Spain sees C19 cases almost double as lockdown easing continues

Spain has seen a near-doubling in its cases of coronavirus in just two days. After a long reduction followed by a low-level plateau, the country saw daily new cases rise from 167 on Monday to 249 on Tuesday and 314 yesterday.

The country’s death figures lag by a couple of weeks or so, but the most recent figures also showed a sharp rise – from 50 on 23 May to 74 on the 24th and 280 on the 26th.

The number daily new cases is still far lower than in the UK, where Boris Johnson continues to press ahead with the relaxation of lockdown measures in spite of the stubbornly-high pool of infection, but the early upward trend in Spain is a warning to UK citizens of what may result from its government’s haste.

  1. The pressure comes from business who fear the loss of profit. Parents it seems don’t have the same clout as the return to School plan crashes. But Schools haven’t had billions of public money gifted to them to ease their problem. The Tory Party will always back profit over people.

  2. More total bollocks. These are insignificant figures in terms of the population – well within the range of error and normal variation. And , given current level of knowledge, linking it to lock-up is illiterate balloney. With this level of statistical innumeracy and illiteracy about causlity, Ferguson’s ICL team might offer a job.

Spain actually has a current level of ‘cases’ per million which is less than two days ago. And – of course – anyone with something resembling eyes and a brain between the ears knows that the basis of reporting ‘infections’ and ‘cases’ is as trustworthy as a Johnson statement.

Why is SB so keen on bigging up Tory psy-ops and relishing establishment social control – to the extent of actually publishing innumerate Tarot-pack rubbish?

      1. I see you still struggle with numbers and counting, Toffer.

The link of the number of infections with the start of Lock-Up isn’t confirmed by any known data.

When SB starts publishing a balanced picture, I’ll give credit. Until then, the only response is : WTF????

      2. Poor old The Toffee, still struggling to count! Can’t you help RH? I’m sure that’s your instinct and you have such a superior intellect you could help many less advantaged. Instead of slagging them off for stupidity. Make you feel better – maybe?

      3. ”I see you still struggle with numbers and counting, Toffer.”

Oh, please don’t flatter yerself into thinking I was merely disagreeing with the bullshit you’ve been spouting, dicky. I barely even bothered with it.

So get yer narcissistic head outta yer conceited arse, moron. Your own sense of self-importance has led you to convince yourself (And nobody else) I was debating something with you, even after both myself & McNiven had done you the courtesy of pointing out your sheer buffoonery.

      4. You and others have done well in trying to combat the loonies but they are intent on swamping the site and if they can, squeezing out sane posters. I think that’s what they did to Off-Guardian. The best way of dealing with them is to ignore them, don’t reply because that is what they want so they can go On and On and bore us all to death. They are also relentlessly insulting and personally abusive which is their way of provoking replies.

    1. That’s illiterate baloney, not balloney. “illiteracy about causlity” we’ll let pass.
If you’re going to accuse people of illiteracy…

      1. Of course, your nit-picking is absolutely correct about typos etc. (BTW mis-spelling isn’t ‘illiteracy’. But let that pass.

But it misses the substantive argument. Thanks for the confirmation that there is no counter.

  3. WATCH: Perspectives on the Pandemic #9
The “Undercover nurse” gives her first hand account of neglect, mismanagement and possible corruption in the treatment of “Covid patients” at Elmhurst Hospital

    https://off-guardian.org/2020/06/11/watch-perspectives-on-the-pandemic-9/

Erin Marie Olszewski is a Nurse-turned-investigative journalist, who has spent the last few months on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, on the inside in two radically different settings. Two hospitals. One private, the other public. One in Florida, the other in New York.

And not just any New York public hospital, but the “epicenter of the epicenter” itself, the infamous Elmhurst in Donald Trump’s Queens. As a result of these diametrically opposed experiences, she has the ultimate “perspective on the pandemic”. She has been where there have been the most deaths attributed to Covid-19 and where there have been the least.

Her story perfectly aligns with that of other doctors and nurses who have come forward or posted to social media, and confirms some of the worst aspects of the research OffGuardian (and other alt-media outlets) have been doing. Including the over-use of ventilators in such a way that causes avoidable deaths, the forced use of DNRs, financial incentives for Covid diagnoses and in general a top-down, non-scientific approach which spread fear and made the situation incalculably worse.

