Right-wing MPs show depth of delusion – by attacking Corbyn for prioritising planet

Few MPs at last night’s ‘PLP’ meeting outraged that Corbyn spent more time on environment than on Brexit

Comment

A handful of Labour MPs gave away just how deeply they are embedded in their own ‘bubble’ last night when they reacted with outrage to the fact that Jeremy Corbyn prioritised climate change during Monday’s meeting of the ‘PLP’ – the parliamentary Labour party.

Politics Home’s Kevin Schofield tweeted the news, apparently without irony and without comment on the appropriateness of such a response.

But others didn’t miss the obvious: that climate change is a far more important topic than the Brexit obsession of the ‘Westminster bubble’.

One Labour figure retorted:

There are no MPs on a dead planet.

Others – hundreds of them – responded on social media:

The exaggeration of the anonymous MP’s ‘disbelief in the room’ also speaks volumes of the inflated sense of importance on the part of the small but vocal band of MPs who never miss an opportunity to attack Corbyn and his team.

SKWAWKBOX view:

Could anything more clearly demonstrate the wilful delusion – and monomaniacal focus on undermining their party’s leadership – of the thankfully dwindling cadre of hardcore right-wingers in the Labour Party?

  1. “Could anything more clearly demonstrate the wilful delusion – and monomaniacal focus on undermining their party’s leadership – of the thankfully dwindling cadre of hardcore right-wingers in the Labour Party?”

Only Skwawkbox’s very own remain fanatics RH and SteveH.

      1. What you ‘see’ suggests a desperate need for an optician, lundenial. 🙂

    1. Yes, and the strategy has been signed off and rolled out. The members (hi, remember us!?!) are busy putting it into action. Time won’t stand still between now and 23rd, there will be the day after, the newspapers of this week are just next weeks recycling. Our leaders need to see the bigger picture, and what direction we are moving in WHATEVER the EU election outcome.

As JC himself has clearly stated the UK needs to co-operate with the rest of Europe on climate change so I would have thought that the leadership would have shown more enthusiasm for winning the fast approaching EU elections so that we can exert the maximum influence whilst we are still in the EU.

You can have an iMax sized big picture but without influence to implement it this vision will remain nothing more than a vision.

      2. I think we should be realistic. May will try and prevent the election from happening, if it does happen then to prevent the MEPs from taking their seats. The only realistic option is for a soft Brexit with close cooperation with the EU on pollution, carbon emissions, etc. As one who is acticely part of the Labour EU election campaign, I would strongly suggest there is a good chance of Labour winning if our members and supporters get out there and start taking part in the campaign. A huge number of potential Brexit party supporters are under the impression that voting Farage means he will take over negotiations and lead to a WTO rules withdrawal. Once they understand the reality, and that he is an opportunist who has never taken part in any part of govt even when a MEP, when he could, and that he has threatened to “put on khaki and pick up a gun” if his view doesn’t prevail, then they come around pretty quick. This is based on hours of conversations, changing one voter at a time. My advice – to all – is the same as Labours today. The biggest threat we are facing this week is a resurgent far right, and everyone of us must get out there and start turning the tide. Third hand reports of the plp meeting, and the amount of time Corbyn did or didn’t discuss these elections is another success for the chicken coopers. Dont fall for it.

      3. Sorry to disappoint you Florence. “A huge number of potential Brexit party supporters are under the impression that voting Farage means he will take over negotiations and lead to a WTO rules withdrawal.” Is nonsense. Brexit supporters know MEPs are a waste of space and can’t negotiate anything as they don’t have legislative powers (That’s one of their reasons for voting for Brexit in the first place. You are just perpetuating the slur that they’re all thick.). People are voting for the Brexit party in the European elections in the hope they will disrupt proceedings because Westminster is dragging its feet. This is their chance to be heard.

