Hundreds of attacks with thousands of settlers beating Palestinians and smashing their homes as soldiers stand by and Netanyahu puts extremist hate preacher in charge of occupied territories – to deafening silence from UK ‘msm’
Far-right Israeli settler groups have mounted mass attacks on Palestinian villages, beating Palestinians and smashing their homes in recent weeks, with the escalation of violence reaching such a level last weekend that it was described as a ‘pogrom’ by a Jewish critic.
The violence – which saw over a hundred attacks in just one ten-day period by large crowds protected by Israeli soldiers – has been reported in the Israeli press, but ignored in the UK media, with the BBC News site, for example, showing no recent results:
Israeli soldiers have described having no orders to deal with Jewish settlers engaging in violence, with one saying ‘I know what to do with Palestinians’.
The one Israeli minister who condemned the violence was in turn condemned both by Israeli PM Netanyahu and by extremist Knesset member Bezalel Smotrich, who called him a ‘bastard’. Netanyahu has now put Smotrich in charge of Israeli administration of the Palestinian territories.
‘Labour leader’ Keir Starmer has voiced ‘unequivocal’ support for zionism, the political ideology of the attackers, whipped MPs to support Tory measures to ban Palestinian groups, condemned calls by Labour’s supposedly-sovereign conference for sanctions against the Israeli government and boycott of settler-produced goods and declared war on Labour’s youth section for condemning Israeli apartheid.
Jewish UK commentator Tony Greenstein has described last weekend’s mass assaults as a ‘pogrom’. For the full story, see Greenstein’s new article on the violence, the abject lack of protection for Palestinians and the complicity of both the Israeli and international governments.
