FIFA site – the only way to book tickets – called Israel the ‘Occupied Palestinian Territories’
The official FIFA World Cup ticketing site made applicants from Israel select ‘Palestinian Occupied Territories’ as their place of residence if they wanted to order tickets for the event, which takes place in Qatar this autumn.
The site, the only way to order tickets to attend World Cup matches, offered the option in the drop-down list of locations, with Israel not available. The page stayed that way for several hours earlier this month, until it was changed by FIFA when the site crashed, officially at least because of of too much traffic.
Qatar and Israel have no displomatic relations, but Israeli citizens can to apply for a supporters’ ID card, after reserving tickets, which will entitle them to enter Qatar for the tournament.
