Breaking: Corbyn launches legal action over wreath-smear tweet

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has launched legal action against Tory councillor Paul Nickersen after Nickersen tweeted a doctored image portraying Corbyn laying a wreath for the suicide bomber who attacked Liverpool Women’s Hospital last week.

Nickersen deleted his tweet and ‘unconditionally’ apologised, but the damage had been done and Corbyn’s lawyers are on the case.

In 2018, Tory MP Ben Bradley was forced to tweet a grovelling apology, with a request for readers to ‘retweet’, after claiming Corbyn had spied for a foreign power. It became the Tories’ most ‘successful’ tweet ever. Bradley also paid a sum to charity in compensation.

    1. If I were Nick I’d plead fair comment, satire or opinion on the picture.

But there are some other tweets which are not so easy to defend. Hope for the best on this but I wish Ware would get a writ and the media generally shouldn’t be allowed to get away with character assassination.

Someone thoughtfully commented “Who radicalised Nickerson to the extent he would do such a thing”? Answer is Media as well as his Tory colleagues.

      1. Alan851603. This fascist Tory councillor is a “persistent offender” who has smeared many others hiding behind the keyboard and quickly apologises to get him off the hook.He has to be stopped.Would he stand up in a debate with corbyn or any other socialist debater face to face?…I doubt it and like many others uses hiding behind a keyboard to attack and smear without any repercussions. Some people actually believe these photo shops and smears against the left and most importantly Socialism and the “character” of a person that believes in our collective endeavours to work together for the many “.Jeremy Corbyn has made a move to fight back for all socialists who are sickened by the lies and propaganda smears by a hard right wing backed up by fascist ideology….Left is Right …and Right is wrong” and economic and moral suicide…!

      2. Better than who are you, more welcome to a new poster Allan 851603….new insights and different opinions are always welcome.

    2. Good for jeremy Corbyn for fighting back for all Socialists Labour members or not.IT appears that your trolling of me Smartboy and your pal white flag man has blown back in your faces again with Jeremy ignoring your advice to run away against a persistent Hate merchant who smears all socialists and quickly apologises and thinks it gets them off the hook.Well it doesn’t and running away and waiving the white flag never works except in your cases were my urging “To go for it for all true socialists” was used by Smartboy and white flag to continue a smear campaign against me and acusse me on a regular basis of being a right wing plant and Troll. “.Egg on your gutless faces for doing the same thing to me hiding behind a keyboard and smearing a long term member of the Labour party and a Socialist who left the Labour party when like many I saw I was flogging a dead horse.and was sickened at seeing comrades who fought back being thrown under a Bus.Whether Jeremy wins or looses fight back and make sure the fascists realise that its no longer open season on socialism.

      1. Reply to Joseph O’Keefe
I wouldn’t presume to tell Jeremy Corbyn what to do -he has made the decision to sue and I hope he wins the case . I remain concerned about how this will be portrayed in the media etc and fear it may be used to demonise him even further. However he obviously feels strongly enough about this latest slander to take action against Nickersen and I respect his decision. I also respect Jeremy.
You on the other hand have, in several posts, mocked and ridiculed Jeremy for not descending into the gutter with his detractors. You have also unfairly criticised him, individual socialist MPs and the Socialist Campaign group who you refer to as imbeciles and you have been very uncomradely about the Left in general in relation to our alleged failures.
Many of you comments about the Jeremy the SCG individual Socialist MPs and the Left have been nasty insulting and uncalled for. I do not know any Socialist who has or would express the vitriol towards fellow Socialists you display in post after post day in day out.
For these and various other reasons I do not believe you are a genuine Socialist contributor on this site.

      2. Smart boy…..you always initiate the character assassinations against me because you dont like me,be honest for once and stop crying when I reply to your trolling.I am sure everone is fed up with the Silly made up “insight” you have on my politics which is and always has been left wing socialist. Now you dont have the balls to apologise the same as your white flag man buddy and for the same reason.Nasty keyboard warriors who hide behind aliases were my track record is researcable and left wing socialist yours is a disgusting attempt to smear because I offended you in your militant veiw on the trans community .who I have no problem or interest in other than the right to free speech and less of your thought control especially in the universitys. Now stop disrupting these articles from squawkbox with your silly lies about me and I will leave you to your hobby of funding the right wing Labour party.

      3. Once again you have not addressed the issues you have just posted insults.
If you can explain why if you are a Socialist you feel the need to post nasty insulting unsubstantiated comments about Jeremy, other socialist MPs , the SCG and the Left in general I will more than happy to say I am wrong about you.