    1. Why does Off-Guardian censor posters that don’t agree with their stance? Does S-Box do that? I don’t think so!

      1. If you read the poster columns in the Off-Guardian, you will frequently find very antagonist comments from posters with names such as Crispy or Louis Project who attack numerous articles on Off-Guardian, yet, are permitted to express their opinions. Only recently SB had a poster who continually posted very antagonist views, yet, eventually, many many posters( including a number who support the Covid-19 narrative) complained about him and eventually he was censored. Or another poster was warned by SB if he continued with his racist views he would censored. So think again !!

      2. Bubber, you and RH both disagree with SB and you haven’t been censored, have you?
I’ve had the odd comment deleted, but Steve Walker has an absolute right to do that on his own blog.
One commenter marked as ‘spam’ (he clearly was spamming, whatever the reason) and one warned for overuse of the term “Zionist” isn’t much in the 3 years I’ve been reading the blog.
I don’t follow Off-Guardian so won’t comment, except to say that I believe owners of sites with ‘comments’ sections can potentially be held legally responsible for ‘publishing’ the illegal content of commenters.

      3. I fully support S-Box and don’t know why you think otherwise. (I also donate to them monthly). Interested to know what you are talking about. If you’ve never seen Off-Guardian how do you know what is being discussed here?

      4. Owners of sites can potentially be sued for their comments? Stump up £10,000 High Court fee first and then crowd fund the £100,000 + lawyers fees to get it going. If the Court takes the bait you’ll need probably £250,000 for solicitors and barristers before you are done. Not that many firms would take on such a risky action. Things have changed dramatically over the past decade, didn’t you notice?

      5. Paul, your comments appear to be directed at me but your reason mystifies me.
You seem to have the wrong end of the stick – far from threatening Skwawkbox with a lawsuit I was explaining to Bubber that left wing blogs can be subject to such attacks from wealthy right wingers or the DPP, and that bloggers have the right to protect themselves from anyone making actionable statements when commenting on their blogs.

      6. Yes some confusion between us! I’m very opposed to the Alt Rightists represented by RH and the fellow you call Bubber (?). I’m not allowed to post on Off-Guardian (posts just disappear) but from what I know SB is an honest platform for diverse views.

    2. Ahhh yes Florida and New York , land of the crank and of course Trump . What a great place to glean information from , ,, the land of cranks and conspiracy theorists .

  4. This is misleading, in Spain they find new cases because they are doing more tests. But most of these “new cases” are from individuals that have recovered from Covid-19. Hence no active cases.

    1. Is there evidence that ‘most of the new cases are from people who have already recovered’? Are you able to point to it as would be expected if it was a serious point?

      1. The new cases don’t appear to be resulting in an increase in deaths and the number of recoveries in Spain are rising everyday, so they outset the new cases. I don’t have evidence as in studies it is just looking at the numbers put out there day by day and talking with family and friends in the country.
The numbers of test are increasing per million, but the deaths per million appear to be stable and the recoveries are increasing.
Plus, Spain is still descalating and it is doing so area by area depending on rates of recovery. So I believe it is misleading to say that the descalation is causing an increase in cases of Covi-19.

      2. You are citing friends and family in Spain? Isn’t that is what you would call anecdotal evidence? How many friends and family? None are of a contrary view?

      3. Perhaps she’ll correct me if I’m wrong, but by using quotation marks on “new cases” didn’t Maria intend to imply that those are recovered, non-infectious people who still test positive?

If so those “cases” are only an issue for the statisticians surely, and not a danger to anyone unless CV can cause further episodes of illness, as I believe can happen with malaria sufferers?

  5. @Paul, it isn’t serious to quote number without analysing the data, and this is what the Skwawbox is doing in this instance in my opinion, that you are very entitled to disagree with.
If you look at wordometers’ site the number of cases in Spain for the last 2 days has increased by 314 cases. However, the number of deaths and seriously critical has remained the same.
You would also notice that the number of test per million is increasing week by week, so it stand to reason that they will find more cases among carers, nurses, doctors, transport workers etc that are now been tested as part of a routine, for over a month now.
A few friends and family working in hospitals had the Covid-19 without realising it, they found antibodies once they finally got tested several weeks ago.
The Spanish media is not talking about easing of quarentine measures resulting in an increase in the number of infections and deaths related to Covid-19. You would think that if that was the case, they would be all over with it, wouldn’t they? It isn’t like the MSM likes socialist governments all the sudden, isn’t it?

