Broxtowe Labour council group condemns Starmer’s ‘failure’ to oppose war crimes

Collective punishment is a war crime. Starmer will not condemn, let alone oppose, it

The entire group of Labour councillors on Broxtowe council has issued a statement against Keir Starmer’s ‘failure’ to condemn Israel’s collective punishment of the people of Gaza, including more than a million children, or to demand a ceasefire:

The statement has been described by some as ‘strongly-worded’, but in ‘both-sidesing’ the issue of mass punishment, ethnic cleansing and genocide, it falls along way short and needs to be backed by action. Better than nothing, but not what it should be.

  1. Broxtowe councillors must be congratulated for showing the backbone, prohibited by Starmer labour, to contradict his implicit support for Israel mass murderers. Unfortunately they appear to have forgotten that all Palestinians are entitled by law to use force to oppose any military oppressor; Israel is illegally occupying most of Palestine and there is growing body of evidence, rather than unsubstantiated accusation, that Hamas committed no atrocities: there were no baby beheadings; no rapes and of the 100 or so killed (not 1,200) most had taken up arms to confront Hamas as explained by the Israel newspaper Haaretz.

    1. Do you have a link to the article Philip, or if not, the actual headline (save me trying to find it). Thanks

      1. The video links above does not seem to be working – at least on my screen at present. Here is the second attempt

      2. Here also is the updated list published in the Israeli publication Haaretz:

        https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2023-10-19/ty-article-magazine/israels-dead-the-names-of-those-killed-in-hamas-massacres-and-the-israel-hamas-war/0000018b-325c-d450-a3af-7b5cf0210000

At present it is showing 584 civilians and 347 military/police/rescue workers.

However, the data is difficult to use to make any direct comparisons to the initial claim of 1,700 civilians who lost their lives on 7 October because:

        a) It is incomplete in terms of the 1,700 figure.
        b) It has been extended to cover deaths other than those which occurred on 7 October.

This can be seen both in the headline of the article and in at least the civilian death filter where some deaths are recorded from what is claimed to be terrorist attacks in Egypt and others which appear to be on the West Bank which may have occurred on a different date either before or after 7 October.

Moreover, it is also difficult to verify some of those listed as civilian. Which includes: 6 ranking Reservists; 5 ranking others which are not listed as Reservists and may be Regulars?; 1 Border Guard; 2 Guards; 2 Community Security Squad Members; 1 Ministerial Bodyguard; 1 described as a ‘lone’ Canadian ‘guest’ Soldier; and 1 Assistant Commissioner.

  2. George Bush took away the Geneva convention from non state fighters. So only one side has committed war crines. Israels 75 year war crime. Resistance is not a war crime. This is a very obvious pysop to flatten Gaza.

  3. Starmer needs to come out from behind his wife’s skirt. Nobody wants to vote for a pussy-whipped wimp!

  4. After keef & co closed the community hub (including foodbank) the people of broxtowe CLP (for what it’d be worth) might as well have gone the whole hog and given both barrels to the box-headed beaut.

But as said – better than nowt, I guess.

  5. Off-topic, admin point (plse don’t post, if poss): Steve – suddenly approval/likes are not working on Skwawkbox. Hope it’s not just me…