      4. SteveH…you’re mad! The European Parliament is toothless, impotent, it can’t legislate and there are more lobbyists in Brussels than Washington.
I’ll tell you what will happen, there’ll be photoshoots with Greta Thunberg while behind the scenes green corporates will be fighting over subsidies. So while the man in the street pays dearly for handouts to green start ups and for schemes like carbon capture, the use of oil will continue unabated until every last drop is used up.
And there will be no action on consumer Capitalism, certainly not from the EU.

Perhaps if yo had familiarised yourself better with the workings of the various EU institutions you would appreciate the significance of the fast approaching EU elections.

The vote share of the various EU political groupings will to a large extent determine whether we end up with another RW President of the EU Commission or the LW candidate (who’s standing on a manifesto that reads like it could have been written by Corbyn) gets appointed.

It is worth noting that the PES candidate for the job is currently the front-runner in a series of debates/hustings that are being held at universities throughout the EU in conjunction with the Financial Times

    2. Steven, I’m not suggesting that Brexit party supporters are thick but they have been targeted with misinformation and propaganda. Farage is very good at that. It’s not just Brexit supporters that think this, but they are the ones we try and help understand their vote is important.

Talking is a great way of really engaging with people and they are actually very worried- on all sides – about the fragility of democracy.

  2. And let us not forget Labour’s nuclear mafia who successfully demanded that this statement be deleted from the final version of Labour’s general election manifesto:

‘any prime minister should be extremely cautious about ordering the use of weapons of mass destruction which would result in the indiscriminate killing of millions of innocent civilians’

    Sick, sick people.

(The British General Election of 2017 by Philip Cowley and Denis Kavanagh, p182/3).

  3. Can anyone tell me when Jezzer is being canonised by the Pope? That should stop all this discussion, debate and disagreement nonsense. Back to the good old Blair years when Daddy knew best and those smelly and disagreeable Party members were told what to think.

    1. Oh DO shut the fuck up, you monumental bore.

Corbyn’s leader because he’s popular and has the backing of party members…You’re a risible little nobody in the grand scheme of things, but you still continue with your incessant shithousery because you can’t have it your way. So now you make all sorts of sneering & sarcastic remarks about the TWICE democratically elected leader (Or do you demand another vote on THAT, too?) who intends to honour a democrtically arrived at result.

Tough. Fucking. Titty. We’re leaving the EU. Deal with it and try concentrating on the matters that will affect ordinary people both now and long after we’re out.

      1. “We’re leaving the EU”.– Time will tell, but for now we are still in.

      2. Great post Toffee.

The comment you replied to really highlights RH’s true colours too, so kudos RH.

“We’re leaving the EU”.– Time will tell, but for now we are still in.

So how about you STFU About something that hasn’t happened yet as opposed to things that ARE happening right the fuck now?

      4. The Toffee (597) 14/05/2019 at 6:26 pm

What on earth are you ranting on about, can you please try to be a little clearer in future?

      5. It’s self-explanatory.

But evidently it’s a massive burden for an imbecilic, europhilic monomaniac to understand.

      6. The Toffee (597) 14/05/2019 at 7:27 pm · ·

        It’s self-explanatory.”

Self evidently it isn’t, what specifically are you referring to when you say “something that hasn’t happened yet” and also ” things that ARE happening right the fuck now”. What are these ‘things”?

But evidently it’s a massive burden for an imbecilic, europhilic monomaniac to understand.”
It would be far more impressive if you didn’t feel the need to distract from the inadequacies of your ‘argument’ by trying to impress us all with your ‘knowledge’ of profanities.

      7. You really are a bit slow, aren’t you, Toffee?

“now you make all sorts of sneering & sarcastic remarks about the TWICE democratically elected leader ”

… the piss-take was not aimed at Corbyn, but at twats who treat Party leaders as founts of eternal wisdom and can’t deal with alternative viewpoints – or, indeed, anything outside their own little imagined world (if the cap fits … ).

For the record, I voted for Corbyn.

… and opposing Brexit is ” concentrating on the matters that will affect ordinary people” – the ERG/Lexiteer alliance plan will screw them. Big time.

        Keep taking the tablets.