      4. Grow up.Smarty….You’re an old man like me not the moderator or guardian on morals, language and decorum….Stop spoiling the comments section you and your acomplice white flag man with your beyond imature attacks that both you and him have on posters here….Youve no track record as a socialist I have and I don’t appreciate your continued behaviour thats not disimaler to the other loony tune White flag man ….plainly and simply please seek medical advice for your obsessions that are no use and add nothing to the debates. So you don’t like me and others you have trolled but you are now entering the nuisances posters….Go away and soak your head in a bucket …or get to bed earlier..I noticed you appear like your mate to stalk the early hours of the nights…Insomnia like your mate maybe?

      5. Do you mind if I join in lads
JC is the kind of man we all wish we could be but when it comes to winning you also need a horrible bastard to do the dirty work
For the love of God look at what is running our party
        Question
If Cable Street was the morra would JC be on the streets fighting the police
        2nd Question
Would Joseph and I want him there
        Regards Comrades

  1. ‘The quality of mercy is not strained …’: how about an apology and a more than symbolic donation to Medical Aid for Palestinians?

  2. Oh dear, will Nickersen take one for the team? After all, someone compromised his twitter account. He didn’t do it! He’s a victim.

    1. The Zionist Eternal Victim Syndrome, in all it’s ugly glory! The Spoilt Brats of The International Community, like Spoilt Todlers, but with Toybox after Toybox full of Nuke Warhead Toys, and other Expensive Killing Machines!
‘Then again to be fair, it was Jeremy who made him do it!’

    2. No ifs, no buts, no apologies.. Bankrupt the twunt, Jeremy. Ruin him and make the rest of the knobheads take notice.

They’d ruin you with great gusto if you gave them the opportunity. They tried to without it.

  3. Good onJeremy! See from Parliament today in future general elections if you vote for a Tory (or some Right Wing Labour like Starmer?) you may not be getting an MP who works 40 hours a week for you but 25 hours as the rest of the time up to 15 hours they can stuff their mouths with gold! Hmm.

    1. The media should have slaughtered Starmer today. There is concrete proof he wanted to take another job with Mishcon De Raya but Corbyn refused yet they’re all keeping quiet about it.

      1. Ch4 news made a half-arsed attempt to do so when they interviewed the politically and morally promiscuous rayner earlier on.

Not even worth looking for tbh. Same bullshit, different channel.

      2. Toffee I loved the way the Angel dropped the knight of the realm into it up to his greasy neck Angela is the women scorned and has defiant leadership ambitions in a party on the Brink….I was suprised when the interview actually mentions the hypocrisy of the knight and the hundreds of thousands the knight has recieived….I had a good chuckle as even Rayner cant hide the dislike she has for the knight in shining armour and his greed.

      3. “Let’s make it perfectly clear” says Rayner, about as clear as the water that runs down my drain.

  4. Stick it to’em Jeremy.
When you have the bastards in your sights – Don’t hesitate to pull the trigger.

  5. Has hater Imran Ahmed of the alleged “Campaign for the Countering of Digital Hatred” sent a message of solidarity yet to Jezza?

If not, why not? Maybe this is ticking all the wrong boxes, and could be a non-qualifying brand of hate fuelled bile?

  6. The bogus picture is obviously meant to be humorous (for a Tory). What is offensive was that Jezza was vilified by well-paid data miners & a baying mob from the gutter press for laying a wreath for victims of an Israeli bombing raid in a cemetery that also contained other people the Zionists do not like. That was the libellous incident. That, & complaining that he was anti-Semitic for appearing with a 90 year-old Auschwitz survivor for Holocaust Remembrance who was also hated by the Zionist lobby.

  7. British politics now swims in a sea of lies, untruths and atrocious right wing propaganda.
It is good to see JC taking it on in his own corner.
The right have a major problem in court, where they are generally expected to produce evidence to support their claims.
On this basis alone all the outrageous and egregious lies told over Labour anti-Semitism fall apart.
They just need to be called out for what they are.

  8. Here is part of a letter I sent to Seumas Milne on 04-08-2018…….

Imagine if the UK had in its statutes, and the USA had in its constitution measures to ensure only white people had the right to immigration [one of Israel’s basic laws is only Jews have the right to immigration into Israel]. Continuing the analogy with Israel’s recently passed ‘Nation-State’ [basic law].

    1. “The states of the UK and the US are the nation-states of the ‘white people”.

    2. “The actualization of the right of national self- determination in the states of the UK/USA is unique to white people”

    3. “The UK/USA will labour to ensure the safety of sons of white people”.