    1. I read that an anti Capitalist Group has left Podemos in protest at the way the virus is handled in the interests of business and not people ? It’s not all milk and honey over in Spain is it?

      1. No, it isn’t milk and honey in Spain. But just because business considerations are put before people, it doesn’t mean it entitled us to play and manipulate the data and present figures without analysing them with the whole purpose of spreading panic among the general population.
Covid-19 exist and it kills people with pre-existing medical conditions and those with high viral loads, so we need to protect ourselves. However, to spread panic among the general population is unnecessary. In the winter of 2016-2017 the UK has an excess winter deaths of over 50K, why this wasn’t reported them? Why the no yet 40K for Covid-19 are attracting so many headlines? Could it be because in 2016-2017 the economy across the EU, Western world was still rising? Could it be that now were are all over Covid-19 because the economy was already taking a down turn? How much profit are companies that are supplying the NHS are making from Covid-19? Who is most likely to benefit from the Covid-19? Would teachers be demoted to class room assistance now that an experience teacher can teach using Zoom to several hundreds/thousand of pupils?
These are questions that need, in my opinion, to be asked and we are not doing so, because we are focusing in building up “the pandemic” rather than seriously dealing with the data.
Why did Ferguson and Cummings didn’t follow quarantine measures? Could it be because they knew they weren’t at risk? That Covid-19 isn’t different from a bad winter?

      2. In Ferguson’s case it was love I believe that caused him to break the rules! The more interesting question is who spotted his Mistress on that particular afternoon and gave the story to the Telegraph? Was he under surveillance I wonder? As for Cummings it was such a brazen and blatant self volunteered breach that it seems quite likely It was all very deliberate to further weaken the lockdown. It’s a game he’s been playing since February. Johnson is right beside him saying the distancing rule will ‘soon’ be one metre which most people will interpret as no distance at all and why not do it now? He also made a point yesterday that nobody will ask who your friendly household that you share a bubble with is – which again means you can make it up as you go along, just like the Govt. Why is he so afraid of coming out and saying Lockdown is over? Does he fear he’ll be blamed for a 2nd wave? Would you advocate a complete end to Lockdown?
Can we assume from you what don’t say that Podemos has lost its Left Wing?

      3. Now, Paul – when you try to excuse Ferguson and Cummings, you are batting on a treacle-sticky wicket.

Obviously, neither of them believed in the Lock-Up. Neither did the hand-picked SAGE group – it was a political decision that snowballed out of control.

… and the answer to your question to Maria “Would you advocate a complete end to Lockdown?”

Is that’s the way the evidence points. It was always a daft idea, but Boris and his Spivs marched the majority of the population to the top of Scary Hill – and now they’re not sure about how to march them back down again.

The only winner in all this fictitious crap is the Psy-Op brigade.

      4. The Psy-Op brigade are behind the manufactured panic? What’s their aim? How do you know this? At last we seem to be getting somewhere but we need a little more detail please. And the Chinese and Russians are right behind them? Weird Eh? (You’re not mixing them up with Sci-Fi are you?)

  6. Mc Bullshit, it appears that you once again you have extrapolated points that I didn’t make. If you had read my response to another poster properly, instead of your usual tactic of misrepresentation, you might have noticed that I have gave two examples, one of someone who as many many posters ( including those who support the Covid -19 narrative and those that take the opposite view) complained about and indeed SB censored them. The other concerned some one who was posting racist comments and was warned by SB to desist or be censored. He is indeed well within his rights to censor note I did complain about that.

    1. You complained about the racist being censored on SB? -oh, you did!
How do you know an anti Covid 19 poster was censored on SB? Was it you? It’s a nasty slur if untrue. I don’t believe it tbh. Details please!

      1. I said if he continued with his racist remarks he would be censored. Note the phrase WOULD BE CENSORED. NOT WAS CENSORED.

It happened not that long ago he/she/ they were making racist slurs against the JVL. SB said if the continue THEY WOULD BE CENSORED.

It appears you are imagining what I said/ are incapable of reading comprehension or employing the MSM tactic of misrepresentation.

      2. It’s probably I’m incapable of ‘reading comprehension’ (whatever that is!). I didn’t have the luxury of a good education like you jolly clever ones who can see there is no virus and the whole thing is designed to panic us – but tbh I still don’t get WHY? I was hoping you would explain that in suitably simple language but for some reason you are very reluctant to do that.