      8. You really are a bit slow, aren’t you, Toffee?

Says the gormless helmet what gets his arse handed to timself several times a day – if not several times per post.

Even the very first post on this thread sums up what you’re about. Every Thomas, Richard & Harold’s got the measure of you. So if I’m slow, you must have your feet nailed to the fucking floor, mister.

It’s evident you’re no Corbyn supporter. We only have your word you voted Corbyn but judging from the tone of your posts it’s reasonable to conclude that:

A/ You’re a liar as well as a hypocrite and troll.

B/ Your single-issue view is undeniably intertwined with watson’s & starmer’s, and therefore undermine (or try to) Corbyn’s and the membership that’s continually grown under Corbyn’s leadership.

C/ You post on fuck-all else that is affecting people right now, or has been for years – austerity, for example – just like the lib dems, trying to hide their dirty (open) secret; and you continually openly sneer at the working class. The same working class what makes up the bulk of the party membership – the same membership you then hypocritically use to back up your absurd claim to a second referendum.

        And
D/ well, nobody needs a ‘D’* because A,B&C are evidence enough of your shithousery.

*Apart from the ‘D’ you ought to have on your pointy hat while you’re sat there in the corner.

Me, slow? I have seen mountain ranges develop quicker than you, sunshine.

      9. The Toffee (597) 15/05/2019 at 11:25 am

“We only have your word you voted Corbyn but judging from the tone of your posts it’s reasonable to conclude that”

….. and we only have your ‘assurances’ that you’re not one of Jacob’s merry little band of followers.

      10. Well seeing as I post on other issues like anti-austerity, the NHS, WCA’s and the DWP, education/utilities/rail being flogged off, foreign affairs OTHER than brexit…

Y’know, the things tha affect day-to-day life, right NOW and in future? The things your precious eu has done fuck-all about?

If I’ve got you and your alter ego well sussed, whopper, I’m sure everyone else has.

As do many others on here, including myself. You’re welcome to try and prove otherwise.

      12. “You’re a liar as well as a hypocrite and troll”

“You post on fuck-all else that is affecting people”

” therefore undermine (or try to) Corbyn’s and the membership” (You mean the membership that is overwhelmingly in favour of remaining in the EU? Or the one in your head?). You must have had trouble transferring unquestioning allegiance from Blair to Corbyn.

I must apologize to you, Kevin. The fantastic out-of-control imaginings and fits of rage are so fabulous (in the root sense) that it’s hard to resist pushing your buttons for cheap amusement.

But I admit it’s not a good look to keep taking sweets from an adolescent in a tantrum and it’s too easy a win.

  4. Desperately sad pathetic little people those RW MPs in the PLP . Anything, just ANYTHING to have a go at Corbyn , if it ain’t A.S its Brexit , or it’s the books he recommends or his allotment or or or even his effin beard …..

Weasel Screeching is just one of the shrill little twerps who haven’t yet reached anything like political maturity and still reminds me of the foot stamping petulant child that wants it’s own way or it’s hold its breath till …. whenever .
Just when some sort of discipline and unity is required in the face of Fascist/Racist Farrage and the EU elections and still they come out with this shit ..
ffs how I wish we had the full power of Reselection and not some castrated version of it ..

I bet these bastard hypocrites wouldn’t turn down a photo opportunity with Greta Thundberg for one second .And Blair the twat is still sniping from the side lines attacking the party , how he’s still in it I never know

    1. What I would like to know is if the whips are going to get Wes in for a chat? We need to see some discipline, put the fear of god into them. There must be some skeletons in cupboards somewhere? Discipline is lacking and I for one think it’s time to dish out some pre-emptive strikes against this rabble. Make them sweat!

  5. Ever seen Soylent Green? These are the politicians that will deliver that nightmare.

  6. On Thursday in Yorkshire Rebecca Long-Bailey is expected to announce Labour will bring the national grid into public ownership in a bid to tackle climate change while making heat and electricity a “human right”.

RLB will explain that this will allow profits from the grid to fund further green infrastructure instead of shareholders
