Watch: LabourLeft/Socialist Telly special discusses appalling employment practices by corporates – and Labour

Around 1,500 British Gas workers sacked for refusing to bow to pressure to accept reduced terms and conditions – and Labour is in no position to oppose as it lays off another 90 staff

Watch an outstanding (and interactive) new Socialist Telly programme with former ‘LOTO’ staffer Phil Bevin and footage of the good, bad and ugly of the Labour party and its leadership:

  1. Has anyone from New New Labour condemned British Gases appalling behaviour?

    1. Keir Starmer has expressed solidarity with British Gas workers who have today started a national five-day strike over “attempts to bully workers into accepting cuts to their pay and terms and conditions”……
……The Labour leader, who earlier this year adopted the policy of outlawing ‘fire and rehire’ practices, today tweeted: “Solidarity with British Gas workers – striking against attempts to fire and rehire them on worse terms….
[Keir] told TUC Congress 2020: “’Fire and re-hire’ tactics are wrong. They’re against British values. They should also be illegal. These tactics punish good employers, hit working people hard and harm our economy.
The Labour leader added: “I’m calling on the government to act now. Introduce legislation to end fire and re-hire, and give working people the security they need. If you do that, you will have our full support.”
“They’re defending themselves and taking a stand against a practice that should be illegal. The company must get back to the table and resolve this through negotiation.”

      1. That’s what the focus group said he should say.
If he meant it, he would have said this weeks ago.
Fail again. Steve Hill, “centrist” troll.

      2. Frank – He did you numpty, at the 2020 TUC Congress.

“[Keir] told TUC Congress 2020: “’Fire and re-hire’ tactics are wrong. They’re against British values. They should also be illegal. These tactics punish good employers, hit working people hard and harm our

      3. But he only mentions British gas today.
        Now fuck off troll boy.
He’s never going to give you a blow job.

      4. frank – Oh dear, it really isn’t your day. The article that I linked to was published at the beginning of January.

      1. I was on the ground in Reigate and OXted and a councillor and activist in the twenty years I lived in the East Surrey constituency we never heard of him Starmer or family. And other than those councillors who did know him at Reigate independent posh boys school they were mainly tory boys. This man starmer is a substantial fake and it costs real money and influence to come from nowhere in the Labour party and become leader in five years of being elected a mp.Sir keir Rodney Starmer was invisible in the Labour party in oxted and Surrey….figure that out sombodys a liar and its not me or the East Surrey constituency members…WE DID NOT KNOW HIM the knight??

  2. Yep, he is a dick.
The only factual thing you have ever said, Troll boy.

      1. We’ll have to wait for the policy review later this year for that, at the moment there is not much that’s different from Corbyn’s manifesto.

  3. Red Tories dont believe in anything other than snouts in the trough
No matter who you vote for the same fuckers get in
Which is why the country was screaming out for JC in 2015

    SteveH
Give us a policy that defines Temporary Embarrassment and distinguishes him from JC

  4. You really are wasting your time engaging with little stevie, all you are doing is feeding the troll, and that in the end is all he is. He is trolling this site and you encourage him by engaging with him.

      1. Unions are evil is bread and butter to MSM and toilet papers propaganda machine
Temporary Embarrassment should say he will outlaw fire and rehire but he won’t because he is in the process of destroying the Labour party
So if its a coup for Labour party leadership you want, we need to know where Unite candidates stand, they can declare after May elections
        RaV

      2. Doug – “[Starmer] should say he will outlaw fire and rehire but he won’t because he is in the process of destroying the Labour party”

        That’s exactly what he’s done

      3. Doug – Maybe you missed this?

Keir Starmer argued in September last year against fire and rehire practices, describing them as “against British values”. He told the TUC congress that the tactics should be illegal and called on the government to act to end their use.

Using an opposition day earlier this year, Labour passed a motion to outlaw fire and rehire. The Prime Minister ignored the motion and instructed Conservative MPs to abstain on the vote.

  5. How about a bit of transparency regarding which energy companies labour MPs get their publicly funded power from for their offices?

I’ve never seen British Gas as the cheapest option on price comparison websites. And a lot of the other companies are non-UK companies…