      3. In addition, have a look at the original post. It might help you rather than inventing things/ imagining things.

  7. Just to put a tin lid on Ferguson’s wild Lock-Up justifications in relation to mortality – an attempt to double down on past critical errors of prediction :

    1. From Profesor Simon Wood (Bristol) :

“…,the currently most reliable data strongly suggest that the decline in infections in England and Wales began before lockdown. Furthermore, such a scenario would be consistent with the infection profile in Sweden, which began its decline in fatal infections shortly after the UK, but did so on the basis of measures well short of lockdown.

    and

2.From Professor Carl Heneghan (Oxford) :

““The peak of deaths occurred on April 8th, and if you understand that then you work backwards to find the peak of infections.

That would be 21 days before then, right before the point of lockdown”

  8. There is little point in arguing about the movement of figures, up or down. When the 2nd wave comes it will hit us like a sledgehammer. Who says so? Well, the records from the 1918 flu pandemic say so. Everyone was caught by surprise, and the 1918 records are what the scientists use to predict the progress of the virus. The virus is smart, far smarter than the combined grey matter of Bozo and his sidekick ‘old tortoise neck’. When it returns (hopefully it won’t) it will hit us in a different way, from a different angle, and take different types of people. We won’t even hear it creep up on us. Did I say the virus is smart?

    1. Have you any evidence as in the evidence so far from the NHS and many other local health authorities in different countries or the data a number of countries as to the actual percentages of fatalities which support that view ?

  9. Paul, it seems your fall back position is trying to misrepresent. Instead of making comments about what you think I said read the post in its entirety and you won’t be conjuring views like Ferguson and Imperial did for estimates for this new ” pandemic “.

    1. But my ‘conjuring of views’ is my opinion, surely you understand that? It’s what we all do, even you!

      1. ” But my ‘ conjuring of views’ is an opinion..” It appears you are confused as to an opinion based either on fact or an opinion based on what the person you are opinionating actually said or has written. In the first instance a fact which is not correct is called an incorrect fact. In the second instance to say someone has said something or written something when they haven’t is called in polite circles misrepresentation. To quote someone out of context to the whole of the article they have either said or written is called selective quoting. Both of the tactics are employed by the MSM and try to create an opinion not based on what the reality is, just as you have tried to do and Professor Ferguson plus Imperial tried to do by giving estimates which were not formulated in reality, as many of his critics in the medical plus software fraternity pointed out plus of course he has a proven track record of being wrong as you are of establishing a record of misrepresentation of posts!

      2. “Estimates not based on reality” are simply fantasy or at the best, guesses. So where do they enter the debate? Do you mean Ferguson? Is he mad or bad?

      3. Very interesting I’m sure but in anticipation you are about to detail all of Ferguson’s proven errors I think this correspondence should cease. I was always warned about suffering pricks too gladly.

  10. Oh dear, you up to your old tactic of extrapolation “ ..do you mean Ferguson. Is he mad or bad” . Let his track record speak for itself.

So the real scandal is: Why did anyone ever listen to this guy?”

    John Fund writes:

[Imperial College epidemiologist Neil] Ferguson was behind the disputed research that sparked the mass culling of eleven million sheep and cattle during the 2001 outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. He also predicted that up to 150,000 people could die. There were fewer than 200 deaths. . . .

In 2002, Ferguson predicted that up to 50,000 people would likely die from exposure to BSE (mad cow disease) in beef. In the U.K., there were only 177 deaths from BSE.

In 2005, Ferguson predicted that up to 150 million people could be killed from bird flu. In the end, only 282 people died worldwide from the disease between 2003 and 2009.

In 2009, a government estimate, based on Ferguson’s advice, said a “reasonable worst-case scenario” was that the swine flu would lead to 65,000 British deaths. In the end, swine flu killed 457 people in the U.K.

Last March, Ferguson admitted that his Imperial College model of the COVID-19 disease was based on undocumented, 13-year-old computer code that was intended to be used for a feared influenza pandemic, rather than a coronavirus. Ferguson declined to release his original code so other scientists could check his results. He only released a heavily revised set of code last week, after a six-week delay.

So the real scandal is: Why did anyone ever listen to this guy?

  11. Paul, to misquote the evil old witch, when all you have to offer is insults, you have no arguments. Fits you perfectly Paul!
