Breaking: police officer and others stabbed on Manchester tram platform

Police are reporting that a British Transport Police officer has been stabbed on a tram platform at Manchester’s Victoria station – one of three people believed to have been injured.

The man was reported to be armed with a long kitchen-knife type blade and triggered panic among new-year revellers.

A man has been detained. The severity of the injuries is not known. Police have not announced whether they consider it a terrorism incident.