    4. “The UK/USA will act to preserve the cultural, historical and religious legacy of white people among the Diaspora”.

    5. “The UK/USA views ‘white’s only’ settlement as joint national values and will labour to encourage and promote its establishment and development”.

Now let us look at one of the IHRA examples which many members of the Labour Party, some of Jewish origin, some not, want to incorporate into the Labour Party rule book:

“Denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination – e.g. by claiming that the existence of a state of Israel is a racist endeavour”.

Who could deny that examples 1 to 5 above if incorporated into UK and US law would prove 100% that the UK and US were inherently racist and that their ‘existence were racist endeavours’ and that anyone in the UK/US [including Jeremy Corbyn] who disapproved of 1 to 5 above, and said so, would fall foul of the IHRA definition, be accused of being Anti Semitic and drummed out of the Labour Party and possibly ostracised from society for life. If the IHRA examples are included in the Labour Party rule book, most members of the party would face disciplinary action, which the Zionists would heartily approve.

    Yours Faithfully
    Harry Law.

    1. JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel is the homeland “only of the Jewish people,” in a new jab at the country’s Arab minority ahead of April’s election.
Netanyahu on Sunday addressed “slightly confused people” after an Israeli celebrity defended the rights of Israel’s Arab population. Arabs comprise about 20 percent of Israel’s 9 million residents. They have full citizenship rights but have faced decades of discrimination. Israel “is the national state, not of all its citizens, but only of the Jewish people.” https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/netanyahu-israel-state-jewish-people-61592236
Starmer is a racist to his core, being a Zionist without qualification.

      1. R L Bailey told Robert Peston at the Labour Leadership hustings that to criticize Israeli policy was Anti Semitic, therefore anyone critical of Israel’s Nation State law [which is a basic law similar to a constitutional law] is ipso facto an Anti Semite. Bailey like Starmer is a lawyer, and may have been worse than Starmer [is that posible?] I do not agree with that character in the Shakespeare play who said… first thing we do come the revolution is ‘hang all the lawyers’, I think they should torture them first./S

  9. I am disgusted with the MSM in their hypocracy
regarding racism as a whole and Islamophobia in particular …

They were rightly appalled at hearing about the bullying of
cricketer Rafiq which did not stop even when the poor guy
    lost his baby son.

Yet the truly BAD example of our leaders is ignored – in
particular Islamophobia in the Tory Party. EHRC turned
down an investigation on the understanding that they held their
own – which turned out to be a whitewash.

Islamophopbia also exists in the Labour Party – where we had
the disgrace of Trevor Philips being reinstated into the Labour Party
pending an investigation by the NEC – which hasn’t happened.

    1. While not wishing to engage in stereotyping, I will now use stereotypes to illustrate that areas of Yorkshire have a problem: The four Yorkshiremen, God’s own country, the ‘no nonsense Yorkshire man/woman’ that bloke advertising Yorkshire tea (ugh it’s weak) and Yorkshire vet, our Yorkshire farm help cement the deep social conservatism and thinking that there’s not a problem. It’s just not cricket.

      Takes cover.

      1. It is, indeed, stereotyping. I have seen these attitudes in certain sections of society when in Yorkshire. However, it is a microcosm of the entire country. I’ve seen social conservatism, prejudice and racial antipathy in operation in the West Midlands, Lancashire, London, the North of Ireland, and many parts of rural England. Azeem is right. It isn’t just a phenomenon of Yorkshire cricket. It is pretty endemic, and reaches much further than cricket.

  10. No comment section on article on the protest against the new Israeli Ambassador, here is my opinion…

Hotovely has for years been campaigning for the annexation of the entire West Bank and claims that it, along with present-day Israel, belongs to Jews alone.
All Israeli settlements are illegal under international law and constitute a war crime.
Hotovely was appointed Israel’s deputy foreign minister in 2015. She recently boasted at a conference in Jerusalem that, since taking up that post, she has transformed Israel’s foreign ministry into a bastion of the settler right, which is moving Israel towards annexation.
“All the territory that is west of the Jordan River can only be [held] by one nation: the Jewish people,” she said.
She has also said that the West Bank belongs to Israel alone and that there was “no Palestinian people recognized in the world.” https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/asa-winstanley/israels-next-uk-ambassador-settler-extremist
There you have it Hotovely is a supporter of grave war crimes under paragraph 6 of the Geneva conventions, yet Starmer is disgusted with people who protest against her polices.
You could not make this up.

