Lula wins despite voter intimidation by Bolsonaro supporters

At least in one country, there is some light but immediate danger is of far-right or military coup

Left-wing candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, better known as Lula, has won in the second round of Brazil’s presidential election and has been confirmed by Brazil’s supreme court as the country’s next president.

Lula’s supporters flood the streets in celebration

The result came despite a lead for right-wing extremist Bolsonaro in the early part of the count – and despite widespread reports of attempts to intimidate and otherwise impede left-wing voters, as former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, a Lula friend and ally, noted:

Congratulations to Brazil and to Lula – but the next danger is the risk of a military coup or right-wing power grab. The defeated Bolsonaro has already begun questioning the accuracy of the count. Shamefully, the BBC and some of its guests have been validating Bolsonaro and regurgitating Lula’s discredited corruption conviction that fell apart last year when Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled it had been an illegal trial and a stitch-up and annulled all its outcomes.

  1. Good..Now let’s see if he can protect the Amazon and hence the planet……….

  2. Very good news for democracy in Brazil and in South.. America Meanwhile in Britain people still pay subs to a fascist labour party hoping that a Bolsanaro type thug will walk into power by default.Try and understand the lodgic in that and the future for the working class movement when good people support criminals and thugs running the country.by default. The sooner labour are out of the way then the sooner a working class party will arise
and the reluctant collaborators know it.!

  3. And for those who think fascism cannot happen in Britain….?”. “Immigration centre in Dover attacked with petrol bombs ”
Brazil might be a long way from London but fascism and the support for it is still strong especially in the West and Lula
will have to be on guard and remember that the enemys of the people are strong and in control of the western world .The great Satan is just up the road in Washington dc and nesting in the House of parliament under the disguise of the labour party
.Can the peoples mandate survive in any of these countries?

  4. I hope Bolsanaro using the Trump/Bannerman playbook of the ‘stolen election’ comes to nothing. But I fear too about the military and the damage Bolsanaro can achieve before 1 January. #VivaLula

  5. Excellent news! Lula Livre! Viva Lula! Viva Brasil!

As Skwawkie says, now comes the hard part – and it will be hard. Staying there, as a democracy.

One of Lula’s major, and most ambitious, plans, is to introduce a separate currency for Brazil, and – eventually – for South America, called the Sur.

Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and, even, the parlous state of Argentina have expressed interest, in the proposal.

It would reduce South America’s dependency on the U$ Dollar. A move the US would not be keen to see, so, expect a recruiting drive by Langley.

I haven’t looked to see what happened in the apartheid state of Israel’s GE, yesterday, yet, but expect interference from them, as well. The fascists of Brazil and Israel are good pals, and won’t be averse to helping each other out – in any way they can.

Mrs Bolsonaro rocked up to the polls, yesterday, sporting a T-shirt with the Israeli flag emblazoned across her breasts.

For now, we can only hope Lula will wake up, each morning – fit and well – for many years to come.

    1. I wait with bated breath, to see if Sir Keir Rodney Starmer – leader of the UK Labour Party(nominally) – sends his congratulations, and fraternal greetings, to the people of Brazil and their new President, Lula.

    2. This is a late post. Israel have problems in Syria. John Bolton is not a happy walrus.

  6. Strummer more likely to wish Lulu good luck than Lula..Early days with a challenge on the cards from the fascist opponent.
Can anyone imagine a British politician claiming “I campaigned for alleviating poverty and inequality in our society” ….Maybe they should drag Corbyn back as hes nought but a lad compared to the seventy seven years old Lula…..A leader will arise from the working class but how much misery and death do the British people suffer under the over used phrase Austerity measures “before it happens.?

  7. SW: “The defeated Bolsonaro has already begun questioning the accuracy of the count. This would be an exact re-run of the Trump ‘voter fraud’ script.

“The greatest election fraud ever seen” will be followed ,before the victor’s inauguration, by a mass rally of hard-right Bolsonaristas storming Brazil’s equivalent of the Capitol to show they do not accept the result and are intent on its overturn.

(Perhaps the WEF/Trilateral Commission will instruct Sir Keir to advise Bolsonaro to petition hard for a second vote., ‘a people’s referendum’ – after all it worked very well against For the Many Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn in 2019 ).

    1. Good point. I think that such an appointment is worthy of comment. There you go wtf do I know.

      1. Well at least you-know-who hasn’t been on with his pseudo-bragging about wakeford’s unnervingly rapid promotion in order to get the response he was after…then claim he was MERELY or SIMPLY or ONLY pointing it out…Or something.

  8. As scam raises its ugly head again this time the president of the
    NUS…has been sacrificed……and sacked.!
Moslems have been advised to boycott the students union after the kangaroo decission based on one piece of so called evidence that could be interpereted as a criticism of Israeli \Gaza relations.
The day labour fell asleep on the job and let the dogs out on AS was the day the labour party ceased to be a force for good in politics.and fascism raised its ugly head.
