Guide Dave Searby takes groups around companies funding genocidal apartheid regime
Bath left-winger Nicola James explains:
Remember, #BDS was crucial in ending apartheid in South Africa, and it will be a valuable tool in ending Israeli apartheid and ramping up the pressure for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“The bloody killing going on in Gaza. Why are we at Barclays? We’re at Barclays because they’re funding some of that. Barclays own shares worth over £1.3 BILLION in companies supplying Israel with weapons in military technology, that is used in violence against Palestinians. In addition, Barclays provides these companies with over 4 billion pounds worth of loans and other financial services.
Who are the companies that they are funding? Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest private arms company. It supplies most of the drones used by the Israeli army. Its weaponry has been used extensively in Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip. In addition, Elbit Systems have been associated with the production of cluster munitions, which are banned under international law.
Another company that Barclays are funding, Raytheon, produces bunker buster bombs used by Israel to hard target the Gaza Strip. Barclays also funds Caterpillar, which supplies the Israeli military with D9 bulldozers. These are used to demolish Palestinian homes, schools, villages and civilian infrastructure.
So our message today. If you’ve got an account with Barclays, tell them that you’re not happy with their policy on Israel. Better still, move your account somewhere else and tell them why you’re doing it. Thank you very much. We’ll have a short pause here, a bit more liveliness, a bit more drumming, a bit more chanting, and then we’ll go on to talk about briefly about CocaCola. Thank you.”
If every town in the UK had similar tours, what a dent might that make in the profits of those supporting the perpetrator of apartheid and war crimes.
This article originally mentioned Bristol as the location and has been corrected to Bath.