    1. Hotovely is a dyed in the wool racist and this applies to all Zionists such as Starmer. With its Nation State Laws, Israel has declared itself to be a racist State, this is beyond dispute. Yet Starmer, to my knowledge has never been asked by anyone in the media why he supports such an obnoxious entity.

  11. Concerning Corbyns action – he DID instigate legal proceedings
when nasty insinuations regarding his wreath laying started
    but these were then withdrawn.

He was supposed to have remembered
ALL the memorial inscriptions that were nearby during his stay there
Given that all were in arabic (including the one to the terrorists who
murdered the athletes) – this would not have been possible.

I just hope this is more successful .. it is certainly more blatant ..

    1. I must correct something in this comment which is inaccurate.
“He was supposed to have remembered
ALL the memorial inscriptions that were nearby during his stay there
Given that all were in arabic (including the one to the terrorists who
      murdered the athletes)”
There were no memorial inscriptions to “the terrorists who murdered the athletes”.
The Munich Olympics massacre was carried out by members of the Black September group. Black September had split from the PLO following the attack by the Jordanian armed forces on the PLO in Jordan. This was when the PLO relocated to Tunis, where Israeli forces bombed their offices. The memorial in the Tunis cemetery was for those killed in that attack. Black September relocated to Europe (France/Germany/Holland etc.).
Of the eight Black September hijackers, five were killed in the firefight, Afif, Nazzal, Chic Thaa, Haid and Jawad, and they were buried in Libya.
The other three, Adnan Al-Gashey, Jamal Al-Gashey and Mohammed Sadafy, were subsequently exchanged by the German Government for a group of hostages. None of the three ended up being buried in Tunis.
The alleged Black September member who was buried in Tunis was, in fact, a member of the PLO, not Black September. He was called Salah Khalaf. His role in the PLO is not clear but he was certainly not one of the Munich hijackers.
So Mr. Corbyn had nothing he needed to remember or check up on.

      1. Unfortunately, it’s fully embedded across the board as ‘truth’ and you’ll never get an MSM journalist to question it. Starmer’s Labour have gone further, he said “anyone repeating the conspiracy theory that Israel provided medical care for injured Isis fighters would be expelled from the party”. They are openly denying proven facts so don’t expect truth or justice anytime soon.

      2. Goldbach
I said “memorial” because I thought that although the ones who murdered
the athletes were not buried in Tunis there was a memorial inscription there?

No matter -there was also criticism of him for BEING THERE when
flowers were laid for any alleged terrorist memorialised at the site even if the
        mini-ceremonies were in Arabic ..

I believe the site was originally constructed as a memorial to those hundreds
or thousands murdered by Falangists in the camps at Sabra and Shatila –
an atrocity which could have been prevented by the IDF.

Of course the wreath in the pictures was laid at the single memorial
(which was not at the main site) to the murdered Tunisians,. There were
pictures of that too but not – er- in the MSM.

      3. The main cemetery in Tunis is huge. The Palestinian Cemetery is a very small part of it which is constructed like a small walled garden but with graves rather than flowers. It was sectioned off the main part as a memorial to those killed by the Israeli strike, but also houses a few (I think it’s 3) other tombs of Palestinians who either died in Tunis or, as in the case of Salah Khalaf who was, I think, killed in Europe, had taken up residence in Tunis. In the picture, the delegation is facing the memorial to those killed by the strike – it’s just a small plaque.
A young female reporter, from either Canada or the US, went to the site and did a very thorough video report on it shortly after the furore over the wreath incident.
It was unfortunate for Mr Corbyn that he couldn’t rebut the accusations immediately.
Tony Benn would have just looked at his diary and given chapter and verse.

  12. JC has a substantial fighting fund which gives him the power to pursue cases on our behalf, what’s not to like

    1. Thanks Doug….for reminding in a kind way that I should cut out the jousting or replys that are basically spoiling the comments section….when I take up the argument against those that criticise me.I do get it,and need to challange my energys elswhere in more deserving topics.appologies to everyone on Squawkbox.

      1. Methinks
We pretty much keep each other straight enough on here, even our resident Pantomime villain

  13. Regarding comments above concerning Corbyn’s apparent
lack of “fight” in the way he regarded his enemies..

There was of course his inherent “niceness” and
pacific way of thinking .. However far more significant
was the fact of him being Leader of the Labour Party and his
need to tackle the Tories day after day. He did not want
any issues to distract from that .. It should have been
OTHERS who did the fighting for him ..Having said all that
    – hind sight is a wonderful thing ..

But NOW he is nor constricted by being the Leader of the
Labour Party or – ironically – by being subject to the Labour
    Party whip.
