to that effect).
Her response was both instructive and dismissive at the same time. The matter was un-troubling for her on the grounds that there has always got to be someone in charge. Clearly those like JHB see themselves as part of that unchanging and unchangeable elite who make the rules and give the orders. The people permanently ‘in charge’.
