W Mids councillor suspended by Labour ahead of ‘hate-crime’ trial

Sandwell councillor Bob Piper

Sandwell councillor Bob Piper, who the SKWAWKBOX revealed last month was to be charged with under hate-crime legislation – has been suspended by the Labour Party ahead of his court appearance later this month.

Mr Piper was contacted by the SKWAWKBOX about his suspension, but declined to comment except to thank locals who have supported him:

I have been overwhelmed by the messages and offers of support from Party members, council colleagues, my branch and people in the Ward.

Piper’s case on two counts of racially-aggravated harassment is set to be heard 16 January.

  1. Sorry I don’t understand this. So he was calling people in “For Britain” (who were sat at a table with a friend) Islamophobic racists and Nazis (that’s why he did the Nazi salute towards them- which I don’t think is a hate crime in and of itself,) yet HE has been charged with a hate crime? Have I understood this correctly? WHy and how? The people in For Britain, that he was accusing of being islamophobic racists, (or people at the table) were they Jewish? because that’s the only way I can make sense of this being in any way a police matter/possible hate crime? And this is being used to fight factional battles within Labour, without considering how this will look towards the public – simply someone in Labour doing Nazi salute, and now being (falsely it seems) perceived as antisemitic.

If I’m reading this right (and Jewish people are not being harassed and called Nazi,) then this is ridiculous, and what a waste of time and money. Don’t the police have anything better to do? Yes, they do. And anyone playing fractional battles like this will come to regret when the same is used against them.

    1. ** If I’m reading this right (and Jewish people are not being harassed and called Nazi – *****OR having the Nazi salute done towards them in a threatening way)

  3. I wonder when action is going to be taken against Tom Watson for advocating nuclear war.
